  • As we enter an election year, the NFFN is organising a series of online hustings in constituencies in England. The focus of our hustings is to hear what each candidate and their party will do to support a vibrant, nature-friendly farming sector in their constituency.
Topics up for discussion during our Penrith and Solway hustings were funding for environmental schemes, supply chain fairness, international trade, and transitioning to more climate-friendly diets.
Attendees had a chance to ask candidates questions about local farming issues.
    Panellists:
Host: Mark Lee, NFFN farmer in Cumbria
Mark Jenkinson, Conservative candidate for Penrith and Solway
Julia Aglionby, Liberal Democrat candidate for Penrith and Solway
Markus Campbell-Savours, Labour candidate for Penrith and Solway
    What is a hustings?
A hustings is a meeting where election candidates debate policies and answer questions from the audience. In an NFFN context, it will run in a similar format to a webinar, with the candidates as panellists and constituents as audience members. The focus of each hustings will be to hear what each candidate and their party will do to support a vibrant nature-friendly farming sector in their constituency.
