I love this scene because Wardaddy was caught trying to live like a human, trying to eat dinner in a civilized, homely way. The others are so animalistic, Crude, and Desensitized they don't understand what it means for him to get away. When the soldiers start harassing him about there past and how they should deserve a lot more respect then the new recruit. Wardaddy tells them to shut up by throwing his Revolver on the table. He's also saying "How dare you try to remind me of the horrors of war and what we have done. Can't you see I'm trying to be a dignified human even for a little bit?!" it could also be assumed that he's trying to be nice to Norman and trying to help him not turn animalistic like the others have, them not having respect for anything or any morals. I could be wrong but that's my take from this Scene, I love it a lot.

You're not wrong. There's a lot of layers to the scene & it's very intense with emotions. So, your analysis is very valid in this case. It's true Wardaddy doesn't want Norman to become some vile monster like his friends because he's a young guy & typically the older bros will move heaven & earth for their younger comrades to survive beyond themselves. He wants Norman to be able to re-enter society on return home, too. When you've been through a lot & sacrficed or just shed away your innocence naturally, you have a greater appreciation for it & a sense of duty to protect the innocence of others. A lot of WW2 guys were pretty good at re-entering society, but there were a lot with troubles, too.
Kind of reminds me of Eugene Sledge story where a Doc reminds him he is still a human being when he almost cuts out gold teeth with his knife and he should not endulg in intrusive thoughts and actions.
This is an extremely powerful scene. You can literally perceive and interpret it, in any way that you want. Especially when the the house gets bombed and the girls die...
The poster of this video needed to let it go about another 30 seconds. Those two women are visibility upset when Norman and Wardaddy have to leave. If you're a woman in the middle of a war like this, better the devil you do know than the one you don't. They have no idea who is coming next, and how they'll be treated. Norman and Wardaddy definitely offer safety and protection from someone possibly much worse.
@studioandromedawn4838 No kidding, Sherlock. Like I said, this scene can be interpreted in so many ways. Through Wardaddy's eyes, she was just a girl-he's a full-grown adult, after all. That's why I mentioned the multiple ways you can interpret this scene. Wardaddy was protecting the girl from his comrades who wanted to use her for sex, but at the same time, he gave Norman the opportunity to have sex with her. Wardaddy referred to her as a "girl" repeatedly, saying things like: • "That's the girl's egg." • "Offer the girl a plate" Norman, on the other hand, doesn't really know what love is. You can't truly love someone after just having sex with them once. In my interpretation, the war was taking its toll on him. He was desperate for something to hold onto-someone to come back to, perhaps. I could go on forever about this. One more thing: this scene foreshadowed what would happen next through the subtle clues it gave us, such as the food scene, Norman's interaction with the girl, and the emotional stories the characters shared. It felt like a symbolic "last meal." This movie was truly amazing, and I could talk about it endlessly.

They cut so much from the movie. The reason why war daddy was close to Norman was because Norman reminded him a lot of his brother who war daddy accidentally killed, along with his wife, while drunk driving. This scene is more emotional than presented; Top's war family feels suddenly abandoned because Top maybe just wanted a minute to feel like he had his original family back. And maybe Top himself didn't realize every warrior has two families, those you raise, and those you raise hell with, which is why the rest of his crew felt slighted.

He got coerced sex with a girl. Coerced-it was not romantic. No matter how much the male writer of the movie wants us to believe that women under pressure by an enemy force(or hell even your own troops!-as I know personally ) to have sex with a grimy stranger with a gun is anything but coercive.
When soldiers start acting like that, they are either showing their suppressed thoughts after getting a sense of power due to their position or their mind is already unstable due to the horrors and traumas of war they had witnessed prior.
My dad was a couple of days behind these men on his trip to Normandy and he always told me that his over-riding memory of his advance through the bocage was the stench of dead horses.

This scene is sooo deep… They are soooo far gone due to the horror but yet Pitt’s character keeps them around bc they bring value towards their squad until the very end… after Heath, Shia is my guy and Jon is always a solid man to bat for tbh
Great scene about the complexity of human interactions. At first you’re mad at them for being so crass and animalistic. Then theres the horse story and you get it. They were never given a chance to process their severe stress. The tragedy is the divide between the hardened who feel wronged others didn’t go through what they did, vs the naive who can never relate to them through no fault of their own, just lucky enough to have ended up in better positions.
@@booradley3400 the biggest for me is the end, without spoiling anything it just went too Hollywood action movie, like the last fight was way too much/too unrealistic. Still a good movie, the ending is stilll good in regards to what happens to the characters and story etc, it just went too far/unrealistic for that final fight.
It has more faults than anything, it has some decent scenes but the movie as a whole is dog water. Great cast, great sets and props but the plot nose dives after the first act. The endings made me think it was thrown together during a writers strike or something.
Makes me think of Matrix somehow. Sergent wants to take the red pill for one hour, just one hour, just a nice meal. The other ones took the blue pill and they can’t go back, and they hate him for it. They’re all sad because of it. What a movie, absolutly brilliant
people need to watch the deleted scenes of this scene and more. give more context to why some characters act certain way and gives them more an identity than just being soldiers. they give background to each character by sharing stories and makes them look vulnerable- feel believable and alive. go watch the deleted scenes, its like 40minutes long.

"I'm here to enjoy my meal, and as much as you want to destroy it, your not gonna stop me...." We see Top as a character that rarely ever wastes a word, rarely goes against what he commands until something of the war happens. In everything that was done in the house, the least worst thing, I imagine in a civilians life, was talking about what happened during their missions. Not messing with the family, not harrassing Norman, not making the girl cry and licking his breakfast. But it was just remembering, it was going back to those horrors and having to remember it that ruined that moment for him. There's almost an acceptance as their leader, knowing what the horror of this war has done to his men, he rarely stops them unless they take it too far. But its remembering and lingering on that unspeakable past that hurts him, where even as a leader he can't do anything. Its difficult to even call it selfish, because talk about it now, in the midst of war, and morale can fall quick. And yet, that is the sanist thing to do, but you almost can't allow it, because nothing in the war is sane.
It’s an incredible feat for a pair of actors to outshine Brad Pitt in an acting performance, but that’s exactly what Le Beouf and Bernthal did in this film, and I think that’s what Brad Pitt intended as Director.
I like how Wardaddy wasn’t really baby sitting Norman in this scene when they were messing w him, like yah he called him out a couple times but didn’t really interfere that much, cuz the only way he would gain their respect is to push back and defend himself and not be babied, War Daddy was a good leader for that cuz at the same time he would know when enough is enough tho
I'm a Yankee and I don't like the way Hollywood portraits Georgians in this scene. People from Georgia are the nicest, most humble people you will ever meet. My gal and I love Georgia. Everytime we hit that state line we get some boiled peanuts and stop at a peach stand. Yeah I've met an asshole from Georgia once, told him my ancestor was buried in Andersonville and his brother was buried at Gettysburg. He said I have an ancestor buried in Elmira and his was brother in buried at Gettysburg too. Imagine that😏
I think someone said because don wanted a reprieve from the war and to just feel normal again for a while. Norman was invited because he was still pure and Don may have seen himself before the war robbed him of much of his civility, and he knew the other three were far too rough for a civilized meal. And they acted out because they felt hurt they weren't invited even after all they had been through together before Norman. But they basically proved his point, they were unfit to be there as the war had caused them to lose much of their humanity. And when Don had finally had enough he threw the weapon on the table like James bowie, meaning that if they wanted to challenge him they had better pick up the weapon or shut the hell up. it was incredibly tense and uncomfortable as if the audience was in Norman's shoes. I also liked how the other two men looked up when pena started his story knowing full damn well it would really rub Don the wrong way by bringing up those experiences.
@@zhenli541 because he was trying to enjoy a meal. And don loved horses. So pena told the story about a horrific experience they had where they had to endure killing horses and deal with the smell of rotting corpses for days and miles as they traveled in country. It caused him to lose his appetite.
Also, how did his tank crew and that other soldier know exactly where Don and Norman were in the building? I mean, I know Bible saw Don and Norman go in the building, but how did they all know where exactly in the building and what apartment room they would be in?
every time Bible sheads a tear makes me wanna tear up, cuz neither of them wanted to kill people but Bible especially didn't and continued to be in God's word and he really regretted killing people
I love everything about this scene, particularly how the crew’s dirty uniforms and faces contrast against the room they’re in. It’s a really great commentary on the insanity of asking people to “go back to normal” after fighting a war.

0:24 This dude with his top hat and chain
Good observation
Jon Bernthal!!! LoL the MFK'R is so good. So many damn good lines from EVERYBODY in this dinner scene!!!
"$#¡+ Top!!!"
"Preciate it!!!"
FK'N AMAZING!!!🙌🏻
I’da been like’ “Yeaah get the fuck out” right when they walked in why he let that go on for so long 🤣😭😭
I love this scene so much, Don trying to escape from his reality with a pseudo "family", then the crew comes in and breaks that illusion
I never noticed this but at 5:14 Bernthal’s character seems to get visibly uncomfortable at the mention of horses, knowing what storys about to be told. Like he deep down doesnt want to revisit those moments.
This scene is sooo deep… They are soooo far gone due to the horror but yet Pitt’s character keeps them around bc they bring value towards their squad until the very end… after Heath, Shia is my guy and Jon is always a solid man to bat for tbh
Jon’s character was authentic as fuck.. even Shia said that Jon came to act on movie sets and when they said “action” he became something else
that 'no, sir' sounds good
Labeouf is a tremendous actor
Great scene about the complexity of human interactions. At first you’re mad at them for being so crass and animalistic. Then theres the horse story and you get it. They were never given a chance to process their severe stress. The tragedy is the divide between the hardened who feel wronged others didn’t go through what they did, vs the naive who can never relate to them through no fault of their own, just lucky enough to have ended up in better positions.
4:17 Gordo cracking up at Emma’s sobbing kills me💀
Emma's death broke me. Norman had a taste for horror and lost and that broke his innocence for good.
I love the Wii U game titles in the time bar splitter.
Fury has it's faults but this is amazing
A lot of people say that but what were its faults?
@@booradley3400 the biggest for me is the end, without spoiling anything it just went too Hollywood action movie, like the last fight was way too much/too unrealistic. Still a good movie, the ending is stilll good in regards to what happens to the characters and story etc, it just went too far/unrealistic for that final fight.
@@marcd8576I believe it’s similar to the “supposed” true story the movie was based off.At least that’s what I read
The main faults are the combat scenes but the characters are great
It has more faults than anything, it has some decent scenes but the movie as a whole is dog water. Great cast, great sets and props but the plot nose dives after the first act. The endings made me think it was thrown together during a writers strike or something.
연기력이 연출을 발라버린 영화
Yes
Funny when don put the glass back up
Makes me think of Matrix somehow. Sergent wants to take the red pill for one hour, just one hour, just a nice meal. The other ones took the blue pill and they can’t go back, and they hate him for it. They’re all sad because of it. What a movie, absolutly brilliant
Yeah the best scene in this movie
Grady’s reaction when he says “ dom likes horses”😭
people need to watch the deleted scenes of this scene and more. give more context to why some characters act certain way and gives them more an identity than just being soldiers. they give background to each character by sharing stories and makes them look vulnerable- feel believable and alive. go watch the deleted scenes, its like 40minutes long.
at first i hated the partners, then i realized, they love him more than the women ever would
They’re mostly dicks and all crazy
what does this mean nn
SS members loved Hitler more than anyone could, 9/11 terrorists loved Osama more than a woman ever could.
STOP DEFENDING BAS GUYS, many American ww2 heros were raypeists and criminals
@@pepesilvia429ain't u got no friens?
My daughter !!! I feel her energy!!!...I made her in Bosnia I fought for her life..I know who you are that my daughter I'm positive your father sgt first class Sanchez..
And yet, that is the sanist thing to do, but you almost can't allow it, because nothing in the war is sane.
beautiful scene
2:32-2-43 lol
We all had that one friend that crazy even u try to chill them.down
But still crazy 🤣 and funny but always like fuck 🥴😂
It’s an incredible feat for a pair of actors to outshine Brad Pitt in an acting performance, but that’s exactly what Le Beouf and Bernthal did in this film, and I think that’s what Brad Pitt intended as Director.
I like brad pitt is like we in the middle of fkn war this might be my last meal you think im scared to eat that just cuz you licked it
I like how Wardaddy wasn’t really baby sitting Norman in this scene when they were messing w him, like yah he called him out a couple times but didn’t really interfere that much, cuz the only way he would gain their respect is to push back and defend himself and not be babied, War Daddy was a good leader for that cuz at the same time he would know when enough is enough tho
2:20
Don't talk trash about another man's liquor.😂
This is completely pulled out of a Sven Hassel book.
Shia was amazing in this scene, it’s sad how underrated that guy actually is, so much better than Jim Carrey, andrew garfield and others like this
4:50 when you have dinner whit the kids 😂
this may be my favorite movie scene ever
110 heat who is really fightin’
I'm a Yankee and I don't like the way Hollywood portraits Georgians in this scene. People from Georgia are the nicest, most humble people you will ever meet. My gal and I love Georgia. Everytime we hit that state line we get some boiled peanuts and stop at a peach stand. Yeah I've met an asshole from Georgia once, told him my ancestor was buried in Andersonville and his brother was buried at Gettysburg. He said I have an ancestor buried in Elmira and his was brother in buried at Gettysburg too. Imagine that😏
So why did Don only take the new kid there and not his tank crew?
Cause he just wanted a moment of peace and civilized behavior and they came in and just sh-- all over it.
@@cmendr011Why did the story made Don frustrated? I know it's about Red but I don't understand the full story.
Pain comes out cant ignore it
.. listen to that shit😊
4:33 “we weren’t invited…” lol don’t worry Michael, Shia and Jon y’all are always invited to the carne asada 🤙🏽
every time Bible sheads a tear makes me wanna tear up, cuz neither of them wanted to kill people but Bible especially didn't and continued to be in God's word and he really regretted killing people
I love everything about this scene, particularly how the crew’s dirty uniforms and faces contrast against the room they’re in. It’s a really great commentary on the insanity of asking people to “go back to normal” after fighting a war.
Daaamn!
One of the few movies that does not describe US soldiers like captain america.
Grady (Jon Bernthal) looks like Simple Jack. 😂😂
Ramadan karim bro🤝 abdul wahid🛸⌚️
That’s fucking north Georgia right there boi😂
2:26 when bro says donkey as thank you instead of danke then hes seen some real shit.
"Don't touch her." 🥺
It's like Tarantino, but with just a bit of dialogue!
For some reason Hollywood loves casting Jon Bernthal as highly angry or aggressive male characters. Examples: This, Punisher, and Shane.
Why do a lot of people think he slams a knife, it’s his revolver.
8:15 😂😂😂
Alan and chris at wor in France
Correct explination.
I have to have watched this scene at least 20x… i dont know why i am so attracted to it.
I remember!!!! I was your driver u t.c and gunner??I remember
2:33 made me laugh really hard
I like how if i think theyre speaking a different language, I can still tell who speaks reason.
The big question is were they really horses they were shooting or prisoners of war
Very Clever. 5th too.
This scene made me fucking HATE the rest of the tank crew
