Treating Andamooka matrix: true success: my best results yet!

  • Hi everyone, I hope you’re all well! In this video I’ll finally get the results I’ve been after. As someone who likes to dabble/experiment my way through learning I have no regrets about my attempts so far, as what I learned has helped me understand why things did or didn’t work. So this is my learning curve and I hope it will help show others like me who always question “but why?”. Now I need to treat all the rest of my matrix again, but will be worth it. I hope you enjoy, thanks for your time. 🤪👍 theopalmills.com.au / the-opal-mills-1102504... theopalmills @gmail.com

    Beautiful colours ...and a fantastic balance of patterns in the oval cabs ....so much gorgeous turquoise/teal 😁

    The one at 24:00 is incredible. I usually am not a big fan of broader flashes across the whole stone, but that one, and the one after it, are incredible. And the offcut is superb.

    Wow , nicely done Phil ,they came out on another level , the colours are so strong now ,Beautiful, the off cut @ 25.00 looks like it has taken the treatment even better , does it make a difference treating them with a rough surface rather than polished ? Great video

    • @theopalmills
      @theopalmills  3 года назад +3

      No difference, only one piece was rough the rest has one side faced and polished, it’s best to bring to a polish before treating as the treatment may be shallow. 🤪👍

    I like the improvement. Ever try sugar soak for three days followed by three days acid should get a very good penetration .

    • @theopalmills
      @theopalmills  3 года назад

      Ty, yes 3 days soaking in sugar but did acid in two lots, so this second batch got an extra 3 day sugar soak, then 2 days hot acid. 🤪👍

    do you use white sugar , brown sugar or raw sugar or doesn't matter that sort

    • @theopalmills
      @theopalmills  3 года назад +1

      I used white sugar, but I don’t think it matters, though the solution I’m trying atm has a smaller size carbon particle and hopefully results in a better penetration.

    I've seen heated acid take a week to work before. Normally it's what 3+ days? Have you ever watch pulitzer do treatments?

    • @theopalmills
      @theopalmills  3 года назад +3

      Yes I’ve watched Pulitzer ‘Don’ and learned what I could but limited in the documentary style knowledge I was needing, so trial and error method was applied, and I think I’ve got it mostly right in the end. I’m settling on 2-3day sugar soak and 2-3days hot acid bath. 🤪👍

    You do realize when you finish cutting those the black will come out. You have to finish them and then treat them.

    • @theopalmills
      @theopalmills  3 года назад +1

      Correct, all except one has been faced and polished on one side, I may tidy up the back if I want to leave them open in a setting. 🤪👍

    Don't let anybody tell you any different rather those are going for good price in the USA and there's nothing wrong with treating a opal it's still the original opal the original design in the original colors all you did is enhance it a little bit by using some chemistry 🧪⚗️ there's nothing wrong with that it's not like it's fake it's still as real as when you pulled it out the ground I don't know why Justin and a lot of others talk a lot of crap about it plitzer does it to and sells it for good money 💰 nothing wrong with that.
