      @@Keybored A thing I've been wondering -- is there much difference between the adhesive PE/EVA switch pads/tripods and the sheet foam of the same material? I will say that your comparison here matches what I've heard using the switch pads; but because they're adhesive to the PCB, I can't easily swap between the pads and a fuller sheet of foam.
      My hypothesis is... no difference.

    The sound profile reminds me of the Simpler60, a more budget friendly 60% keyboard which also has a layer of EVA foam over the PCB. The Hope75 is such a good looking board and I actually think that the price is fair for what you are getting.

    Thanks for taking such an in-depth look at this keyboard. I watched Alexotos's build stream of the Hope75X and thought the board seemed a bit meh, but seeing your build of the Hope75S in the various differerent configs makes the board seem much more promising. It'll be interesting to see how it stacks up against the Mode Sonnet.

    • @Keybored
      @Keybored  2 года назад +5

      Alex is a well respected builder so his content is top notch. What's interesting about this hope series is its dependence on the foam. Without it, it's pretty weak. With it however, it sounds pretty good. Take it for what it's worth! Some hate boards that depend on foam, others don't care as much so ymmv!

    • @ijmcd
      @ijmcd 2 года назад

      @@Keybored Yes, Alex's content is great and I'm definitely not trying to throw any shade. In a stream it's not going to be feasible to build the board in lots and lots of different configurations as you have in your RUclips video, hence the value of watching a few different reviews of any new keyboard.

  • @Caution40404

    Wonderful video as always! Really enjoyed the content. I use Poron switch pads from KPrepublic and I always wondered how EVA compares to it.
    I tested with Poron vs. without. Poron basically makes the stock sound more pronounced and more crisp with GREAT bottom-out hand feel on the switch. It also gets rid of the dull/empty switch sounds and turns them into more crisp. I don't really know how to describe it any better.

    How do you think these kinds of foam compared to the silicone dampener?

  • @moss_effect
    @moss_effect 2 года назад

    Wow the explanation is super interesting! I wonder if you could record the stock sound of a keyboard, fft it, use the data from that study to do a weighted filter based on frequency, then the sound you fft back would reproduce that 'marble' pop we hear irl.

    • @Keybored
      @Keybored  2 года назад

      That would be an interesting experiment!

    So PE foam will scoop the mid frequency. Nice finding

  • @StaticNebula26

    Hi, i don't mean to be a buzzkill but the polyethylene foam from the research paper was 1-2 inches or 25.4-50.8 mm thick.
    As you mentioned in another comment's replies, the pe foam in the board was (you assume) 0.2mm thick or roughly 127x thinner than the thinnest foam used in the paper. I'm not an expert but I'm pretty sure thats over-extrapolating the data a fair bit. Maybe the data still holds up at that scale but I would honestly doubt that. I hope you see this comment so you can address this issue in some way, even if to retort it. Thanks! :)

    @8:04 I see screws in the PCB, are those for standoffs for the PCB/Plate?

    Where can I buy appropriate PE and EVA foams for keyboards so I can do actual CUSTOM work?

  • @noanimal

    I don’t think this keyboard really can compare to the 7v apart from the aesthetics. 7v can be used plateless, is a leaf spring mount, and most importantly, DOESN’T NEED FOAM. Still the 7v is one of my favorite boards in my collection even after owning boards such as the Mr Suit, Vega, and F1-8x.

      Yup looks like the 7V

    I’m waiting for delivery of the X with an FR4 plate
    I’m still going to use it with no PE foam and no plate foam as IMO is cheapen’s the sound a bit.
    I’m planning to use Just the case foam and I bought some UHMW tape to tape up all the flex cuts in both the PCB and plate
    HOPEfully it works 😂 and I get some clack out of it

      Hey, how are you enjoying your Hope75X? Any problems with the strength of the magnetic feet? I also heard about an issue with some of the screws of the top case interfering with some switches. Did you also run into that?

    • @0Metatron
      @0Metatron Год назад

      @@ac_4466 I never got it in the end.
      A lot of them came through with very bad QC.
      A large percentage of them had no inside bevels at all and Velocifier just sent them through anyway!!
      I will never trust that company again!
      It’s clear that they are just pumping out model after model with only profit in mind.
      Luckily my vendor was gracious enough to warn me and ask me if I wanted a refund before they sent it out which I gladly took and bought a TGR Tomo from the same vendor instead which I’m very happy with

    EVA=creamy
