A lot of people are missing the point of this and why this is a bargain. When you have this, you can basically keep it as you upgrade your phone. With snapdragon-powered laptops nowadays, its just a matter of time until a flagship phone can run full windows. I am already using DEX 90% of the time.
If a person needs the additional power of their home computer, use TeamView or Google Remote Desktop and the problem is solved. I have done this on many occasions with great success. When the 'dock' become less expensive, you'll see people availing themselves of this. Reviewers of DeX never cover this.
Excellent review. I see this as a niche product for people who can get away with doing their dayjob/work on Samsung DeX or people who use a cloud PC a lot. Otherwise, as much as I'd like to use my phone as my main laptop PC as well, it just isn't there yet with the current state of apps and Samsung DeX. Giving us the ability to run desktop OSes like Windows in a virtual machine in DeX would be amazing.
Agreed. I think there's only so much DeX and Android apps can do, so I also feel it's kind of a wasted opportunity to not be able to run actual desktop OSes in it, even if through virtual machines.
I really don't understand what Nextdock was thinking with this because it still has a lot of the same issues as the previous version, like you mentioned, so it feels more like a prototype than a polished final product. I think its biggest problem is the price, though, as $300 is rather extortionate when you can get a decent Chromebook for that price.
I bought a similar product from UPERFECT which was using a similar SKU. No one in RUclips reviews mentioned how reflective the screen was, which made it almost unusable in lecture halls. The battery life was also abysmal, lasting less than two hours. Lengthy email conversations with support claimed that they couldn't replace the battery. They also refused to send me a battery replacement or tell me how to replace it myself. They said some nonsense about it having to take 15-30 days to repair it, and then they proceeded to ask me how much the fee for the battery change would be (how would I know??) for verification. Afterwards, they want me to send the device over at my own costs. I asked for the instructions on how to send it back, and they continued with the nonsense about long repair times. Instead, they offered a 50% voucher for my next monitor, which does not make sense since I have to spend hundreds of dollars again for a monitor which will end with battery issues and a terrible display. Their argument was that I will be responsible for the return costs because I have used it for a long time (time check, 5 months of useless emails). I eventually received a partial refund through PayPal. Do not recommend. - Customer support is terrible. - Support does not want to provide proper instructions to return the device. - Support provides excuses about returning the device for repairs, stating long repair times. - Support wants customers to pay for return costs. - Support wants customers to buy another defective and discounted product. - Warranty is fake and clearly for show.
I love your reviews, Thao. The thing missing in Android is ChromeOS when the phone is connected to a screen and keyboard. I think it is coming, they are already working on both operating systems having the same Linux Kernal and besides that, ChromeOS is functional inside some Android devices.
I remember 9to5Google did a video on it (Pixel 8/Pro, latest Android beta) some days ago but it doesn't really have taskbars and we have to install an overlay app for that. But that's a progress.
They should give it a little extra thickness & make it where your phone or tablet can be stowed inside it. Either behind the screen or under the keyboard. That way can have a better keyboard & track pad layout.
You can easily connect your Ally or gaming handheld to a Thunderbolt 4 dock to supply 65w of power, and then connect the handheld to this lapdock. It can hence serve as a laptop for both your smartphone and handheld use cases.
Most docks would only do hdmi out. Very few that I can think of would have usb-c for power and another usb-c out for display and touch stuff too. You would probably have to do hdmi to micro hdmi for display, and then run another cable from the dock to the nexdock and even then the dock would probably need an extra usb-c for data because no one has a usb to usb cable anymore
I ordered one of these a few weeks ago. They are supposed to start shipping after July 31st. I really love the idea of just using one of this and my Samsung S22. You are absolutely right... I tell people about DEX and they don't know or never heard of it. I am looking forward to mine... I am pretty tech savy so I guess I will deal with all of the short comings of this product and DEX.

I know any pre-2024 ASUS Zenbook Duo owners can relate to the experience of using it, but it still feels awkward to have the touchpad on the right side when we are so used to the bottom side. Also, we tend to use an external mouse on the right side.

I like the concept of these devices. I use a duet 5 and a fold 4 for work. If prices and battery and screen tech lines up in the future I would consider.
Samsung used to offer a DeX app you could download, install in a target computer so, when you plugged your DeX-enabled phone, it would automatically take over the hardware so you could use your phone to drive the OS and the computer hardware would just be an interface. It was great, because you could literally get an old laptop, install windows 7 (it was a few years ago), and just use it to interface with your phone in desktop mode. It would be even less expensive than getting this. Sadly, Samsung removed the app a long time ago. Never understood why
I'm pretty sure it is still there and updated regularly. I still get update prompts. There is one major limitation for me. The battery life on my laptop. My laptop does after about 45 mins of use, even with the brightness below 50%. Non Dex use I get normal battery life. I would love to know if others have noticed the same issue.

Tbh, I'm more than happy to trade higher pixel density for longer battery.
They should just scrap the touchpad. 100% of the time i just disable the touchpad. Since the phone trackpad works better and there's touchscreen i would not have minded without the touchpad.
A better screen, a pencil and you get a tablet
4:3 aspect ratio
120hz refresh rate
Bigger battery and better speakers
🙏
Nexdock if u r listening here. I love your concept. To have something that you don't need to buy a tab s ultra is awesome but few tweaks guys and ur on. U need somehow to make either wireless dex connection like thr new Apple way where even if ur phone is locked u just jump on that way the mouse pad can be normal for left and right ppl and if then u can't u need some cable way because the apple way requires some software in the nexdog laptop then u need the phone insert able so you can pick up laptop and fold it and still have trackpad middle and yeh get a camera guys. That's pretty much it
Ppl need to feel to use it very seamless like a tablet feel no extra plugging and keeping phone some place is awkward no wireless and still need to activate things. I hope u do this I'd be a person to not have to buy a tab s10 or or tabs20 ultra in future.
It's getting out of hands now. It's your 15th Video on Samsung Dex. 🤣
Lap dog 😂😂😂 come here. Lol
A U$300 chromebook is literally better. Better screen, better battery and less hassle...
This is a dope!
신기하지만... 왜 그래야 하는지 잘 모르겠네요 소개 감사합니다!
Price is the first deal braker...
1200 euro Samsung s24 ultra + 300 euro lapdoc have no sense,
1 tablet 11 inch is best choice
This just seems cumbersome
I ❤ U
4ever
People are still buying these things? 🤦🤦🤦
This product is a failure. No place to put the phone. Hanging off the side is unacceptable.
Hi
First!
Great to be the first
Crapbook?!
A specialty docking device that has no actual space to DOCK AND SECURE the phone? So it's just gonna dangle on the side or slide around above the keyboard? Dafuk kind of stupidity is this? 🤡
