What would you say differentiates Drupal from Wordpress? Why choose Drupal? Especially when there are so many more plugins for Wordpress and a bigger community.

That is a hard one.
Drupal 8 is definitely more focus on enterprise projects.
Knowing what which CMS to use should be based on what you want the site to do. Drupal is easy to expand on and follows a very strict coding standard that enforces good practices. WordPress plays a bit looser you can use plugins but have limited customization options. But that also depends on how good you are at coding.
So rather than asking which CMS should you dedicate to, I would ask yourself what do you need the website to do and which CMS can do that best?

Open Source doesn't count unless you know PHP... It only means that the license allows you to modify the software to create an entirely new CMS. It's the same way Apple made their Operating System, Apple took a distribution of Linux and made a few changes and call it their own. No laws broken. Drupal, WP, Jumla are all part of the GNU project, and if Drupal deiced to charge for the CMS their are no rules saying they couldn't. Open Source programs are free in terms of Freedoms to create modify the software code in itself. Unless someone knows PHP or Java Script codeing being Open Source doesn't matter.
