Pitri Paksh Guidelines - Pundit Balmesh Sieunarine

Simple guidelines on how to perform your offerings during Pitri Paksh:
“Om Namo Bhagavate Vaasudevaya"
The tilanjali offerings can be done 1,3,5 or more days and all other offerings including food, etc is to be done on the final day of offerings. If you’re unable to do more than one day then the Amavasya Tithi (New Moon day) which is the final day of the Pitri Paksh is most suitable for offerings.
Plant a kush grass and knot it in a clean spot!
Simple Mantra for Tarpan:
South (Through index finger & Thumb) Pitris - Om Sarva Kul Pitri Tarpanam Mayaa Deeyate Tava Upatish-thataam
or
Om Sarva Kul Pitri Tripyataam
East (Through the finger tips) Devtas -
Om Sarva Devaha Tripyantaam
North (Through center of hands - From the base of the pinky finger) Rishis - Om Sarva Rishihi Tripyantaam
You can also offer a pinda (Made with ground rice, ground Urdi, blacktil, ghee, honey & milk)
Mantra: Om Sarva Kul Pitri Pinda Daanam Mayaa Deeyate Tava Upatish-thataam
Food offering with water, milk or juice:
Sprinkle blacktil on everything and offer chanting:
Om Sarva Kul Pitri Bhojanam Mayaa Deeyate Tava Upatish-thataam
You can light a deeya, offer incense, flowers and pray to Lord Krishna to shower blessings upon your ancestors.
If you wish to do havan I will attach instructions here. Feel free to contact your Pundit if you wish to do a more elaborate form of worship.
Havan:
Light the fire with a piece of camphor, reciting three times: "Om Agni Devataa Bhyo Namah"
Offer a flower on a mango leaf or paan leaf next to the havan kund.
Offer water three times around the havan kund:
Om Shri Achmanam Samarpayami
Place one offering of the sweet rice and ghee mixture into the fire every time 'Swaahaa' is recited for the following
mantras:
Om Prajaapataye Namah Swaahaa
Om Indraaya Namah Swaahaa
Om Agnaye Namah Swaaha
Om Dhanvantar
Om Somaaya Namah Swaahaa
Om Bhook Swaahaa
Om Bhuvah Swaahaa
Om Swah Swaahaa
Om Namo Naaraayanaaya Swaahaa
Om Namo Bhagavate Vaasudevaaya Swaahaa
Om Shree Vishhnave Namah Swaahaa
Om Shree Krishhnaaya Govindaaya Namah Swaaha
Om Shree Keshavaaya Namah Swaahaa
Offer these mantras chanting Swadhaa through index finger and thumb:
Om Chitraguptaaya Namah Swadhaa
Om Yam Devaaya Namah Swadhaa
Om Pitri Devaaya Namah Swadhaa
Offer all remaining sweet rice in the fire next:
Om Sarvam Vai Purna Gwam Swaaha
Offer water three times around the fire.
Fan the smoke in all four directions as well as up and down. Bow to the fire 🙏
Perform aartee to the fire and to Lord Krishna with a lighted camphor.
