    I did the 2nd mod and while it sounded amazing, I realized a few keys weren't registering every keypress, I pulled my switches and used some tweezers to take the pin openings and create slightly larger holes closer to the size of the ones created by the plastic pegs and now have absolutely no issues. I think if the metal pegs of the switches are touching the foam it can potentially cause an issue, but just my experience. Just wanted to share in case anyone had a similar occurrence. Thanks for the video, so glad I saved that PE foam bag my board came in.

      Honestly:
      The more I see of this so called "hobby" the more idiotic it seems.
      Not only does this community seem to think of things that would have been a quality issue 10 years ago as a feature, their reasoning for rating certain things are just batshot crazy for any normal person.
      On top of that they are paying ungodly amounts of money for shit that they only heard was great but never compared....

    i just modded my gmmk pro(alu plate w/alpacas L+F) less than 30 mins ago. still kinda hesitant to saw off the curved/bent part of the plate that connects to the pcb. hotswap sockets on my gmmk pro seem loose. not as tight as the one on my kbd67 lite r3 or nk65 ee(which, by the way, i followed your stage 3 mod, i love it). even if the hotswap sockets aren't a snug fit, i dont have any non-responsive switch issue. didn't have enough of kbdfans gaskets left, still waiting on my order. i doubled up the gasket w/ what my board came with, it still feels stiffer than that of kbdfans. i followed everything you did except for the sawing parts and swapping out the gaskets. i love your videos man. your actually one of the reviewers/modders i listen to and agrre with a lot of things you do/say. keeb it up!

    the standoffs btw, do not change the flex at all, if you notice they are screwed at the plate, and just inserted into the pcb, means when you flex the pcb in to the keyboard, the standofs would just sort of move out of the pcb, those standoffs are for when you remove the switches to not bend the plate outwards

    Free 5Head tip:
    If you want to do the flexible mod but dont have thicker gasket strips just open your GMMK Pro box and use the layer of foam inside the packaging. The foam is about 1.5mm thick and is very close to what was used in this video in terms of thickness and density. just cut the foam into strips of the right size!

    Interesting modifications. I'll have to look into them. All I did was put a 2 more layers of the stock gaskets in actually the same locations you put them, replaced the case foam with a layer of thinsulate, and then screwed the case just tight enough to close, but maintain about that same 1mm space. Plenty of flex, but polycarb plate. I'm curious about the sound mod, but I built this thing with silent switches as an office board, so I prioritized feel for my mods. Might try that foam layer in other boards, like my daily driver at home.

    Hey friend 👋 you should go to green door geek and get the POM GMMK pro plate or order one of the FR4 plates in sure they are good too! And maybe if you want a really nice sounding GMMK pro that’s a little more thocc put some ink black v2s in there!!
    I saved my GMMK pro, cuz I hated it and really didn’t like their switches…. Plus the board was so stiff. But putting the Pom plate with flex cuts as well as the inks make for a really really enjoyable typing experience! I actually put it back into rotation on my main PC over some of my other favorite boards atm…
    I actually used the case foam and the plate foam provided from Glorious and I did end up taping the back of the PCB just cuz it always helps the sound a bit

    • @Keybored
      @Keybored  3 года назад

      Hi strykr360! Thank you for that sentiment! There is a vendor in Canada called hypekeyboards that does make some nice FR4 plates! They even have an FR4 with flex cuts for many stiffer gasket mount keyboards, like the D65 and so on.

      @strykr360 3 года назад

      @@Keybored When I bought my D65 from KBD fans, I sprang for the FR4 option, but i have to say that the plate was freaking really tight. I used lavender switches on that build, and its probably one of my favorite switches, but it would take an act of congress to get those keys out of that plate in tact. I had a few that were installed with bent pins, and when I tried to pull them out, they were mangled.

    Hi Scott, great video as always. I'm also about to do the PE foam mod for a RUclips video. I've read that there is concern with this kind of foam and ESD or electrostatic discharge. I don't know what kind of engineering degree you have but maybe you can shed some more light on this (my degree is Computer Engineering but I still don't know lol)? I've already ordered some anti-static PE foam and I've read that the PE foam in the Jelly Epoch also has some kind of ESD protection. I've read reports of issues such as switches failing to respond or double inputting, as well as one person having their side lights turn off after plugging in some speakers. I'm not sure if these could be traced back to ESD.

      Haha... I think it's magic. I feel the pe foam being as bouncy as it is, helps to take the force of the switch bottom out and reflect it back up through the switch housing. The plate then takes it and amps it up, and the switch and keycaps do the same... Then you get magic

    I’m not sure I understand this whole premise. Criticizing the lack of Audible feedback due to the rigidity seems silly to me. If you are chasing audible feed back, why not use Box Jades or Box pinks??
    Also if you want more springiness perhaps invest in different heavier switches.
    For my GMMK Pro I actually put a ton of flex tape on the back and betwee. The plates because I wanted to make it more rigid by removing as much space to flex as possible, while still having some give. This way you get to enjoy the feeling of the switches you are using, and adjust your preferences from there rather than trying to make all sorts of micro adjustments inside…
