- We're not messing around with our crab cake recipe. Farideh Sadeghin, Maryland-native and MUNCHIES Culinary Director, makes a crab cake that is 99% lump crab meat. There is no filler in this cake! It's pure, delicious Maryland blue crab meat. Spoiler alert-Old Bay is involved. Or as Farideh calls it, "Old Bae."

Eh maybe well outside of MD or away from the coast because I wouldn't pay a hair over $30-$35 dollars for both of those cakes. The dozen or so crabs needed to make them should only cost you maybe $25 from your local fishmonger or maybe a few buck extra if you buy them pre-cooked at one of the multitude of roadside crab stands and wagons.
Buffalawlz I was more just joking about how restaurants in Baltimore and surrounding areas jack up the prices for "all jumbo lump meat" crab cakes. I haven't actually seen $100 crab cakes.
Resturaunts normally price their food 3 times the amt of what they paid for it. pay for food, pay the cooks/servers, and pay bills for the place while getting profit.

I am an old man now 85 years old but I grew up on the Jersey shore with plenty of blue claw crabs. That yellow stuff that you call mustard my mother called crab butter it was delicious then and still is
Mix all the wet ingredients first prior to mixing with the crabmeat. Helps to keep from over mixing and breaking up all the lumps of meat.
Excellent advice! I use japanese panko crumbs before baking. Sometimes I add poppy seeds in it to make a little different and upscale to impress my guests. It always work well.

i moved to south carolina in the early 90's from glen burnie . My family has always been purist , when it came to crab cakes . We didnt use fillers of any kind and dont to this day understand why anyone would.I like mine fried though , either way its too good for humans. Watching this , made me homesick and you've made a grown man get tears in his eyes.
I used to live in Glen Burnie a few years ago and I'm about to move to SC.

Most crab cakes I've had are fried and loaded with bread crumbs like she says. This place in Rehoboth Beach Delaware called Big Fish Grill was the first place I've had them broiled just like this and they're now my favorite. Will definitely make this. I'll go crab 🦀 over lobster every time.

It’s so weird to me that the Pacific Northwest had tons of seafood and they hardly, if ever, use Old Bay. I have to bring my own. I just don’t understand. 😣

I've been told by a fisherman friend that the orange blobs are caviar (eggs) they are very delicious with the yellow "mustard."

Definitely! They have the best crab cakes around, but the place was always such a dive. And that parking lot was designed by a sadist. But totally worth it.

J.M. Clayton Co in Cambridge MD sell 1 lb can of cooked blue crab meat. You can get large lump meat, regular size lump and claw. They ship. I bought mine at their factory which is on the bay. The crab boats come right to their plant off load and many workers hand pick the meat, then it put into the cans, and them cooked in this huge pot they have. HUGE. Then they keep it in their coolers. I bought 6 cans and they put it on ice. When I got home I just kept them in the fridge. The Crab Cake recipe is right on the can.
I'm from San Francisco, and we are serious about crab here too, we just have a different kind. But that recipe looks spot on yummy, and old bay is always a must!

That "yellow mustard" or "poop" is the crab fat. Very delicious when used to make stir fry rice.

It's actually EVEN MORE complicated.
We often refer to it as fat, but it's not actually fat. It is a sort of organ called the hepatopancreas or Tomalley, which helps to filter contaminants and aid the creature's digestion. That's why sometimes you'll see local health officials tell you to stay away from eating it.
This little goo is the source of many misunderstandings. It's not my favorite, but i know a lot of people that love it. I usually let my brother take most of the mustard

Funny story about jumbo lump crab cakes. So some years back I picked up my then girlfriend, future wife, cheating wife and soon ex-wife at BWI airport. On our way back, we stopped at this market in Baltimore that sells jumbo lump crab crakes. So yea, when she told me jumbo lump crab cakes my mind wandered and I imagined them being the size of softballs. I was so excited because I have only seen normal size crab cakes. Like who does JUMBO lump crab cakes. We are then in line and I am looking around trying to see how big these crab cakes are. To my surprise, jumbo lumps crab cakes referred to the big pieces of crab used to make the crab cakes. They were tasty but still not what I imagined. I am hoping to find a place that makes them that big or just make them that way. Farideh, I want to be that a@#hole and make a giant one!

I've only been to Maryland once and had some awesome crab cakes at G&M, but I think these are better! They were so easy to make following the recipe. The cute girl was a bit of a distraction though. I might've had to watch the video a few times;)

I always could never find a restaurant anywhere on the east coast. That had all crab crabcakes. Everywhere i when it was more bread crumbs then crab meat. And they would charge an insane price for them. Looks like I'm making this for Christmas

Great video! That’s the proper Chesapeake Bay crab cake recipe alright, but instead of shallots, I add green onions. Sometimes when I feel sacrilegious, I sprinkle cilantro over them
I love her but I’m from Savannah, GA... we don’t do Blue Crab. It’s all about snow crab and king crab lol. We love our low country boils too. MD is okay though; spent some time in Owings Mills and Glen Burnie.
Those look lush! For the tartare, however, I use dill instead of parsley. Just personal preference 😉
