  • Labour has reiterated that there will be "no increase" to income tax, national insurance or VAT if the party wins the general election in July.
Shadow paymaster general Jonathan Ashworth told Sky's Kay Burley the three taxes will not go up, despite claims from the Conservatives that they could.

It's important to recognise that Jonathan Ashworth's repeated emphasis on Labour's policies and commitments is aimed at providing clarity and reassurance to voters. Repeating key points ensures that the public understands Labour's stance on crucial issues like job creation, tax policies, and investment in public services. His consistency is not about spreading lies but about reinforcing Labour's commitment to transparent and sustainable policies. By focusing on fully costed plans and rejecting tax increases, Labour is addressing concerns and presenting a clear vision for the future.

It's less about spreading falsehoods and more about ensuring voters clearly understand their vision and commitments.

What have the tories been clear about? Labour's plans are focused on sustainable economic growth through job creation and investments in green energy, rather than raising taxes. @davecross4493 9 дней назад +1

Saying that people are never better off after Labour is not entirely accurate. History shows that Labour has implemented policies leading to significant social and economic improvements. For example, during the last Labour government, the UK experienced sustained economic growth, significant investments in public services, and initiatives like the introduction of the minimum wage.
Labour’s current proposals aim to tackle contemporary issues such as creating 650,000 well-paid jobs and investing in green energy to drive economic growth. They have committed to not increasing income tax, national insurance, VAT, or corporation tax, focusing instead on sustainable investments to boost the economy.
Regarding strikes, Labour’s focus on fair pay and conditions aims to address the root causes of industrial action, potentially reducing the need for strikes over time.
In summary, Labour’s policies aim to create a fairer, more prosperous society without resorting to the higher taxes and economic downturns suggested. Engaging with their specific proposals can provide a clearer picture of their potential positive impact.

1945-1951: The Attlee government established the NHS, which remains a cornerstone of UK healthcare.
1997-2010: Under Tony Blair, the UK saw sustained economic growth, significant investments in education and healthcare, and the introduction of the minimum wage, which helped many low-income workers.
Current Labour proposals are focused on sustainable growth and social justice, aiming to create 650,000 well-paid jobs and invest in green energy without raising key taxes. They aim to tackle the root causes of economic issues, potentially leading to long-term benefits.

Jonathan Ashworth has dedicated his career to addressing issues that affect everyday people, such as job creation and improving healthcare. Dismissing him as delusional overlooks the substantial proposals he brings to the table.
For example, Labour’s plan to create 650,000 well-paid jobs through investment in green energy is a concrete strategy to enhance economic growth and tackle environmental challenges. Ashworth’s focus on better linking social care with the NHS addresses the pressing need for improved healthcare services, something many citizens are currently struggling with.
Suggesting he needs a "real job" ignores the complexity and importance of political work. MPs play a vital role in shaping policies that can lead to significant improvements in people's lives. Instead of dismissing his efforts, it would be more productive to engage with his proposals and consider how they might benefit our country. I think Reeves will be more inclined to use other instruments, like real faithful adherence to established fiscal rules, to get the numbers where they need to be raising taxes. She's a smidge green but far more qualified and cogent than the last three chancellors.
Admittedly, fiscal rules are self-regulating. However, since 1997, the UK adopted a couple of key economic policy rules: 1) the government commits to only borrow to invest and fund current spending -- known as The Golden Rule; and 2) the ratio of net public sector debt to GDP can't exceed 40% of GDP. Source: IFS.
I think Labour's big picture is actually right, but in general, costing manifestos is really a fool's errand. When the rubber hits the road, all bets are off. The Tories will have to spend a boatload more dough on policy programs they've been unwilling to spell out, and Labour will need to cease this game of sacred cow policies, particularly if they intend to renegotiate parts of Brexit, reform capital tax and save the NHS. I think we've seen that it just takes one fiscal shock to sink a bunch of red briefcases full of poor planning.

Claims there will be no new taxes or tax hikes. Yet one of labour's candidates is a director of a group calling for higher taxes on all.
Wes let the cat out of the bag yesterday and labour are trying hard to cover up their plans. He knows what's in the manifesto was small and possibly costed, it's the policies Labour left out which will require more taxes.
I like the Irony of Keir's top aide liking a post which calls for capital gains tax on family homes after their deputy leader dodge the same tax on her home she sold. One rule for them and another for us.
The UK will be fucked in the next 5 years with this brain drain which will happen across all industries. Let's hope there's more than just doctors and nurses crossing the channel on the small boats.

40,000 extra health appointments every week... Sounds great. But where are the Doctors going to be found for those extra appointments. Assuming a Doctor can handle 2 appointments an hour and he/she does a 40 hour week. That's 80 appointments a week for each new Doctor. That's 500 new Doctors required instantly! I believe it takes 5 years to fully train a Doctor, so does that mean that those 40,000 new appointments will actually start in 5 years time?

Reform promised an increase in Tax Threshold from £12,500 to £20,000. Thats £1500 quid in Our Back Pockets. Real terms Every Labour and Tory Voter is Paying £1500 Quid for that Vote. Think i would Rather Keep the £1500 Quid in My Pocket. Working Husband and Wife thats £3,000 Quid a year into the household. Thats your Gas and Electric Bill Paid every month. Labour and Tory party 2p off National Insurance lmao. About £2 Quid a Week.
