You can hear the raucous atmosphere at this game. The West Germany- Holland semi was even better. A fantastic tournament with 8 top teams with very little margin of error. Modern football is to dull compared to this.
@@ravindranpillai5155 Having 8 of the best teams in Europe in a tournament is much better quality than a 24/32 team format, the latter of which will feature lots of poor sides.
Bobby Robson"s Euro record was appaling. Failed to Qualify in 84 didnt win a game in 88 lost all three kept his Job . .Even in 90 he had a lot of luck but he did have a genius in Paul Gascoigne. We played well in two of our six Games against Holland and Germany .
England that year had problems both on and off the pitch the off the pitch problems with England fans fighting on the streets of Stuttgart was unsurprisingly the lead story on the Six O'Clock News that followed
.....and that appalling pre-tournament song they did created for them by Stock, Aitken and Waterman didn't help much either did it?! 'We're Going All the Way'!!!! yeah we are lads......all the way HOME on the plane after 3 bloody games! 🤣
Thats not true . England are always a nearly team and in 1986 world cup it took a handball to knock us out . in 1990 we were fantastic but lost a swmi final on a penalty shootout
@@dorkknight8846 No. We weren't fantastic. We were abysmal against Irish, OK against a Holland team that had both Guillit and Van Basten carrying injuries, crap against Egypt, mostly crap against Belgium, most entirely crap against cameroon and good in spots against Germany. We were INCREDIBLY lucky throughout Italia 90. Go watch the FULL games and call me a liar.
2:07 To make matters worse, the BBC decided not to show England's final match against the USSR and opted to show Ireland vs Netherlands instead. Different time, obviously when digital tv wasn't around yet.

It was dull back then compared to the previous periods…it’s always nostalgic when it’s far from current time…

The reason for the quick ending is that the coverage preceded the Six O'Clock News - and back then the news bulletins were immovable objects.
MVB to me the best striker ever, look at the finishing so clean and clinical.
I'd say between him and big Ronaldo.
Both diminished by injury but at their peaks at a different level to any strikers I've ever seen.

So the BBC just used the MOTD theme for the Euros that year?
Yes they did - for Euro 92 & Euro 96 they used Beethoven's "Ode To Joy."
saved them some cost

@@andycross9840 The Top of the pops appearance summed it up 😂
The European ban killed the national team 85-91, Lineker was ill also.

@Jayfive276 spot on sir. The false memories of england playing swashbuckling football in 90 always make me laugh.

England were out after 2 games

Mark Wright would get a pretty penny for that shirt of Koeman's.
1:33 What does 1:4 and 0:4 for England mean?
After 2 matches played. 1 Goal in favor and 4 against ( 0 - 1 and 1 - 3), 0 points out of the possible 4
