Me neither, even though I knew this song in 1986 🤔 Janet Jackson side tracked my memory 😅 There was tons of good songs like this back in the day. It's easy to forget when you don't hear it for 30+ years. how did I get so old lol
Lol...right...I don't know how or why the song came to mind today but it did and I went searching the great newage invention of the internet and here I am watching this with glee, lol.
Man!!!!! Talking about serious here!!! This track was the real deal when it came to 80's music!!!! It's a shame they don't make music like that anymore!!!!
I had totally forgotten this song. Thank goodness for RUclips. Closest thing to a time machine. The memories that came rushing back just by hearing this again.
Heard a sample of this song in U Sure Do by Strike, and my memory still failed me 😱 I guess it's similarity to other tracks of the era clouded my memory 🤭
RUclips threw this up as a random suggestion and as soon as the chorus dropped I wss like "shiiiit, thats Strike U sure do!!" absolutely love finding the originals of what I thought were actually original dance tracks. And this is SO much better
What a strong club hit in 1986 from Donna Allen. It went through the roof on my parent’s farm back then! Produced by Lou Pace, who also worked with “Nicole”. In 1994 it transformed into “U Sure Do” by Strike.
Once again I'll say that so many good songs throughout music history are from one hit wonders. This girl deserved better and should have had more hits.
This song just came back to my memory after all these years. I haven't heard it since the 80's. This video shows and sounds exactly what was going on in the 80's. The. people are dressed as what was once called "fresh"
Yup! I think they were trying to re-create the movie breakin’! They had the turbo and ozone look-alike so yes this was definitely a spoof on that movie
The only reason this track came back to my memory is that I heard it on iHeartRadio's Freestyle station a couple of days ago. Much like you, I hadn't heard it since the '80s, but it quickly sounded familiar.
sweet teenage memorise! l use to blast this track on the ghetto blaster, nothing. comes close to that 80's feel good era. omg the video lol! i fancy her boyfriend and his outfit!
Gosh! I haven’t heard this song since it was released during my senior year in high school! I loved it then, and I love it even more now. The “rapping” and synthesizers always made me “bounce!” 💖
🤯 forgot about this toon!!! My older brother use to ride his 66 Impala with his CONION C100F ( didn’t have 💵 for sound system 😆) in the front seat ,full blasting this song!!! Thanks !
Here in the UK, this record came out April 1987 and reached Number 8 on the charts. Takes me right back to being a care free 13 year old again! Sadly it never gets played on BBC Radio 2.. a shame, as its a great 80's pop record.
10/2/22 Sunday Night Football brought me here…..they thought I didn’t catch it going to commercial break…you can’t ignore a classic like that …respect to the diva!
DONNA ALLEN IS MY BEST FEMALE MUSICIAN! FROM R&B TO GOSPEL MUSIC! SHE IS SO FABULOUS! I THANK GOD FOR HER LIFE BECAUSE SHE HAS A VERY GOOD REPUTATION!! EVERY PART OF MUSIC SHE HAS EVER SANG HAS A UNIQUE PRODUCTION THAT IS STILL VERY RELEVANT TODAY!!! ONCE AGAIN I THANK GOD FOR HER LIFE!!!!
1986 was the absolute best year, for infectious Radio Hits. The production quality and sonic polishing far exceeds what is digitally recorded today. I played this song on three one-night stands, as a horny 22 year old. Memories, ahhh…
I remember this song being performed on the defunct 1986 dance show dancing to the hits!it was so funky &Donna can sing the phone book disappointing she never received more recognition in her career🎉🩰📻📺
I recall hearing this song in early 1987 when I was 18 years old and in 12th grade. Some time after March of that year was the last time. From that time I primarily recalled mostly major instrumental sections of it really well and forgot the title but was able to recall who sang it.
Many of you are complaining about how awful the video is. Well, despite the 80's being the decade of the music video, vocals and whether or not you could sing was still important. Donna was an incredible singer. In 2017, its the opposite. Great videos featuring lousy singers who couldn't sing on key if their lives depended on it.
is, was, and always will be a serious jam i was a little young and i dont know if i saw the video before this, but i heard it on the radio and bought the 45rpm single immediately. so i have always had that image for this song. but i love the video. the 80s was more empowering to women than people give it credit for. i love how at the end they all leave the joker who burned her.
@@paisleyprincess7996 I think being over the top isn't a bad thing in a music video, like Pat Benatar's "Love is a Battlefield." The video has a good song to back it up.
Lou Pace hooked that beat up!! That shit was fire 🔥🔥🔥 back in the day!! And I love the spoof of the movie breakin’, with the turbo and ozone look alikes, classic!!
@@edwinmitchell884 their is lol when i said i remember watching selena cover this song at her top 40 medley live performance i meant i saw it on youtube lol. In the same video she also covers jody watleys looking for a new love & michael jacksons billie jean.
Selena covered this song??? OMG! That's so cool! I would love to see her version. I absolutely love this song and especially the video. So much energy, and it looks like it was really fun to make.
Está rola me encantó cuando estuve en Chicago en los años 80's y al fin la encontré y la escucho todo el tiempo, con nostalgia acá en México....👍...en serio 👈
I share in your disappointment, BUT the VOICE did give her the platform for exposure to the WORLD and that alone WILL open doors for her to rejuvenate her music career! Donna is one who will "NEVER" give up on what she was born to do, regardless of her age, that was her message to all! Many blessings to you
Almost forgot about this song, even though it was sampled in a popular dance track. I guess the janet jackson vibe and cameo style rap clouded my memory ☺️ The fact that it doesn't get much radio play doesn't either 😔 Reached number 8 in the UK
I accidentally found this song again. WOW.... I remember the words. Haven't heard it in 35 years.
you remember the words, yeah right
One of the most nostalgic favorites 1987
Donna Allen
86. still got the tape 👨🎤
I never knew where the U Sure Do vocal was from, now I finally do. This is the greatest music video ever!

I have some serious jam in my fridge.

An 80's CLASSIC. KEEP FINDING THEM!
Such a quintessential 80's video! Pumps with socks, cheesy acting, love it! The 80's were THE BEST!!
It's been 34 years since I last heard this song. Flood of memories. Damn. Just, damn.
Lol...right...I don't know how or why the song came to mind today but it did and I went searching the great newage invention of the internet and here I am watching this with glee, lol.
Older than me. I can’t even begin to imagine how hard that nostalgia feeling must hit you.
I get it strongly from 10 years ago. Haha.

The dj called Barbwalters samples this in an amazing track called "Lovin' You"
Look into synthwave - there's lots of talent creating new music inspired by and directly utilizing the 80's sounds in that genre.
Timeless, i still play this track at the club.... from seoul korea

Thanks for technology.
Very ashamed to admit that, until today, I didn't know U Sure Do sampled anything. I love this!
Same... Both cracking tunes
I can't believe that a song as good as this only hit #22 in 1987 on the Hot 100, that just aint' right.
Isn't that big though? Well it reached #8 in the UK national charts may 1987 ...it was a huge hit
On the US Billboard top 40 but I think it made it to top 5 in the Billboard US Hot Dance charts
Damn Straight!
@@jonblazeinc Yea of course it is, top 30 is respectable!

One of the best R&B/freestyle jams ever!
Glorious 1987! It produced this gem, and also Jodie Watley's Looking For A New Love. I used to confuse both songs at the start, hahaha
Both songs more or less released same time April/May 1987 in UK anyway
The song was already known in the UK long before it was officially released in 87. I heard in 86
