This truly is the best video I've found but wanted to add a few things. It takes a 4mm Allen Wrench to loosen the three screws on the handle and a 5mm Allen Wrench to tighten the bigger screws holding the rack together. Also, after putting the extension on tonight I had problems lining up the middle handle screw and could not for the life of me get it to tighten. I landed up taking the extension back off and found that I hadn't pushed that black square piece in well enough and it then caused the upper handle square thing to extend beyond the top rack. Thus the middle screw hole in the handle never lined up with the screw. It'll make sense if it happens to you!
Accurate very straight forward easy to understand and follow instruction on how to install very detailed. Great job! Clear video and picture! The best so far that i have watched on how to install this add on bike rack. Congratulations keep downloading more informative videos like this. Cheers! Again, thank you!
Thanks for the informative video! Do you have any tips on how to remove the add-on? I’ve removed the handle and all the bolts, but the extension piece isn’t budging. Any advice would be appreciated!
To convert back to 2 bike, literally reverse the steps in the video - except leave the trays and wheel baskets on the add on. This video could have been made even simpler and briefer by skipping the put together of those parts on the add on.
A val8d concern. However, you can get one of the many rear tailight/turn signal bars that you see on lots of yeehaw pickup trucks and attach it to the rack - it plugs right into your hitch plug - problem solved.
I watched the video about installing XTR yesterday and finished installing it today. I am planning to install the add on tomorrow and extremely glad that you made a video for add on. Thank you again! Once the add on is installed what is your experience in taking the setup out from the 2' hitch and putting it back in. It gets really big and heavy after adding the add on and that is one concern i have even before i start the install of the add on.
once fully assembled it is heavy and challenging to move around. it weighs 93 lbs assembled. I found when wheeling it towards the hitch receiver, you have to carefully align the stinger portion with the bottom edge of the receiver. you need to insert slowly and controlled so you don’t accidentally crash it into the back of your car. it takes practice..
I think that installing the bike carrier to a hitch in 2 bike mode is a do-able 1 person task. However, because of the added weight of a 4 bike config, I highly recommend doing it with 2 people - to avoid missing the receiver and dropping 93 pounds on your foot and also to avoid tweaking your back. No shame in it getting an extra pair of hands.
How is everyone storing this rack when it is not mounted on the car. It seems a little wobbly to stand on its own in upright position. So far i am laying it down on the floor. But would like to hear from others too.
Hmmm the ability to add this AND 2 more bikes really confuses me as the original rack says it has a load rating of 120lbs. How can you add on a 20lb rack AND 2 bikes? Thule's load rating doesn't make sense
Hi, I’d suggest contacting Thule customer support for more detailed information. Very useful. Thank you Marlene.
Extremely helpful! Thank you! The packaged instructions are garbage!!
Great vid. It helped.
I am thinking about buying this 2 bike addition. But I’m wondering how hard it is to remove and go back to a 2 bike rack?

Super teacher thanks so much
Help me a lot
Thank you!
Anytime, just trying to help others.
I need to get the extender but worry about my signal lights being obscured when I have 4 bikes on.

You are right. We store the rack standing upright against the wall.

@marleneknebel8666 perfect answer and resource link - in other words, the load capacity increases when the add on is installed.
