I laughed out loud when he said a newer car might have better engineering to make it last longer. Anyone who knows anything knows the car industry is slipping toward much lower reliability as they are forced to care about mpgs and safety tech. Even Toyota is having reliability issues unheard of in earlier years.

Agreed as new cars are loaded with complex tech. What are the reliability problems of Toyota?

@@midiskylinenewer Corollas have a known issue with the coolant bypass valve, some transmission’s are being replaced due to early failure and front break discs are prone to bending for no reason at all. These are the “biggest” problems as of late, but Toyota just replaces these known issues for the newer and updated parts that according to them have solved the issue. So it’s not bad. And not everyone has gone through these problems. So I’d say it’s still good regular reliability of a toyota.

Tech and MPGs has nothing to do with the reliability issues we have with the trend of new cars. It has everything to do with margins and penny pinching. Engineers are no longer in control of the design process. Accounts have way more leverage than the engineers do these days. We can easily make efficient and safe cars these days but the influence of capitalism is pushing the envelope of reliability at the demise of customer satisfaction but if everyone is moving to this trend, why should manufacturers care?

It’s not straightforward. Generally the newer the better as there are more newer parts overall and therefore less deteriorating parts. However it hugely depends on the condition of the condition of the car. There’s a presumption that the newer car is in better condition. Doesn’t matter even if it’s newer when neglected badly by the last owner. I’ve seen cars way older but well maintained and taken care off that they’re in a better condition than the ones that the newer ones.

If you use your vehicles for a side gig, they might require you to have a vehicle that is less than 10 years old.

Lots of variables but I know age is becoming more of a problem trunks, ac, headlight taillight, little things just constantly go when it's 10+ years
