I never played the original, but man did I have fun with what I was playing in the remake.
As someone who played the original but not the remake... Honestly, that just makes me happy.
I was in elementary school and was playing it on the SNES in the morning when I finally beat it. The end credits are loooooong. And my mom let me watch the entire thing and be late to school because she knew it was important to me. That's still a core memory I have 25 years later.
Same here never played the OG but I am loving playing this game on my switch.
@@AndrewThoesenOne day a week my high school had a later start time and I’d walk over to my friend’s house to hang out in the morning and get a ride with him when it was time to go.
I watched him beat Super Metroid for the first time on one of those mornings. Holy sh*% that was so hype. I’m never going to forget that.
after playing through the original years ago and currently playing through the entirity of the remake, they're both a real privilege to play through with the remake having a few nice added bonuses.
Every single developer who wants to remake a game needs to take notes from Super Mario RPG.
You're not wrong. Seriously one of the best remakes of a 16 bit game I've ever seen.
Idkncould added some stuff
What? You didn't like the mess that was FF7 remake?
I'd like to point them out into Chrono Triggers direction
@@xieulongI don’t even consider VIIR a remake.
To be fair to Culex, "Just a straight up FF boss" is EXACTLY what the developers were shooting for.
In the 90s. And agains in the 20s.
4:53 This joke right here had to be the funniest in the whole skit.
Nostalgia truly is one hell of a drug.
After Cloud and Sephiroth were allowed to be in smash, Keeping out Geno is just a damn mighty Sin.
Square Enix is very picky over what they allow. Remember the fight for music for the characters.
I never got to I play this as a kid. I now understand why Geno should be in Smash. Also, Mallow is a pretty underrated party member.
Mallow would be the better Smash character given the variety of attacks he uses. Geno would just be a Samus clone.
Mallow gets some really hefty buffs in the Remake. Usable character in both versions, but downright broken in the Remake.
@@eudaimonistic I wouldn't say broken. Towards the late game alot of enemies had lightning resistance and magic defense. And peach ended up filling the role of a healer. He was still good, just not overpowered, even if you specced him entirely for magic attack. Everyone played their roles well honestly
I already knew what a fan-favorite Geno was, but this remake made me give more respect for Mallow. He's such a powerful spellcaster who'd be just as fun to play in Smash as Geno. If not more so.
I grew up into an adult who loves strategic RPGs above all other games, yet I somehow missed them all as a child.
Envy Nostalgia.
2023 really was a year of amazing remakes.
I lost it at "The Wario you ordered from Wish" and "Rule 34 Iago!!" 😂😂😂
Still can't believe why Geno hasn't appeared in another Mario game. Hope I live to see that happen
Maybe because square Enix owns geno.
Because they were the ones who created super mario rpg originally with nintendo on the snes.
Then they became enemys for a while with square Enix Not wanting to have to do anything with nintendo anymore.
However it Seems like the issues they had with each other are gone.
Except when he made a cameo in Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga just to explain a damn minigame
@@JGr2000and He was taken out of the remake Version of that game.
I remember hearing that Square and Nintendo own the rights to Geno jointly, making it damn near impossible to agree on getting him into anything.
@@maelwys5432 Yeah, that's a thing that has plagued more than one Japanese IP. The joint ownership so nobody can use it, I mean.
This game defined my childhood. I was completely obsessed. But I was the only kid I knew who played it. I'm glad I'm seeing all these people who also played it as kids and all of these people who are getting to enjoy it for the first time.
Weird how many kids thought I made this game up, like it just disappeared after a while.
This game got so many people into RPGs! It was actually Earthbound for me, but this one was an insta-fav when it came out! I was not a fan of traditional turn-based RPGs until those two games. This is still one that I like to revisit and play through from time to time. I haven’t got to play this new version yet but it looks great!
@@mootbooxle I still need to play Earthbound. It sounds so fun.
edit: I like going back to play the original Super Mario RPG too. I just played through the remake and it was a lot of fun. All of the puzzles in Bowser's Keep actually work smoothly now. Plus there are bonus boss fights when you finish the game. I've only done the first two so far, but I like the additions.
@@alexanderjungroth7848 that’s cool, I didn’t know they added some stuff. Earthbound is a great game, I still love it! It’s like an old favorite movie that you just re watch for comfort. You know every line, but still laugh at the jokes. :)
In honor of JoCat: "Fireball, only fireball, just fireball."
I loved the original version on SNES ... hands down top 5 games from the 90's
"Punishing your piss poor timing" 😂😂 I felt that.
+ the 'je ne sais quoi' part. In the original, I had no idea when to push the button at the right time...
Man,
I really miss Geno.
He has always been one of my favorite Super Mario characters.
I came from the generation that kept renting the same game every weekend from Blockbuster. This was something our generation needed.
If you lived in a small Bible town like mine that ment very few games to rent so most of the time all the good ones where gone when you finally made it to the rental store.
I’m surprised yall didn’t mention the power ranger boss in the staring section. This takes me back to a simpler time. This game was great.
You mean the "Ax-em Rangers?" 😂
@@jaimereupert4247haha. I figured they would have changed the name like they do lol. That game was all over the place and incredible
Those Axem Rangers were probably the most 1990s thing about this game.
I actually could never get into the original Super Mario RPG but the remake has somehow captured my attention. So in my case, nostalgia isn’t really playing into it.
Same
Same
Movement in the original seemed kinda slow to me compared to Paper Mario and Mario and Luigi games. I didn't get very far in it because of that. I might give the remake a shot and see if I like it better. It looks pretty good from the footage I've seen.
Did you have JRPG experience before hand?
Because when I played on the SNES I didn't get it honestly, but I got it later again and after having played FF VII and IX and then going back to IV and VI (2 and 3 at the time), I got it better and loved it. I love this remake even, but I do have nostalgia in a way.
I'm gonna laugh my butt off when Mallow gets into the next Smash and Geno doesn't.
I can see one or the other being a decent assist trophy.
Please say “Behold the power of post-game content!”
Oh that's a good one. 😂
1:17 Nintendo have had plenty of decent collabs like this, especially ones like the ones with Tecmo Koei (Pokemon Conquest, Hyrule Warriors, etc) and Bandai Namco (Pokken, etc).
I'm shocked they didn't make a joke on how the subtitle "Legend of the Seven Stars" was dropped from the name of the game.
I always thought it was the other part of the name that should have been dropped. 🤷🏾♂️
I really felt that dozens of us at the end lol. I’ve wanted Geno in smash for as long as I can remember.
1:28 Imagine if Nintendo owned the characters made for Mario RPG and we had Mallow interacting with the Rabbids.
nostalgia is part of life, like a midlife crisis.
Super Mario RPG is one of the few remakes I enjoy more than the original. One can hope that Chrono Trigger finally gets ported onto the Switch by year end...
I've been playing the ROM hack Chrono Trigger Crimson Echoes it's an unofficial sequel
No, we don't need yet another Chrono Trigger port since Square-Enix (mostly the Enix side) has been completely disingenuous on actually treating CT right. We need a proper Chrono Trigger sequel (i.e. Chrono Break/Brake) that _properly_ follows the characters and events of Trigger that people _actually_ wanted to see/play through rather than the extremely loose affiliation the Radical Dreamers reskin that was Chrono Cross did as an afterthought.
@@apollolux I didn't have a PlayStation as a kid so I never got around to playing Chrono Cross. I've heard mixed things about Radical Dreamers but I'll check it out someday. Having Chrono Trigger and Super Mario RPG on the same system again is more likely to happen. I wouldn't say no to a sequel, but not getting my hopes up for it.
@@Tysonator1000 If you're interested in Radical Dreamers and/or Chrono Cross, the 2023 combo release that remastered Cross and gave Dreamers an official English translation is available on Switch. The only reason I never chose to pick it up myself is because I poured over a hundred plus hours into the original Cross over at least five full playthroughs for all the characters (plus a few others for all the endings) and I don't see myself doing that again for the remaster. As for Trigger, the definitive version is arguably the DS version if one has a reliable way to play it cleanly and accurately with the original SNES version in a close second, but the Steam version is arguably the more "accessible" version even though it's based on the objectively inferior iOS/Android port.
@@apollolux I misplaced my DS cartridge a few years ago. Odds are my former roommate held onto it, like he did with my GameCube. 🙄 I'd rather have it on Switch than Steam. Heard the mobile port is awful. I'm catching up on my backlog of games before I purchase Chrono Cross.
Fungal Fantasy almost seems like a perfect name for this game.
Say: "Your powers are useless on me, you silly-billy."
*has a brain aneurysm*
Please do an honest trailer for the Sly Cooper series.
Valentina being called “Rule 34 Iago” is way on the nose there…
Just finished Mario RPG and it was a whole lot of fun. The platforming and beanstalk parts were kinda difficult but other than that I'd play this game again.
Now to defeat the second round of Culex...
Even if you never played it there is enough footage out there to do an honest trailer for the last 5 years of the biggest gaming scam ever. The Day Before
Bailey, I love your work! ❤ Happy New Year!
they mentioned and showed my boy, the secret final boss. I am happy. Many thanks for this honest trailer^^.
That VI line hit a little to hard at the end
How about one of those Honest Trailers for Robocop: Rogue City
Finally got to playing and beat Culex 3D just yesterday. A really great remake that added just enough extras without going overboard and making it an enjoyable romp to re-tread. It helps it's not very long either, so it completed my RPG needs actually as well.
Happy new year! Love your content 😊😊😊❤❤❤
3:13 that might be the most appropriate use of "je ne s'ais quios" I've ever heard.
They SHOULD do a remake of Final Fantasy 6! I know it got remastered several times, but I want them to keep doing it until it looks like a damn Studio Ghibli movie.
fungal fantasy 🤣🤣🤣 oh that one really got me
Thank you for waiting until after I got my copy for Christmas to do this trailer.
Literally playing it as I watch.
The characters ourside of those that appeared in Mario games were made by Squaresoft and are now owned by SquareEnix. This created some fighting on that end. Especially when Paper Mario was originally titled Super Mario RPG 2 during the start of the project. Geno has had some minor appearances since along with a few others, but that is about it. I am mostly surprised the last Smash did not fully get the character as they added his outfit, and Square characters made it in.
Do a Honest Game Trailer for Hyperdimension Neptunia

Okay let's say an honest trailer about old school arcades
next to do the legend of heroes series!!!(or cut it to 4 pieces trails in the sky 1-3 ,trails into azure and trails into zero , trails of cold steel and finally trails in the black and trails in the black 2: crimson sin.
Epic Voice Guy, Please say "Steal anything that's not nailed down; That'll be sure to impress your hosts"
Please say “requiescat in pace.”
Great trailer for an amazing game. Both the remake and the original are fondly remembered.
Thank you for making this! I absolutely loved it! I'm part of the dozens! 😄💙
Give me the chills with the line "Welcome to PlayPaintChill. You just gained honor +2 for following us ! ".
Say "You can pick your friends and you can pick your nose, but you can't pick your friends nose."
How about saying "If you saw the face behind this 'epic voice', the world will fall into total chaos"
Crono trigger reference on point !
I had the original snes version and it turned out to be an amazing rpg that happened to use mario characters.
FFVI can hold it's Chocobos for just a bit. The world needs a 2D/HD reimagining of Chrono Trigger! Also... Prison Shank Clippy. effing lol
I remember loving this classic~
Please do Star Ocean 2 R
Where’s the honest game trailer for today?
This looks awesome. I loved the 16 bit, orginal.
Just finished this game with the secret FF boss. Loved it to the end. I hope they do a sequel to this game with Geno and Mallow along with new characters. It honestly deserves it
Nostalgia… from reading about it being cancelled 25 years ago and never getting that release here in Europe.
It's funny they mentioned Sea of Stars. I've been playing it and it's been giving me Mario vibes.
❤❤ the new gang that writes the trailers!
I still have my complete box SNES version that I used to play. It looks SO good next to my new Switch ver/
Mario RPG is the sole reason I started hitting buttons in every game as if it could be a timed it
They gave that one boss jiggle animation 😂
"Ho-shi" has me in tears 😭
I like how the internet is like a portal to a nerd realm I would not know otherwise
Please say: "Let's get this show on the road!"
I’d love an FF6 remake! Been asking for it forever. Best FF game ever. Smrpg is such a great game though, i also got a LOT better since the original at stuff… well except for the barrel jumping thing. My instinct was to jump OVER the barrels not ON the barrels 😂. Most of the other mini games i did just fine at. And in general i found smrpg pretty easy and short compared to how I remember it. Still love the game though! I will say that the remake’s extra bosses are hard af though!
5:19
"Ho-Shi"
Who would've thought?🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
Please say: "new year, same ol delays"
Please do the Ace Combat series. I can't be the only one who wants it.
5:00 That's that Good Stuff!
1:49 Like a CLOUD with an identity crisis??? BRO!!
Please do a Dwarf Fortress Honest Game Trailer to celebrate the new year!
Aw, but Adventure Mode isn't out yet for Steam.
I think I unironically want a Mario game based on the live action movie with Dennis Hopper and as much cast as possible doing voiceovers! 2d or 3d, pick your poisom, but I'D play either!!!
Geno from SMRPG and Issac from Golden Sun have been my dream smash players since the melee days 😭
Please say: There's not toilet paper? time to sacrifice the necktie...
"And the raised eyebrows from gamers the first time they saw Bowser's middle claw victory pose from the the SNES version. . .which was replaced in later versions because Nintendo of America were and still are giant sissies."
I was so happy when this game was announced and so happy to play it again. My only complaint was how easy the game is due to the timed attack chains
This whole vid was great. But Fungal Fantasy was next level. 😂
Booster is NEVER Wario from Wish. How dare you! He's just a train and tower enthusiast from a long line of Sniff-it Employers.
Also, as for a FF6 remake, I just want to see Sabin suplex the Ghost Train with modern graphics. Come on Sqaure!
I just got this game, can't wait to pop it in!
Say: "No. You can't haz cheezeburger. So stop asking. It's a stupid meme anyway."
Please say, "I have seen the end, and its pink, puffy, and named Kirby!"
Hopefully you'll do: Honest Game Trailers | The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC for Scarlet and Violet
Somehow it's comforting that you, too, are visiting a therapist!
I wish hoping on release of this we would hear they were working on a part 2
"Now just remake FFVI.." "Don't you put that evil on me Ricky Bobby!"
Clippy the Paperclip as a helpful murder shiv is funny XP
Please say: "I can't wait for Daedelic's Tom Bombadil game!"
I also dream of a FF6 remake, Epic Voice Guy. We will fight for it or die waiting!
Wish Wario lmaoooo cmon, dont do my boi like that 😂
The game rename was too perfect
happy new year! can y'all do bomb rush cyberfunk?
If nostalgia ISN'T a drug, how come all entertainment industries are hopelessly addicted, with cinema/streaming being so very close to OD ?
I'm excited that honest trailers guy is a FFVI fan too...
Nintendo released 3 full remakes this year, and. They. SLAPPED!!!!!! Metroid Prime Remaster, Mario RPG, and Kirby’s return to dreamland deluxe are all textbook examples on how to make a remake!!!!!
