I have had hormonal acne for about 5 years. I have been taking this medication for 10 weeks and at the 8 week mark is when I noticed a huge improvement. My skin feels soft and breakout free!! It did make my skin drier, but nothing that can’t be fixed with a moisturizer. I had also been losing my hair for years and the shearing has almost disappeared. I think this is a miracle and I pray that it continues to work for me.

I have had acne for nearly 15 yrs now, first it was teenage hormones and now adult hormones, I once went to a dermat who gave me spironolactone, it worked like miracle, like nothing ever did. I was curious so i looked it up, how it works etc. So while growing up I was told don't eat sugar, it's bad for acne. But i was surprised to know that eating sugar triggers ovaries to produce androgens. Additionally, high stress means high cortisol levels, cortisol later forms androgens later.
Also I think acne is more of an internal job. Be mindful of stress, anger, eat clean, sleep early and stay the hell away from unrequited drama!

In the past I took 30mg daily for my acne for one year and saw amazing results. Now, my hormonal acne has come back harder than ever. Today I got a new prescription! I am so happy, despite it being the minimum dosage of 25mg. (I have lightheadedness, dizziness, and weakness problems as it is due to low blood pressure, so that's why I have to be careful). But I am so excited to be back on it because no matter how good I eat, drink water, sleep, and my skincare routine, it won't go away because it's caused by hormones.

You should try Cyproterone if you can get it. Spironolactone is an androgen receptor agonist (not an anti-gonadotropin), so it might increase your testosterone levels over time as the free testosterone builds up and does not get metabolized.

I have been using Spironolactone for 6 months now and I finally have clear, super soft skin. I have been struggling with hormonal acne for most of my life and I have tried everything. I have used
antibiotic treatment in the past which worked, but it wasn’t great for my gut health. Since Spironolactone is not an antibiotic, I have seen a huge difference in my gut health and so much happier. Please stay consistent with this medication as it is 💯 worth it! I am currently taking 50mg twice a day and it has literally changed my life. So happy my dermatologist recommended this to me!

Hello again! Here is the response from Dr. Anderson:
"Thank you for the comment. I think what you might be experiencing is dryness of your hair as spironolactone is decreasing the oil that is naturally produced by your scalp. Less oil = more dry and brittle feeling. I would recommend making sure that you are getting your proper Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids and then using a good shampoo and hair conditioner that is not too harsh/drying/or containing sodium lauryl sulfate. If this does not make sense then please ask the Provider who prescribed the medication to look into it. Thank you again for your comment."
Hope you find this helpful, and have a great Thanksgiving week!

It's purpose isn't made to treat men, only women with hormonal acne. You may need someone with expertise in the field of hormone-regulation therapy. A dermatologist is limited to skin disorders, etc. but u might need to collect your family medical history and take some tests for them to figure out exactly what's going on. Because the cause could be an underlying medical condition like a deficiency or something similar and you need to find the root cause. Much safer than spironolactone. This medication, if taken with even little amount of food will definitely make some people pass out or at least very nauseous.
