You'll be hearing much more about them soon I guess. Crazy ass cars but brilliant at the same time. We have another video of their second model coming next week.
Meridian are a 45 year old British company, very well regarded in the hi-fi world, with some speakers in their range costing tens of thousands. Kudos to them for getting this gig. Great video.
I think other manufacturers in Europe and elsewhere will be left behind in terms of design, tech and performance. China is producing great cars and with different manufacturers. They will probably win the price war too.
Rear is not very good if it is raining. The lift door in the roof would cause the seats to get wet, especially in downpours. The B pillar also gives a blind spot. The three seat movement to access the back would mean the driver would probably need to exit the car for the person to enter the third row. The electric doors could be an issue, too. If the car is too close to another car, would the car restrict opening? Also, in an accident, could the electric door restrict a person's exit?
The good news is you are able to open the doors without opening the roof part so it can still operate in the traditional way. Would be curious to know if it automatically detects rain in that instance. For the 3rd row entrance, only the second row seat moves so the driver doesn't have to get out. The doors have sensors to avoid them hitting another car but you can push them further open as needed with your hand. Also there are physical handles buried in the door pockets in case an accident stops them opening electrically, so it should be fine. Will check that rain thing though.
@@InsideChinaAuto I guess they did take those things into consideration, like the complicated design suggests they should have. It's just a shame that I don't see the fun in having such a great car if you live in any Chinese major cities. I came from a "small" one with just 7 million residents, but the traffic often gets so bad despite some 10 lane roads because everyone drives a car just because they can afford one. Often I got to places faster on my bike than in a car within a 10 km radius.
Every kid in the universe will want to be dropped off at school in this car. Great, clear, informative video. I won't ask what happens if one of the motors goes wrong (there must be about 1000 of them in this car).
I would have loved to have been dropped off in this. Getting picked up in my aunty's metallic turquoise Rover Coupe once was a treat. As for the motors, you just kind of have to hope they're reliable I guess. There's a lot going on.
They get such cool cars and we get diddly squat overpriced giant pickups and SUV garbage here in north America.. then north American manufacturers scritch their heads and wonder why no-ones buying their 8 ton 150k electric hummer.. I'd be pretty happy even if we could get an mg 5 here, but no.. nothing.
I mean the reliability isn’t there with Chinese cars, but people buy Hyundai/Kia for offering more features for the money regardless of reliability. So there technically isn’t any excuse for North America to not get well-equipped cars like this.

They were doing quite well last year, but I've not seen much since. There used to be a premium table that went around each month but haven't seen it for a while.
Wow...well gullwing is ok but during rain ney maybe the door can open only without the gullwing open 4 option.... china can do anything the now a days..hopefully they somehow concentrate on a super quality product if they really want to compete...
Make the doors slide instead of whatever that was. Damn it I made a van again. One day people will realize they just want a van instead of what ever type of car this is.
@@InsideChinaAuto Oh wow. Cool. Nice looking car. Not sure I'd want those doors in a second hand one, but if your're buying to sell in a few years and make it someone else's problem then....why not?
Frameless windows - not the way to go - future wind noise and leaks are inevitable. This is a complicated car for a first effort. Cars are a major purchase for 99% of buyers. It will be interesting to see if fear of "Chinese quality" is an issue in Europe.
It is. To be fair, their team is made up of experts from across industries but it's a hugely ambitious first car, and a hugely impressive one too. As for Europe, I do think it will take some time yet before Europeans trust a Chinese luxury car over their own, more mainstream cars won't have as much of an issue, but given time I'm certain they'll earn a space because they learn and advance very quickly here. It's relentless.
Maybe over time yes, but until a car gets old enough the issue with wind and leaks are pretty slim. There are a lot of cars past and present that rocked frameless windows, whole Tesla lineup are frameless.

hiphi x... car is great.. but you can buy a taycan.. a new one..for the price of a hiphi..
most ev'S are very expensive and if i was a rich man i would not buy one, I would purchase an exciting gas car anytime. so who is buying them ? Many cant hardly afford them, once they realise that insurance will cost 4-5000 dollars , and they cant even park it in their garage because your house insurance will be cancelled because of fire risk. And if you charge at home your charger has to be outside and if you use a fast chrger on trips you will find that it will cost you as much as you filled a gas car but you will be waiting on average hours for a place to charge . The depreciation is extremely costly twice the rate of gas cars. Battery degradation is a problem for resale .many electronic problems. Tires will become no good in half the time compared to ggas car tires because of the great acceleration and the 3000 poung battery. you cant leave it at the airport for a week or 2 week because when you come back your 12volt battery will be dead and the doors wont open and the car wont start.

Indeed. Seems they're well worth the money. I'm not much of a connoisseur of sound systems but they clearly know their stuff.

@stuartkennedy4202 If they keep making cars like this I think you might be right.
Meridian is also in the Jaguar iPace
@@robvanhemert4556 And, I recently discovered, in the KIA EV6 GT
Love it! As a lifelong Lamborghini fan, this is now my favourite car! I mean its super exotic!

Confirmed by HiPhi, there are sensors that stop the gullwing doors opening when it's raining.

Thank you. The car is heading there later this year, early next year I believe. No idea how much it'll cost by the time it gets there though.
Why didn't you have a close up of the rear cargo space when you opened the hatch?
Apologies, I did forget to get that shot. Sometimes they slip through the net.
Hmmm.. think the European legacy makers should pull their fingers out and take some design tips. GORGEOUS. 🥰
Stunning, right? I love how this looks.

Thanks so much Carlos. Great to have you.
Absolutely love this car🔥❤️👍
Me too. This thing is the bomb.
Looks like if you asked someone from 1980 what a 2011 CRV would look like.
Haha, somehow it does. Looks boss though in my opinion.
Does it time travel? I would buy it for the Meridian system, what a great hifi.
That's about the only thing it doesn't do. Is a bloody good sound system though.
Definitely amazing 🎉❤🔥🚒

Thanks very much. Have to get a little creative when filming alone. It's a work in progress.
How can you upload youtube videos from china? Are there restrictions on what you can say?
I use a vpn to upload the videos but there are no restrictions on what I can say.
Is this just a showroom car? Or is it for sale there?
It's genuinely for sale. It's actually one of the best-selling cars over 500,000 RMB, beating most BMW and Mercedes cars.

I guess so. I'm not big on my sound systems knowledge so I'd never heard of them but it's a bloody good system.

Yeah, when it rains only the lower part opens. I checked with HiPhi. And quality is pretty good but they're only going to get better.
HiPhi 👌🏼
Agreed
Like walking into a convertible.
Somehow like that. Which is cool.
Looks like a great car to me. At least it's very original, and not in a bad way.
Original and really funky is their whole ethos really, and the cars are really good to boot.

Think it goes against everything hippies sang for except the colour. 😁

I believe so, yes.

This is definitely a car for the elaborate amongst us. I love it, but I love vans too. At least it doesn't feel like an SUV.
Rear door a total liability in the rain. 😂
Fortunately they thought that through, so when it rains the top part doesn't open, only the normal door.

In Europe, that's anyone's guess but certainly more than here.
