- Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer has said he would include himself in the definition of “working people” his party has pledged not to raise taxes on.
The Labour Party’s manifesto says it will not raise taxes on “working people” but Sir Keir has faced questions about what that means in practice.
His party has already ruled out taxes including VAT, income tax and national insurance.
Isabel says: "How will this help keep the housing market moving?"

I saw that labour were intending on changing council tax to a system of paying on the value of the house/ residential propery on the free market. Set by government.
They suggested it to be 5 per cent so people can understand it. I can't see it being so low.... As Labour always like to keep poor people poor. And if they are using this as a main tax to collect extra money for their projects it would have to be a lot higher than 5%.
Labour are saying that it would make people in the north of England be much better off and the bulk of the extra tax from London and the south...
They aren't going to do that

In 1997 I was convinced by Gordon Brown that taxes would not significantly rise and that there would be investment in public services and so voted for New Labour. I regretted my decision when Gordon Brown took money out of my private sector pension schemes.
Eventually Labour spent so much money that they were forced to sell the majority of Britain's gold reserves and also to sell many hospital and school buildings to bankers through public private partnerships. It was the conservative government that needed to buy back all of these buildings. This is why I will be voting Conservative in this election.
At least we did not return to the situation under Labour in the 1970s when the tax rate for the poor was 35% and the tax rate for the rich was 85%. This led to George Harrison to write the song "Mr tax man" to complain about a 95% tax rate which I believe was an exaggeration.
Gordon Brown is still pulling the strings with his undemocratic plans to transfer power away from parliament.

Building new houses is a joke. The developers are building leasehold at inflated prices where you’d end up paying ground rent, service charges etc etc. This is a scam and the practice should have been abolished years ago!!!

ELECTION RULES
Broadcasters have traditionally always abided by the Rules for Elections when discussing a particular constituency and in fairness to all candidates standing, they have, (when discussing one or more of them), always then read out the names of all the other candidates standing in that constituency.
Kevin has done this here with regard to the Clacton constituency, when discussing in only a peripheral manner, Nigel Farage..
The BBC which used to do this many years ago, sometimes showing all the candidates on screen in a list, have suddenly stopped doing this, and now, (in the instances where they discuss constituency candidates), simply state "....there are other candidates running....."
One wonders how long it will be before they are pulled over the coals for this practice...?
