    The ultimate comic defence.
    1) Micro-chamber Paper - Put the paper on ever single page.
    2) 4mil Mylars & Fullbacks - Two boards per bag
    3) Seal it with 3M tape.
    4) Get another 4mil Mylars that is a size bigger.
    5) Take the first one and slot it into the bigger one.
    6) Repeat till you hit Magazine size, or whichever size big enough for you to slide it in. I know I know, that’s what she said.
    7) Get BCW Archivals that is big enough to fit whatever you have packed.
    8) Finally put your full armour packed comic book into a Toploader.
    9) Get a storage box and put the toploader in it.
    10) Once done, tell BCW to customise a one and only comic bin that is big enough to fit ur comic storage boxes.
    11) By now you have a box within a box, but I’m not done yet.
    12) Buy an electronic safe to store ur comic bin. By now you have a box within a box within a box.. “Boxception”
    13) Please do not report me. Afterall we are team boxanation. Go against us and we will boxify you.
    14) A fellow boxers does not abandon another boxer.
    15) I think I really really need help..
    16) Help with how to marry a box.

    I use egerber's 4 mil mylites bags with their fullback boards. The 4 mil mylite's are sturdy and protective as the 4 mil mylar and 2 mil mylite combos and you can easily fold the tabs back unlike the regular mylars with the rounded tabs. I only use the 4 mil mylars with the rounded tabs that I bring with me when I go to the comic book stores or a comic book conventions to store my new comic books in for protection when I travel. Also, if you're a serious collector, I highly recommend buying comic book box drawers from The Collection Drawer Co. Their dividers can hold comic books up like bookends so they don't slouch which can cause spinal creases.

    So how long I can keep my comic books in polybags before they loose their capabilities? 1 year, 3 years? Thanks

    Hey thanks! I guess I should have added that 4 mil Mylar with fullback boards is a super heavy duty combo, best for really old books or quality books of significance. Otherwise, 2 mil mylars and halfbacks are fine for most comics. Still great protection and takes up less space in da box! Cheers!

    I would recommend using cotton gloves handling the comics while bagging and boarding .

    Most of my comics are from the 70s to current.I love my collection especially my Conan the Barbarian collection, all 275 of them.I have been thinking of putting all my books into Current 2 Mil Mylar bags with full back boards. and then putting them into a Silver age 4 Mil Mylar Bag with or without a full back board.Am I going too far.Your thoughts about this idea please?

    • @PhantaseaTV
      @PhantaseaTV  8 лет назад

      Sounds like a nice collection! I would pursue one of two avenues. Either put them in 2 mil mylar with halfback boards (see video 4 of this series to see how nicely they pack that way), or, if you really want a stiffer, more durable bag, use 4 mil mylar with halfback boards. The 4 mil + fullback examples you see in this video really are only for very old, fragile, or valuable comics that you will pack up once and not really remove too much - if at all. Cheers!

    By the time those bags are affordable, I will be too old or I will finally decide to toss all those comics in the garbage rather then dragging them from home to home.

    Nice video I really appreciate your wisdom. I had a question, now most of my books are silver age. I got for the first time the mylites 2, I know I should have got the 4 had I seen your video prior I would have, making notes for the future. However my question is, I have those and I ordered the fullback boards. Is it okay? I also bought archival double-sided tape, how do you recommend I tape them so that I don't get that bubble of air puffing out on the back? any recommendations or tips I would certainly appreciate it. Have a wonderful day!

      Frank Gee MyLites 2 mil work ok with fullback boards so long as you do not find yourself cramming your books into them. you want the fit to be barely snug but not so tight you have to force them in and out. halfback boards actually are a better fit for 2 mil bags. it keeps them supple yet snug at the same time, but again fullbacks are fine so long as your comics have some spare room especially around the corners. for tape i never use double sided tape because you increase the sticky amount by double and thus double your tape damage risk to your comics. however if you wont be removing them from their bags too much you can use it but use with caution. finally, the bag bubble at top from the flap fold down is unavoidable but can be mitigated with a tight tapedown on the flap, or by using 1 mil mylars folded down and then put into open topped 4 mil archival bags, no backing board required. but the bubble at top as you mentioned is not an issue per se and will be flattened down some if you line your books up fairly snugly in a comic box. in the end, you'll want to CGC your best books anyway. hope this was useful and thanks for watchinf/commenting!

    @ Banesheart: Thank you for your input re: the US dollar. You speak much of paying off ones debts, yet the national debt is skyrocketing, while the Feds keep the markets buoyant with QE1, 2, 3 4 etc. keeping interest rates at 0, perhaps feeling the economy is in fact so fragile, any rise in interest rates will lead to an inflation spiral? Social security is insolvent, Medicare is insolvent, and while the dollar is presently strong, it wasn't long ago the Chinese, who own more than half or our debt in trust, were about to manipulate their own currency while at the same time divest themselves of the dollar. The fact is, we are entering dangerous unprecedented waters with national debt, and I disagree that everyone has gainful employment and that our elected leaders are always abiding by the Constitution. The Middle Class is feeling the squeeze and paying for everything, and aside from government IOU funny money, our government is bankrupt. I hope your more sanguine assessment is more accurate, for our children's sake. BTW thank you for your service!

      Ur right the middle class pays for pretty much everything because most of the rich are greedy and want to be richer so they would rather run the economy into the ground as long as stay wealthy. They don't care

    When you said, "mylar is mylar" you couldn't be mite correct. I recently found out that E. Gerber actually makes all of BCWs Mylars for them. In this regard, people should buy whichever is cheaper. I live near E. Berbers headquarters so I can biy mylars direct and pick up my order to avoid the crazy shipping costs.

    *What size Mylar bags do you recommend to store my collection of sticker albums?*
    *Album size:*
    *24cms х27cms*
    *Softcover album*
    *48 pages*

    lemme ask ya, i have been collecting for years, recently re-aligned my entire collection to have nothing below 8.5, i sold off FF # 1 and batman # 5, wasted a boatload on flapped mylars i had to trash to make the books ez access when going to sell. all my books are in thickest possible acid-free boards and bill cole time-loks. never though about it b4 hand, and i am NOT going to take all my books out and put stress marks in the tops of the mylars, but do you have an opinion about maybe putting the 4 mil heat-sealed mylars inside of less thick, flimsy mylites? i know the reverse is ideal, but also figure basically the same protection, what is your opinion? thxlot, bro.

    • @PhantaseaTV
      @PhantaseaTV  6 лет назад

      mummra7 you can give it a try and let us know how it works. the standard operation though would be to use a 1 mil mylar then a larger 4 mil archival mylar (open top, no flap) over it. then you would not need a backing board or tape, and could see the back cover, too, without having to remove from the bag. thanks for your input. it sounds like you've groomed a nice collection!

    So would a modern comic work just as well in a golden age Mylar bag? Cause people are always saying not to put modern comics in Mylar unless it's a good issue or if I do to only use the ones made for current modern comics.

    • @PhantaseaTV
      @PhantaseaTV  9 лет назад

      OblivionKisame Sure, but for modern age, I recommend 2 mil mylars and halfback boards. And don't get Golden Age size bags - they will be way too big. I would invest in BCW (they are cheaper) 2 mil Mylar bags for current (modern age) comics. You may be paying a little extra for protection, but over time your comics will still be like new and you won't have to worry about bag decomposition. But I will admit, some comics are not worth the extra expense for mylar, or any bag. It just depends on the particular line of comics you are speaking of, and the likelihood of its appreciation or not. Please see video 4 in this series on 2 mil mylar to see how nicely 2 mil can pack. Cheers, and thank you for your service!

    • @OblivionKisame
      @OblivionKisame 9 лет назад

      Thank you and one more question that I have what can you suggest for someone who can't afford the proper protection because their on a very low budget? I ask cause I'm 23 and disabled waiting for ssi and am living off around 100 not including the food card and I want to protect what comics I have till I can start collecting again and the only bags I have for them are the poly bags they were in when I bought them and that's been a quit a few years.

    • @PhantaseaTV
      @PhantaseaTV  9 лет назад

      OblivionKisame I would say, take your 50 best comics, such as #s 1-3 for each series, then you will have to wait until you can afford $20 to buy 50 BCW bags (with boards!) on EBAY. Then just bag your 50 best books and the rest you can do later when you have more money. Most current age books are not critical to bag in mylar right away. Over time, though, just keep picking out your best books for bagging in mylar. It will make a difference in the long term. Or, buy bags one size up from your books, such as silver for current, or golden for silver etc., and double bag them in mylar with the board in the middle. But the best solution for you would be to just purchase the mylar 1 mil bags for a lot cheaper, which will do a good enough job to keep your current age comics clean for a good long while. Whatever the case, you will need boards, too. You can still "collect and protect" while on a shoestring, but start small and target your best books first.

    • @OblivionKisame
      @OblivionKisame 9 лет назад

      So then until I can take ur advice as far as geting the specific bags as of right now is it still safe for comics to still be in relatively old poly bags since they don't last long and they pretty old?

    • @PhantaseaTV
      @PhantaseaTV  7 лет назад

      Current would probably fit into "standard size" bag ok, but pls check the specs first. Also, simply folding the flap in is not a good idea. The flap will be scrunched in and no longer protects as well water leak from above. If you don't like to use tape near your books, you can put the bagged 1 or 2 mil book into the open ended 4 mil archival bag, and then can do without a backing board and thus also be able to view both sides of book without removing. but then i'm pretty sure you'd need a magazine box to accommodate the size. BTW plastic comic boxes rock! check my video on those. peace out.

    Digitaldimsum: Thanks for the hypothesis. But I disagree. If the US dollar tanks, more people will sell, and there will be those who will still buy. For example, a collector in London or Canada would not exchange his money for US dollars, but would still pay good money for a rare and collectible comic. Comics are more like the stock market, if the price drops, investors will buy, thereby buoying the market. Classics like Batman #1 or Action Comics, early Spiderman etc., these will not go down with the dollar, I guarantee. I am recommending people diversify out of currency, and comics are a good pillar in my view. Not to mention super fun to collect.
