Video of Countdown to Extinction (now Dinosaur) at Disney's Animal
Kingdom. This is the complete attraction including pre-show video and
ride. You'll notice in the intro that not only is the signage extinct, but the reflecting pool doesn't have the high walls it currently does to keep people from wading in the water.
wayy better than the new one, lots of toned down effects :(
For anyone still concerned about this being the Original version vs. Just the same Dinosaur ride, it is indeed the Original CTX ride. In 1998 this ride was opened as CTX and during soft Opening had a very different narration that didn't last long. There is another video on youtube with that audio throughout. They quickly changed the script shortly before or after official opening I believe, but the ride was still the same. In 2000 is when the ride was changed to Dinosaur and certain effects were turned down or off.
Most Noticeably is the Pterosaur not swooping anymore, Compsognathus not leaping across the track, Lasers/pyro/smoke effects turned off (most of the time), and most Dinosaurs range of motion are less now (but thats probably partly due to age and not having a proper sprucing)
ctxak98 Yeah... Can they please take Dinosaur and Everest down for a good amount of time (not at the same time preferably) to restore them to their former glory!
+Keenan Babcock Your wish has been granted. Dinosaur is under some somewhat lengthy refurbishment.
ctxak98 I thought they limited the compies & the pterodactyl because they didn’t have a safe B mode in case they broke down.
I went back in 2019 and the animatronics have better moevement now and all the effects were working so We can officially call it dinosaur now
I went to AK in Sept 1998 and I remember the original sound track.
Fun ride, but when I hear the words "Countdown to Extinction" I can only think of Megadeth!
MAN I WISH i could see esepcially near the end when the meteor hit
Me too, I can't find any actual footage of that.:(
Dylan Hooton it was a static rock on the same track the carnotaurus that lunges at you now runs on
6:47
Also right before you come back the carnitaur looks like it’s about to eat you!
Apparently they had to make the ride a lot less scary a few years after it opened because it was frightening young children. I rode it in July 1999 when it was still the original version I think.
My friend rode it in August 1999.
2:04 Wow, they designed Aladar even before he became a character.
No that's not aladar that a styracaurus aladar is a iguanadon
sonicspeed2001 If you mean at the fountain, then yeah I know that. I meant when Seeker shows him.
Oooh now I understand . Okay thanks
Matt Piavis yeah the movie was In Development at the time the ride came out. They included it because they wanted it to loosely tie in with the film (despite the name change it still ties in very loosely to the film)
you stole that from yesterworld
0:40: OMG It's the Cosby Show mother!!
Loved her
I know the same thing happened in the early 2000s with and attraction in tomorrow land. The interactive show that the now have with stich that was once a much darker and intense thing called the alien encounter but Disney had to take it out eventually they had to many little kids come out off it crying. I think they had some kids as old as ten that came out off it crying so they took it out.
I wish you could actually SEE the illuminated things in the video
My friend Martha went on this back in 1999. By then, it had the current narration but I think the intense effects were still there and the meteor was what you got your photo taken by. Martha told me that in the photo, she had her hands up along with her neighbor Elizabeth (whose family was friends with Martha's and they took vacations together.)
I don't know where Disney gets the idea that frightening children just a little bit is a bad thing. I first rode this back when it was brand new in 1998 when I was 7-years-old and yeah, it was pretty freaky... but I loved it! The fact that the subject is dinosaurs kinda made it a lot less scary and more interesting and exciting for me I think as I was a huge dinosaur-nut at the time just like every boy was.
My friend Martha liked the dinosaurs here; previously on Universe of Energy in 1995 she was fascinated with the dinosaurs there (as she was when she went on Ellen in 1999, same trip she rode this.)
The talking is a bit different....
This is NOT the original Countdown to Extinction. The ride portion anyway. Somewhere here on RUclips there is a video with the original ride. In that version, Seeker is more laid back, and more noticeably, the line Seeker says right before you go into the time machine is, "We've got a date with a dino!", and other lines are changed. I think the only footage from the original ride is the beginning.
Wildabeest the original Count Down to extinction audio lasted for like a week because it was awful
@@Bro19999 Dinosaur (2000)
Yeah they pretty much always intended to tie the attraction in with the movie. The movie had been in development for years before 2000 and as you can see in the preshow they used pretty much an exact clip from the movie in showing the footage of the Iguanodon. Not to mention the primary antagonist of the ride being a Carnotaurus, same antagonist in the movie. The similarities are just too obvious not to say that there isn't a strong connection between the two.
Yeh it's a real shame that Disney has to change everyhing because parents are so sensitive these days. Just look at their films, they're meaningless. Do you think classics like Pinocchio or some of the other dark-ish Disney films would be released now? I was scared of this ride when I first went on it, but as I got a little bit older I loved it and I wished they'd have kept the Carnotaurus chasing you. I remember that being a brilliant effect.
Do you know that the dinosaur movie first planned in 1996 before they animated aladar in the pre show when the park opened before they release the film until 2000 and refurbished for a new name?
Huh.. I thought they changed the ride itself somehow when they changed the name, but this seems to be identical aside from the reflecting pool and the signage outside.
That's Dinosaur
They made animated scenes of compies running on the Branches.
So literally there is no difference between this and The Dinosaur ride?
There are differences, but they're very minor.
iamobeliskquake Alot of the dinos have been turned down. They just made it alot less scary
Anthony Studios oh man, thats what makes it fun.
exactly! i rode It less than a week ago and i was disappointed! they also put alot of black lights in to make them look very cartoony.
No it was a much more intense ride when it first opened .
Please with lights because i cant see anything
You do realize how old this video is right
@@WonkiWeaboo yeah but i still wish i could seex
This actually isn't Countdown To Extinction, this is after they made the change to Dinosaur. The original CTX had a different sounding narrator and different sound effects. Though the footage of the outside and the museum area is actually from the original version.
This IS CTX. The ride's soundtrack was changed either prior, or at opening day(not counting the 2000 "update").
That's so weird. So they changed it directly after the ride opened? There is another video that has the absolute original version and you can see so many differences. This one looks nearly exactly the same as the current one.
Anthony Ianitello Yeah, they changed the audio. And for the better, in my opinion.
Seeker's original narration was awful, and lacked the sense of urgency that the current one has.
Yes new verzion sucks . The original I had to do with my eyes closed our covered that's how intense it was. It had 3 star rank in a attraction book that about what tower of terrors. Haunted mansion had a 1. Our 2 star rated that's how intense it was.
This is the worst video of all that I’ve seen. But the sound is good
this is the new one not the old one
It is the 1998 version as tagged which is before the current version of “Dinosaur”
Can’t see shit...
