The Birra Moretti that is now sold in Brtian is brewed here. The flavour changed when they started brewing it here. I seem to remember spending 11 hours in Gatwick airport around 2012 and it was still brewed in Italy then. A good session and needless to say it was superb. Aldi's copy is made in Italy but I couldn't find out where Lidl's version is brewed. Moretti is just another example of brewers marketing foreign beer that is continetal in name only and a poor imitation of the original. It should be ilegal to pass beers brewed here off as overseas origin, thats the real rip off.
I agree its obviously misleading but its not a misrepresentation in law! Worst example is Becks - used to be imported from Bremen now is brewed in that centre of German beer brewing excellence - Luton!🤢
Aldi one is good
@@kat7777 My mate brought me some of Aldi's Peroni rip off lager last Easter and that was good.
It's owned by heineken so the fact that it declined in taste and quality isn't suprising
@@diversitydeliverer7094 lol 😂 Yes but we don't all like really strong beer tastes. I like budweiser because it's quite light and bubbly.... Maybe cos I'm a woman 😏😊
UK pubs closing down everywhere, all whilst selling fake beers. It's a nightmare.
Best way to still get Italian brewed Moretti is get the 330ml cans or on the sub torps it’s absolutely gorgeous.
You should have done a three way shootout with Aldi’s Birra Mapelli!
Bit late to the party here....
Think the Aldi Moretti & Peroni rip offs are Swinkels brewery (apparently they have a base on Italy too). The bottle caps of both the Aldi & Lidl versions are the same (with hop leaf on) so I'd say great chance it's same brewery. Never seen them on any other beers. All of them decent & way better than the originals!
Great reviews as ever ;-)
Birra Moretti is one of the best lagers I ve ever had. Drank it all the time in Italy. Lovely stuff.
I have never had a nice pint of Moretti on draught. It is much nicer in the bottle. I'm sure it is different in Italy.
Next you should do a Aldi v Lidl Birra Moretti copies
Just having one now, it’s bionda good value for money !
Tried the lidl and Aldi on Sunday. The lidl was nicer smoother and tasted better. But the Aldi was ok. Makes sense to buy the supermarket own version over the version that it replicates as it tastes better is cheaper and the original isn't even authentic as it's brewed here anyway!!
1.39.....1.79 the difference is 40 p :-)......very nice review as usual Simon. Cheers🍻
I find these Aldi 'copies' bear little resemblance to the originals other than the packaging.
Ok,they will be a lager or wheat bear etc depending on which beer they are 'ripping off' but taste wise they dont even seem to be attempting to emulate the oirignal.
As I recall, the Birra Moretti 'copy' tastes quite good, the Nastro Azzuro not good, the Kronenbourg not good(but neither is the original) and the Leffe Blonde and Hoegaarden copies are decent but not on par with the orignals.
*Oops, didnt realise this was Lidl. But i guess the same applies.
I like them both How ever Moretti after 6 bottles gets me so full and gassy but bionda is the opposite I can have 8 and it’s hardly gassy and it’s smooth plus it’s 1.49! Bargain
Birra moretti is 17 quid for 20x330 ml cans part of the 2 boxes for 17 quid deal.
Its good enough for that price!
Having a bionda now for the first time, tastes decent
Must try it. I ve had Mappeli better than Moretti
Moretti... the only lager that could almost give Peroni a run for its money in the _oversold_ department. Not that convinced I could tell the difference. Not sure if I've seen the beer ad featuring someone drinking & driving a sports car you mentioned 🤔
Sometimes a blind taste test might be interesting??
Simon, great job on the upload, personally am not a fan of Birra Moretti, it reminds me too much of Madri/Carling which I just find undrinkable.
I would be very interested to see you do a 3 way shootout between Peroni, Aldi's version which is Rossini and Lidl's version which is called Birra Italiana, I laughed personally at Lidl's name for their Peroni as thought they just renamed Birra Blonda to that but nope, it would appear this was not the case as Birra Italiana uses the same blue and white stickers you would see on Peroni and Rossini. Definitely would be interested to see what you thought of all 3 of them Simon 🙂
Almost certain you are getting paid off by the German supermarkets haha, rave reviews lately. I do agree with you, the beer is better. They are letting the big boys spend all the advertising money then ripping them off, I love it. I try to convince my mates not to drink mass produced green brewery shite.
There's a Moretti rip-off in Aldi as well. It's decent. Only about £1.30 (or close to that) for a 500ml bottle
Just adding a bit of info by an italian, the actual bottle of Moretti in Italy is much more similar to the one of the rip-off so the resembling is even much more
Simon is more Italian than that knockoff moretti lager !
Simone Martinelli !!! 🇮🇹🤌🤣
😆 at middle emoji
Brilliant review ,,This guy is so entertaining. Love that lidl one ..
I'm having a Birra Bionda right now. I like it!
Mrs going to lidl later, will give it a go this tea time.
What is a glass with a widget ? I assume the glass you put the Lidl lager in is a "nucleated glass"
Moretti, like Stella & kronenberg etc, all fairly standard lagers in Europe, but now brewed in uk & absolute shit, don’t know why anybody would drink it.
Never found Moretti to be that pleasant...overhyped and overrated lager. Much like Madri!
Madri is another false beer. Brewed here its about as Spanish as a plastic bull made in China.
Yeah agreed I tried madri and it was nothing special
Madri is about as Spanish as Fred Dibner. Molston Coors/Carling crap brewed in good old blighty. Massive design budget with nothing left for the ingredients
The new 5% Lidl Italian lager is much better bodied and far more full of flavour than the 4.6% one.
Yeah the moretti over here in Italy doesn’t look like that. It has different bottles and always tastes amazing.
Hi Simon,,have you tried any beer from cerne Abbas brewery in Dorset ,,if not well worth doing as they have around 12 different beers from 3.5% - 8%
Get the 660ml bottles, they are the Italian brewed stuff and tastes remarkably different. Had a bottle last week and it was lovely.
It’s like Heineken, get a six pack of the 330ml cans as it is the actual stuff brewed in the Netherlands.
The UK brewed stuff of these two beers are awful in comparison.
just by looking you can see wich one was better
Birra Moretti is rank nuff said. Not even a good example of an industrial larger.
Why is it all beer from countries abroad even mainstream beer like stella, Heineken, amstel all taste great but here they are shocking if brewed here. I know its there home countries of brewing but surely they should be the same brewed here?
Birra Moretti and Peroni are awful beers in the UK. Madness when you go to a pub and they charge nearly £6 a pint. Much better can be had.
If birra moretti claimed lidl and Aldi are rips offs then aren't they doing the same by selling authentic Italian beer that's not brewed in Italy!!
He really needs to use the same glass for both, it's not a fair test.
Good review but you keep saying about the look of the beer but admitted that one glass was nucleated and the other wasn't. If you put the Moretti in the other glass, it would have been much nicer looking but one thing, we can agree on Moretti is awful, well the UK brewed stuff anyway.
Should try the other rip off bbeers
Essentially, when the big giants buy regional, or specific national beers they do it for the worst. In Italy Heineken bought Pedavena many years ago just to reduce staff and shut it down. It was only thanks to the local people's petition and stubbornness to keep buying it that finally it went back to what it was... All the major beers produced by the giants are, I'm sorry but the reality is that, tasting pretty much same and bland and bringing the public palates to being unable to remember the real taste of beers. The only thing people do is drink a pint and go to the toilet. Drink, piss and again! "Drink piss", and piss again. Crude reality.
Birra Moretti , gives bad hangovers.....prob full of crap
Couldnt agree more. Tried Moretti in that bottle and it was awful. Lifeless and so artificial. Will give the lidl one a go as it looks to have more about it.
Should have remembered it was Heineken as you had Moretti on the Blade.
Copywright law is weak in the UK and Lidl/Aldi copied M&S template were they sell stuff under their own brand but basically you have to look twice to realise your not buying the original. But it tricks your mind into thinking its the original.
Remember M&S said they were going to sue Aldi / Lidl over Colin the caterpillar cake . Nothing came off it due to the M&S Pot calling the Aldi Lidl kettle black
You need to bin the widget glass.
I'm not keen on Birra Biondi from Lidl. Certainly not 9/10 anyway.
Heineken are the kings at ruining beers
Heineken are no more guilty ruining beers than any of the other big brewers. They all do the same!
Have you tried a UK brewed Stella Vs a Stella brewed in Belgium?
Or a UK brewed San Miguel Vs a Spanish one. Or a UK brewed Estrella Vs the Spanish brewed.
All completely different beers if you drink the real deal from their native country compared to the tosh we get brewed over here.
@@JDMoll82 yeah i have got the Perfect draft and enjoy the lagers on there
Birra Moretti is just poor man's Peroni, pretty dull and cheap. Still better than Carling though, that stuff makes me retch after each sip. All those lagers are foul really. What you really need is Chernigivske (a Ukrainian lager). Not only is it a really good lager but also the profits go to Ukrainian humanitarian efforts and a each can reasonable price.
Love the video! 🍺🍺
No, thanks.
should stick to continental lager I could see the Lidl version of this beer was better just by looking at it, that's their strength, not British craft beer festivals!
You want to see the birra mapelli in aldi its even closer rip off 🤣🤣
Er £1.39 £1.79 wheres the 30p its 40p my mate
Moretti bloody Moretti its disgusting it should be 7.9p a bottle
