    I’m glad I’m not the only person who knew what this channel was. I watched both smile and qubo equally a lot during my childhood, and as for my favorite program from smile, I would probably have to say superbook was my favorite(the old anime one, not the modern cgi show) and that’s just because I’m a sucker for old anime art styles. Also, Larryboy was the best thing to be invented by man. Period.

  • @TheChristianFangirl

    Oh goodness. I remember about 90% of these shows, and I can’t believe how many I had forgotten. 😅 iShine Knect was a favorite for my brother and I. We really wanted to watch, but never really liked any of the disney channel sitcoms, and when we found this, we thought it was just the coolest thing since sliced bread. We were like "It's like a Disney sitcom but it's actually good?! And has catchy music?! * gasp *"
    One thing I would like to point out is that Rock Kids TV is actually a newer show that began airing in early 2016. (Possibly late 2015) It's actually a spin-off that was a last attempt to save a dying series. The original two series that it was based on were called GodRocks! and GodRocks! Bibletoons respectively, and were about a group of talking rocks that told Bible stories and turned Bible verses into songs. The original 3d animated series, GodRocks!, first aired in 2005 with the final episode airing in late 2008. The 2d animated "reboot", GodRocks! Bibletoons, first aired in mid 2009 and ran until Rock Kids TV showed up in 2015-2016. I'm not 100% certain on all the air dates, but this is just a rough history. The GodRocks! band often seen in the two shows and Rock kids, was a real band that consisted of the voice actors for the main characters, and went on tours until 2011. They stopped producing Rock Kids in 2018 I believe, when the two completely irreplaceable members (the ones that basically founded it) had a kid and left the band.
    GodRocks! and its crippling obscurity is the reason I created my channel to begin with. It is absolutely my most favorite show of all time and I want other people to find and enjoy what I consider the best show ever. I remember I was so infuriated when I found out that the two GR! series were replaced by the weird amalgamation that is Rock Kids TV.
    If you are interested, I have every episode GodRocks! Bibletoons currently on my channel. I do own the original 3d animated series on dvd, but I haven’t yet found a way to get those on to YT that doesn’t require me to film my tv screen. XD
    Here are a couple other shows that I can remember that were not listed in the vid:
    Pahappahooie Island (I think that's how you spell it)- A show about a group of puppets who live in the jungle and learn social skills
    Charlie Church Mouse- A really weird mix of live action, puppets, and bad 3d animation, meant to teach about prayer and social skills
    Ewe Know- A 2d animated show that teaches bible lessons by using the analogy of a flock of sheep and their Good Shepherd
    Carlos the Caterpillar- A 3d animated hispanic show that teaches social skills
    Bug Time Adventures- A 2d animated show about bugs that live through Bible stories
    -Some live-action science show featuring a professor and his assistant
    Artzooka- A live-action arts and crafts show based around this guy crafting things in his basement. This one was also on Qubo
    Bj's Teddybear Bible stories- A 2d animated show for 2-5 year olds about a teddybear that read Bible stories
    Monster Truck Adventures- A 3d animated show about monster truck kids learning life/moral lessons
    Big Garage- A (British I think) claymation show about a group of taxi cars who learn social/moral lessons
    Cowboy Dan's Frontier- A live-action show featuring a real cowboy named Dan who teaches about agriculture and life/moral lessons. (I have actually talked to him in real life. He is an amazing person!)
    Auto B Good- A 3d animated show about vehicles that learn life/moral lessons
    There’s prolly more I have forgotten, but these were most of the shows that I watched and really liked. Honestly, I still enjoy quite a few of them to this day, but now that I am much, much older, I find that some of them are just......ah, not good. 😅
    Thank you for mentioning Cherub Wings! That show was absolutely horrible and terrifying. The questions of what were they on when they animated that, and why was it popular enough to get a spanish dub are beyond me.

      Came here to comment this- thanks for mentioning some of the ones that were missed! There's also Colby's Clubhouse (Christian Barney before Barney with a very 80s titular robot), St. Bear's Dolls Hospital (more puppets! but in a doll hospital setting), and The Huggabug Club (puppet suits and two once-famous sitcom actress sisters and obligatory group of kids). SoaC was a big part of my childhood along with Qubo and I immediately clicked on this video when I saw it in my recommended because not a lot of people have talked about it! Wikipedia has a more comprehensive list of all the shows and is easier to access than trying to scour the way back machine :) So many of the songs in these shows are earworms that stick with me to this day- the Fruit of the Spirit song from God Rocks, one particular song from Dooley and Pals about "do what Dooley says to do," the iShine Knect theme song, the Faithville theme song (a cover of Accentuate the Positive by Bing Crosby), the Miss Charity's Diner theme song (fun fact: the show is in the same universe as Faithville)...I could go on for awhile :)

    I LOVED this program as a child. I was hooked on almost all the shows including VeggieTales (shoutout to Big Idea for giving us an iconic masterpiece), but there was one show in particular that was probably never heard of and it aired every once in a while. Don't worry, it's 100% real, I ain't making this up. The show was called Storyteller Café and it was this show that took place in a Café where the toys that are sitting on the shelf come to life and re-enact Bible stories. It was like Christian Toy Story and I loved it! The chill, Peanuts-esque jazz music in the background, the creative ways to re-enact Bible stories while trying to be appropriately accurate to where it was the real deal, but for kids to understand, and the toys came to life they had amazing personalities! Saying "Christians & anime don't mix" is kinda like saying "Christians & rock music don't mix."
    Some anime series have themes which contradict Christianity; Christians, generally, won't watch those, but most other shows are, generally, ok. A show based around Bible stories is almost 100% going to be accepted.
    After all, over 90% of U.S. residents were Christians in the 60's, & "Speed Racer" was still a big success.

    • @crabfinated
      @crabfinated  Год назад +1

      I was raised in an uber-religious household, around lots of other Christians. I'm also in various Christian groups. One of the BIGGEST things that Christians hate is anime, because they think it's all sinful. The whole 'pokemon is demonic' was a big thing in the 90's.
      It's mostly 90's and current Christians that have the major issues.
      I'm glad you haven't had to deal with those kind of people, though!

    • @stillbuyvhs
      @stillbuyvhs Год назад

      @@crabfinated I was too, & still am part of one. If I were to generalize from my experience, I'd say Christians don't like Bible-based shows, since said movies are rarely accurate to the text. (That's why I said a "A show based around Bible stories is almost 100% going to be accepted,," instead of "A show based around Bible stories is 100% going to be accepted.")
      Be careful when generalizing; your experience may not match everyone else's. Most Christians listened to Rock, even in the 70's when it was controversial, since Rock was a major part of the industry in a mostly-Christian nation. Most Christians watched Pokémon, even when it was controversial, since Pokémon was a major success in a mostly Christian nation. And most Christians watched Bible-based films, since said films were successful in a mostly-Christian nation.
      I made a page trying to answer most of the questions about Pokémon, by the way: websitering.neocities.org/pkmn/controvercy

    • @crabfinated
      @crabfinated  Год назад

      Again, I'm so very happy that that's been your experience. I asked a few Christians I know at work and all of them said "yeah Christians hate anime." It's a very big thing. I live in Ohio, so maybe it's just the more rural areas that have this problem, but it's widespread around here. I am glad you've been raised in a very accepting section of Christians. :)

    • @stillbuyvhs
      @stillbuyvhs Год назад

      @@crabfinated Grew up in the Bible Belt. Definitely were some shows I couldn't watch, but the focus was always on what happened on those shows; I don't recall any lessons about the evils of Rock, or Rap, or Anime.
      Don't mind that some shows were off limits; some things just aren't for kids, or are bad influences in general. Of course, one must decide what is bad before one decides what a bad influence is.
      I remember Pokémon being controversial, but I don't remember anyone actually doing anything about it. I heard of some folks having to get rid of cards & things, but I never witnessed it myself, & the series was so pervasive, it's hard to believe the controversy represented the majority's opinion.
      As for anime... I don't think most folks in my area knew what anime was till about a year or two after Pokemon, Digimon, & Monster Rancher were released. Hard to ban something if you don't know what it is! :)
      If I remember right, most of the anime shows on TBS were dubbed in the late 80's or early 90's, before anime become well-known to mainstream audiences & controversial.

      @crabfinated  Год назад +1

      @@stillbuyvhs That's a really good point. If you don't know about it, you can't ban it. Now your points make a lot more sense!

    Yes, NFL buffs, the version of _Heidi_ that aired on Smile of a Child was the one that caused a stir in the television broadcast world upon its premiere on NBC in 1968. During its first forty minutes on the air, the Oakland Raiders scored two touchdowns at the last minute to defeat the visiting New York Jets 43-32, and the final score of the game (which ran on the same network on the same day) was displayed in the middle of a scene in which Heidi's paralyzed cousin, Clara, took her first, slow steps.

    You DEFINITELY need to make a video on Whirl! It's actually kinda good, despite 90% of the episodes only being 3/4½ minutes long. It's on Sparkhouse Family's RUclips page
    That, and this other show from 2004-2006 called Hugglers, since it aired on Smile of a Child on 2010, I believe. The Hugglers is about a live action Sunday school teacher named Ms. Sara, and her students; Freddi the teddy bear, Burt the frog, Chip the monkey, Rollie the rhinoceros, and Wanda-Boo the bat who doesn't talk, but draws pictures instead. And no, there are no puppets. There's only three episodes made; the "holiday special" which is actually the first, which is a two-parter about the birth of Jesus and the Wisemen and Shepherds giving baby Jesus gifts, the "first adventure" which is actually the second episode, that's about the good Samaritan parable where the kids get impatient over figuring out what Sara's surprise was by bullying Wanda-Boo (spoilers: the surprise is the Friendship Festival), and finally, their "second adventure" a.k.a. the third and last episode where it's about Jesus blessing the little kids and the plot is about the Hugglers convincing themselves that they're too young to do anything important for the Friendship Festival until they encounter Jesus.
    The Hugglers DVDs are available to buy on eBay, and I just wanna let you know that the actress who played Ms. Sara, Sue Rogers, is now a teacher for Mohawk College where she's an animation and animation writing professor, plus I spoke with one of the creators of the show! He shared me some information about the show that I'm sure you won't mind me sharing to you, he still looks back fondly on the production of it and how well it turned out in the end.
    So, you should totally make a video on Whirl and Hugglers, cuz I'm excited about you finding out a lot of stuff about them, like the lost Whirl pilot from 2013 and stuff like that!
    Also Hugglers is lost media as of right now :')

    I am a HUGE fan of LarryBoy: The Cartoon Adventures. I love the fact that Larry works as a janitor for the Daily Bumble, the same with Bob. In the intro, Alfred gets a warning on his calculations: "CONSIDERED ARMLESS AND DANGEROUS". Armless makes sense because the Veggies are without arms or legs. Instead, they bounce

    I watched smile of a child 24/7 when I was younger and I remember almost EVERYTHING about the shows and what time it came on in the UK (Smile of a child runs on American time zone so bb bedtime would be playing at night but in the UK it would be playing at 4AM)
    My favourite was God Rocks and I used to HATE veggietales for some reason (except larryboy cartoon adventures that would come on at 2AM) I used to stay up till 1AM to watch Ishine knect and wake up at 4AM on Thursday for cubby cubbies
    I used to watch donkey ollie every time it came on before school on Tuesday and Thursday) same for Bugtime Adventures(Wednesday) Adventures and Knock knock show (Monday and Friday)
    For some reason RockidsTv took over GodRocks in 2013 I don’t know why though
    Also little women and swiss family robinson are animes that were on smile of a child swiss family robinson would come on around 16PM or 2AM depending what day it is (I remember watching little women in winter and I remember swiss family robinson came on at 2AM)
    However smile of a child has changed a lot not for the best in my opinion I honestly prefer it before they changed it to Smile. I haven’t watched it since 2021 (I remembered Smile of a child and I decided to download the TBN app to watch it) because after a week TBN did a thing where I have to pay to continue using the app
    The schedule on their new website isn’t accurate anymore because it would say next playing Rockids TV and instead it would play something completely different
    They also took down LOTS of other amazing shows to new ones e.g 321 Penguins
    And to be honest I’m not surprised on the new website they have a shows that they don’t play but keep it there for show they did that on their old website
    Ryan defrates (I watched it RUclips) Seakids, Whirl (I watched it RUclips), the RUclips vlog thing (I saw the trailer and I didn’t like it) and Topsy Turvry are new shows that came on Smile probably around 2021 (2022 for Whirl and Ryan defrates because I saw it slowly getting uploaded on RUclips )
    EDIT: I forgot about my favourite tv show paphooey island. Best show I watched ever!! Its an underrated show that the full episodes can be only found on internet archive, it’s really cool the songs are catchy.
    And there was a show called Lassie it was in black and white don’t remember much about it though
