  • Parents and children are surprised and disappointed to learn that when it comes to IBS, there’s just not a pill for that.
Most IBS medications are aimed at managing symptoms. Unfortunately, simply managing symptoms does not eliminate the problem. But it can help! And different treatment approaches help in different ways.

    -- Managing IBS Symptoms --
The most common symptoms of IBS include abdominal pain and cramping,
gassiness, diarrhea, or constipation. Kids with IBS often have nausea, bloating, heartburn, and other symptoms as well.
Some over-the-counter and prescription medications are used to alleviate these symptoms. For example, imodium is often recommended for diarrhea and milk of magnesia or Miralax are given for constipation.
    -- The Gut-Brain Axis --
Because IBS is thought to be affected by the gut-brain axis, other treatments can be effective. Some patients benefit from antidepressant medication to mediate the role of the nervous system in the IBS symptoms. Likewise, antibiotic can help treat the bacterial overgrowth and dysbiosis in the gut, and achieve IBS relief from this approach.
    -- Non-Medication Treatments --
So is medicine the best approach? Not always.
Most medications for IBS help relieve the symptoms, but don’t necessarily eliminate flare ups. Moreover, medicines have side effects; from dry mouth, to blurred vision, worsened constipation, and even pancreatitis. And for many patients drugs just don’t adequately relieve their symptoms.
Fortunately, there are other non-medication options that help many people relieve their IBS. Natural fiber supplements from psyllium can help many people with constipation. And a soluble fiber supplement may help some people with diarrhea. And then there are probiotics - an emerging field of health and wellness, aimed at restoring and balancing the natural microbiome of the human body.
Additionally, many people with IBS experience decreased symptoms from stress management techniques, acupuncture, improving their sleep schedule, exercising regularly, and drinking plenty of water.
-- Taking Control of Your IBS --
One of the best ways to actively take control of your IBS is through dietary changes. We know that up to 70% percent of IBS cases are food related and we even know the foods that trigger IBS flare ups: They’re those FODMAPs I’m always talking about.
    - What Are FODMAPs? -
FODMAPs is an acronym standing for: Fermentable, Oligo-, Di-, Mono-saccharides, and Polyols.
These are types of carbohydrates, certain starches and sugars, that are fermented when we digest them. This causes gas and belching, stomach cramps and bloating, and diarrhea and constipation.
FODMAPs are found in all types of foods. They’re in wheat and certain vegetables, like broccoli or onion. They’re in dairy products, like milk or yogurt. They’re in beans and legumes. And they even occur naturally in certain fruits and vegetables like apples, pears, asparagus, and even in popular sweeteners.
-- What Is The Low FODMAPs Diet? --
The Low FODMAPs Diet is an elimination diet that can help relieve IBS symptoms and reveal your personal FODMAPs sensitivity.
During the FODMAPs elimination diet, you will cut out broad groups of foods that are known to be frequent sources of digestive problems. This allows your digestive system to “clear out”, and at the same time your IBS symptoms will subside. After you’ve eliminated FODMAPs for a few weeks, you can then test different types of foods to see which ones prompt reactions.
At the end of the 8-12 week diet, you will feel better, know your personal FODMAPs sensitivities, and be able to take control of your IBS.

I drink more water, eat carrots and leafy greens, try to remove triggers and stressors, exercise or walk in green spaces once a week, avoid ice cream and chocolate, trying to reduce coffee, hope to slowly fix sleep hours, avoid burgers, no rice, no bread or fried food for now.
I, eat before 7pm to allow digestion before sleep, no more mushrooms and am trying different pasta that causes no pain - macaroni seems ok for now. No more apples for me but i drink orange juice once in a while. I am allergic to peanuts and prawns - so only fish and easy to digest chicken meals. No cheese for now and will only have dairy and lactose free cheese in the future.
I also found rice porridge to be v helpful and easy to digest.
I am still working on my list but i hope this helps someone out there. It takes about 3 months to see the patterns and then give yourself time to adjust to new habits slowly. Be kind to yourself. ⚘ Good luck.

It depends on what type of IBS you are experiencing. The abdominal pains, cramps and other associated symptoms can be reduced drastically. In my view as a scientist, resetting your gut health will contribute significantly to treating such symptoms. I have written a short, easily digestible post on IBS. What it is? Which one are you? What tests you have to take on order to diagnose as an IBS patient. Even the specific diet for IBS patients.
You can search "Mr Safology IBS" on Google or ⤵️⤵️
Secondly, read the short post below and I mention what to do in regards to reducing abdominal pain and all associated symptoms. Some more information on peristalsis, how and why there is a disruption in the gut-brain axis.

I haven't had much success with them. It wouldn't hurt to try it, but most enzymes are broken down by stomach acids before they can fully complete their purpose.

I am going to type this out like I have many times before but for IBS-D the cure is methadone.
It slows the transit time down in the colon so it does not spasm causing the cramping, bloating, ect ect ect
I've been on methadone for 5 years now I can drink alcohol, soda, coffee, I can eat greasy foods, red meats, stress does not set off an attack basically no IBS anymore (NOTE) this only works for IBS-D not IBS-C
I am on 8mg which is a very low dose you can Google methadone if you don't know what it is but it definitely made my quality of life go from a 5/10 back to a 10/10 🙌
