The main reason for the valve cap is to protect the valve from mechanical damage or corrosion. If you cut the head off it does not protect the valve any more. In this case you could also screw on permanently a presta/car type adapter, which costs very little and is especially made for that.
@@javierreyes786 the only downside is if you leave the adapter on you can't tighten the small nut on top of the valve - at least not if you don't remove it and put it on again. Otherwise there should be no downside and you could even use a Schrader valve cap on top of the adapter

Read your post and just tested to see if a CO2 cartridge fits in a seat post. It does!! What a great place to store an extra emergency CO2. It does require removing the seat post, but who doesn't travel with a hex key?
LOVE THIS GEM for me flatty. Hate those fuel station pumps. Recently I was a proud cyclist when I used my own pump - whilst using it next to that greedy box. One of them stompy bits that squeaks. Heavy but reliable.
If you have very narrow rims they use presta, since presta only needs a 6,5 mm hole while car valves need a 8,5 mm hole. On wider rims the hole size does not matter.
@@jaysee2213 my mtb (XC) has relatively narrow rims too, and also uses presta. One advantage of presta is the air leakage through the valve itself is lower, since the screw you can tighten puts more pressure on the valve gasket than the spring of a car valve. To pump it I use an adapter, with this it's like a car valve to fill up. On other bikes I also use car valves
There are valve adapters or just carry a pump, then you wouldn't have to walk all the way to the gas stations 😅. Imagine you get a flat in the middle of nowhere. There are really good hand pumps that weigh nothing and can go up to 11 bars for 30 to 50 Euro. If you're paying for the air anyway 😅
Yeah, what’s the name of the device you’re cutting up? I think we called them dust caps, I wonder what its function is? I’m sure cutting the top off won’t change that though, so carry on. 🤣
There are vids where cyclists blow up their expensive carbon rim using a car tyre inflator. Basically the compressor puts out too much air for bike tyres and it pressurises the carbon rim some newer designs have holes to avoid this. Don’t try this unless you know what you doing

Never met a serious road cyclist who doesn't bin the cap immediately. So this brilliant hack actually saves a bit of landfill!
The cap is to protect the tire from the valve when it is packaged
Is there any downside to just leaving the adapter on full time, I guess I never considered doing that

The pressure is not too high, but the high flow rate can blow off a tire. Best to add air a little bit at a time for a bike tire.
Most PPL confuse volume of air with pressure
elevation may make a difference or not idk
