  • Porsche Centre Portsmouth invited me to the unveiling of the new Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo and I thought you guys would like to come along. The Panamera is a superb car anyway and I think this estate/shootingbrake version is actually better looking than the standard car.
    Practicality meets Porsche sports car performance. I can't wait to drive it and will be bringing you a full road test in the very near future.

    The fact that you have so much in common with myself in view of cars is scary Peter. You are gifted in that you are invited to functional events, very much in awe of you fella. Keep up what you do. I look forward to the day I am lucky enough to meet and say hello.

    Hey, 1 minute 55, did I hear the presenter say 'shooting brake'? That's a blast from the past. Haven't heard that name used for an estate car for years. Love it. I hope they bring it back. Very beautiful car Peter. Love Porsche. Jon.

    That blue one looked lovely. Porsche are really making a wide range of models now to get people into the brand. Would I take one over a Cayenne ?, probably not, but this is very tempting. So are you going to go for the same review format when you get your hands on the demonstrator as you did for the RS5 ?

    • @PetrolPed

      I'd love to but it depends how long I can get it for.

    Panemera as a second car (for the missus), yes please.
    Maybe in a couple of years. I've got my Audi SQ7 to contend with first.

    Nice insight Peter. Shame the guy presenting from Porsche in the first part of the video was super dull at reading his script, reckon you should have got that gig, much better delivery and passion for sure! Roll on the demonstrator...

    I have say Im not too fond of the original Panamera, but the Sport Turismo is a beautiful car. That rear end is gorgeous. Forgive my ignorance but what is the difference between a Estate and a Shooting Brake? I seem to recall reading that the Shooting Brake name goes back to the 19th century and was in reference to a 2 wheeled cart used by hunters. Is there a difference between a Estate and a Shooting Brake or is it just a umbrella term for what we call over here across the pond, a station wagon?

    • @PetrolPed
      @PetrolPed  6 лет назад

      Over here the most common word used for this style of car is 'estate'. If you go back 20-30 years 'shooting brake' was used by a few manufacturers but fell out of favour. So they basically mean the same thing. You are quite right about the origin. It a British word dating from the 19th century describing a vehicle used to take people shooting.

    Love the Sport Turismo design. But struggling to see why - if you want space for long family travel, good cruising in all weathers.. why you would go for the Cayenne? Apart from the stying, this (imo) has no practical advantages over a Cayenne.

    • @stubones
      @stubones 6 лет назад

      It has no practical (or performance) advantage over an RS6, which can be bought for 2/3rds the money....

    I'm so lusting forward to seeing the review this one Peter. Shooting brake sounds a bit too American for me. Shame the guy dressed in the country threads was so boring to listen to, a bit more enthusiasm on his part was much needed. The workshop was, oh yes please !!
    See you soon.
    Cheers,
    Geof

    • @PetrolPed
      @PetrolPed  6 лет назад +1

      It should be a great drive. I think 'shootingbrake' originates this side of the pond.

  • @stubones
    @stubones 6 лет назад +1

    As much as I love the idea of owning this car, I can't see how anyone would benefit from spending 50% more to own this over an RS6 performance, which has more power and more boot space. The new version of the RS6 will be even more powerful, will feature Audi's latest technology, interior and still undercut the Porsche massively. I get that the car is aimed at people who have money to burn and would take the Porsche brand over Audi, but it is literally just spending money for the sake of it. I still want one :)

    • @PetrolPed
      @PetrolPed  6 лет назад

      Or your could buy a Ferrari GTC4 Lusso which does the same job but is twice the price of the Porsche !

      come on, gtc4 is much more advanced from the rs7 / panamera.

    The speaker at the event has no charisma. Mono tone reading from the dull literature! At 0:58 is that what a modern porsche owner looks like? I dont want to be mean but from the footage it looked like there were no "cool" or stylish people there. I think a lot of customers these days are antisocial car nerds that think a fun car will make them look like a fun person. The amount of people wearing shooting jackets that don't shoot and specific running shoes that dont run, they want a porsche to finish the facade to make them appear to be interesting people. I love the marque but its a bit depressing. Great video and very informative, Im interested how it compares to a macan. Im surprised they didn't supersede the panamera with the macan.

    • @PetrolPed

    PP - If you... Sorry.... WHEN you review the Sport Turismo, please, please make it the Turbo and not some dull (By comparison only) diesel.
    They are lovely cars though. Porsche are also more than just looks and go. They have reliability too. I recall watching some Yanks in the 911 Turbo or Turbo S and they did 50 launch controls, one after another without any hitch or hiccup what so ever. Imagine trying to do that in another make of car!!
    Now the Turismo is out, it begs the question.
    Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo Turbo.
    or
    Mercedes Benz E63S Estate.
    3.6 v 3.4secs to 60... Or just buy one of each!!

    • @PetrolPed
      @PetrolPed  6 лет назад +1

      I'll see what I can do. When I drove the new Panamera it was the 4S Diesel and I have to say it was SUPERB !

      Generally speaking, any Porsche is either good or going on great. But the Turbos. Well.... What can you say? High time to self Catheterise yourself before you get into a Turbo Porsche because you know, as soon as someone floors the go faster pedal, little pit of pee is bound to come out.

  • @ginggur17

    Still not sure of them. Been in one as a passenger, yes, very nice, but when I look at the ‘rugged’ stance of the Rangie Vogue, I kinda think yeah, have it for off road fun and the RS for “ holy poop, I’ve just left my kidneys at the traffic lights”!
