- Rishi Sunak's claims about Labour's tax plans in his TV debate against Keir Starmer are being "looked into" by the UK's statistics watchdog.
The prime minister said that under a Labour government, taxes would rise by £2,000 per household.
Sky's Economics and Data Editor Ed Conway has been looking at the numbers to find out the truth.

I said exactly that to my mother. So it's either Labour have no plan or the Labour plan will cost tax payers 2k more. Which way is it with your lies Rishi?

I’m very confused…. Sunak keeps saying that Labour doesn’t have a plan. However, he somehow knows that the no plan that contains nothing is going to cost us each £2000 a year in increased taxes. Surely if I buy nothing from the shop it costs me nothing….

I remember when Labour were last booted out of office in 2010 and the Labour MP Liam Byrne left a "Sorry there is no money" note on a desk for the incoming Coaiition government.
I'm down by a lot more than 2 grand a year just from truss's insanity. Add in the cost of food, utilities, and so on, and I'm down at least 5 grand a year.
This is shocking by sky. If they have all this information and stats, why do they not call the mp's out in press conferences, etc, which get more air time?

I do a lot of politics analysation and economics. Sky news is not a bad as a source. They try to balance the scales. Judging both parties and getting it to the public. It's just in cases that when there is more issues on one side, they will report it as otherwise it will be leaving information out. The dude is essentially saying, both figures are ridiculous so don't rlly trust em.

The Spectator did the sums for Tory's and they came up with tax rises of £3k. Kay Burly called it a watershed moment when The Spectator turns on the Torys
What's hilarious is that in order to win a debate - Sunak has set of a row about how honest he is, a row that will last for longer than an evening and have a lot more people involved in the debate.

It annoys me that no one picks up that the fact that the cutting of NI is done so pensioners get no tax cut. This is a way of clawing back pension raises. Soon taxes will rise and the government’s will say that overall taxes are reduced because of N I, but pensioner’s will be far worse off,wake up people.

During this period, Scotland provided the uk treasury with £762.3 million and received back just £211m or 27.%. Converted from 1911 prices, this is equivalent to 2.5 billion a year , more than the £1.5 billion oil rich Scotland sent to Westminster from 1979-97.
The uk government ceased publication when Ireland became independent, not wanting Scotland to get any ideas.
