Pajamas or suits and veils. Rock concerts with superbass and motivational speeches or reverent, traditional liturgy and Gregorian chants. Martin Luther doesn’t believe in biblical inerrancy and reworked the entire Bible to fit his own narrative. All of his work was built upon the early church fathers and doctrines, without them, the reformation would have never happened. Were Catholics not saved for a full 1500 years? The true church is the Holy Catholic Church whether you like it or not. How many hundreds of Protestant sects are there? 99.9% of Protestants who refute the Catholic Church bring forth typical Protestant strawmans.

I hope we all stop going to church to be entertained. I felt empty when I went to church looking to be wowed by music and sermons.
I go to reach church in whiteplains, and the worship is awesome, you can literally feel the presence of God as the people turn to God and worship. This guy was saying how it was a dry mass where he didn’t even know when the preaching started. And it is biblical for the bishop to be married.

Priests were never restricted from marrying on the bible. They can be of one wife. The book of Timothy *SPECIFICALLY* mentions to NOT listen to people who tell you not to marry or not to eat meat. The Orthodox church atleast allows preists to stay married. I'm not saying Catholics aren't Christians, but they will always fall behind Protestants in many ways.
I’m a Protestant who recently attended my first Mass and I found it beautiful and very spiritual in a very different way. No light shows, loud music, or rock concert like worship.
They showed so much reverence and it was all about God and not OUR entertainment which I really enjoyed and wished we as Protestants would have more of.
And the way they do communion was the most beautiful thing IMO.

I go to a non denominational church. I recently went a Catholic Church that sang hymn’s. I cried over the beautiful songs, architecture, paintings, and marble columns. The fact that every single person bowed before they sat down was so beautiful. I was in complete awe. I’m signing up for RCIA next Friday. I can’t wait for my first Eucharist next year. 🙏 My decision hasn’t been easy, but I’m only chasing God. He’s all I need.
Both of them have good music, but I prefer the Protestant music by far. Anglican and some Baptist churches maintain many of the Catholic choirs and hyms sounds, so I wouldn't necessarily call that exclusive to Catholicism.

@@dahliaherrod4301 Reverence is fear of God with deep respect, honor and homage. Sister, the mass is how the apostles worship during the early days. This is how JESUS WANTED to be worshipped with receiving HIM in the EUCHARIST, which is the REAL PRESENCE. the TRUE BODY and BLOOD of JESUS CHRIST.

im almost certain hes not talking about it being entertaining. If you cant capture people with preaching and the scripture then what is the point of it? finding a biblical church is the most important.
why are y’all so upset, no one said anything about being entertained… just that involvement of congregants is subpar. maybe that could change, but no one goes to church for entertainment, we know you all think we do but we don’t. church also doesn’t have to be “boring” you all have the beautiful buildings, and mysticalness down, but involvement and personability is lacking.. all churches have areas they could improve.

The resident priest in my parish is amazing with his homilies, and he usually causes Sunday mass to go an hour and a half, and he's full of energy and passion for God and the parish. I go to church every Sunday now. Even if I'm dead tired.
Also, most of the Mass is Biblical and practically taken straight from the Bible, except for hymns and the homily. Basically, mass does not have much creativity and is mostly copy and paste. I've also gone to protestant churches that had no fun either, but I don't go for fun. I go to learn and to have a connection with God and the parish. Once a pastor wasn't really good at capturing the audience with his sermons, and he did a lot of judging instead of preaching and teaching us.
@@living_epistlesthis tells me that you have never been to a Catholic church, and if you have you only went once. My parish gets lively during our recessional hymn. Each parish is different. Why? Because it depends on the type of people that attend. Some people prefer a more traditional mass where they get to spend more time praying on their own and meditating. Some people prefer a more modern mass where there is more unison during the mass and more involment from the people. I personally prefer a more traditional mass, so sometimes I will drive a little further to go to a parish that has the traditional Latin mass. You're also not taking into account culture. My parish is mostly Hispanic and they tend to have a more lively mass during the Spanish mass. The mass I go to is an English one and is mostly older people who prefer the modern mass, but still meditative, so we tend to only get lively during the last hymns, unless it's lent or advant. So, the "constructive criticism" you provided doesn't really help here, because most Catholics who go to church tend to like it how it is at the parish they go at. I personally stopped going to nondenominational Sunday service because I didn't get it.
Do you think God is supposed to be boring? And what do you call your love of icons and old rituals? That's entertainment! Like a movie you watch with your family every year, just because it's boring doesn't mean it isn't entertainment, and just because REAL churches are exciting (more accurately: helpful and thoughtful and applicable to life) doesn't mean they're "entertainment".

My wife are I are protestants, raised Catholic, but very recently we feel like we’re being drawn back to the Catholic Church not necessarily to become Catholic but that there will be a bridging of Protestant & Catholic legs of the Church. It’s as if we have things to learn from them and vice versa.

I don’t know but I pray for this daily ❤️ there is the grounding of the early church fathers and the scriptural and historical depth of Catholic Mass that is missing in many Protestant denominations, and there is an openness to movements of the Holy Spirit that can sometimes be missing in Catholic culture (to name just a few of the things each side can gain from the other)

Yes! Husband and I have been dedicated to our lord a savior since 2018. We started at a Spanish Pentecostal church and then switch to an English nondenominational church. But this year, I started learning the history of the Catholic Church. I started having these weird nightmares that made me realize I was not expressing how torn my heart has been. I spoke to my husband. He’s not on the same exact boat as me and I completely understand. He’s not much of a reader, or listener, he’s a man that expresses himself through actions. Luckily, he will be joining me for RCIA this fall. I pray it’s what God wants for us. Husband and I are both cradle Catholic’s.
I’m a catholic and attend a non-denominational/baptist Bible study group but I’ve been praying daily for a few years that Catholics, orthodox, and Protestants can stop fighting against one another and instead fight alongside each other against the dark forces that try to tear this world apart

As a recent concert to the Catholic Church from Baptist, there's so much about this take that shows why I left protestantism. There's a complete misunderstanding of why we go to church. We're there to offer worship to God, not to entertain ourselves.

I’ve been going to a Catholic Church now for about 4 months. I come from a Pentecostal AOG church. What I love about the mass is that worship is not solely based on the musical instruments or the charism of the preacher but is based on the sacrifice of the Mass. I obviously am not able to receive the Eucharist as I have to go through confirmation first, something I’m working towards for myself and my family. But I love the uniformity of every one lining up and receiving the blessed sacrament. I also love the uniformity of everyone kneeling, signing the cross, and praying the prayers and the creed together. I love giving the kiss of peace to my wife and kids during mass and giving the sign of peace to all the laity. He brought up that their is no child care so your kid or kids have to be with you. I have a 4 year old so with that when we went church he is used to child care and was not totally feeling the mass. And the honestly that could have been the deciding factor of me coming back but the Lord told me keep bringing him. And now he knows what’s up! Same with one of my other sons who I had to scold in front of everyone and it was embarrassing but I didn’t let that get me down and when we came back next week he knew what’s up lol! So I love having my kids next to me at mass. The church I go to, evidently is also called St. John the Baptist, here in Folsom CA, offers 4 different mass times. I was drawn first to the Catholic Church before my wife, so we would still go to the AOG church at that time it was offered and then I would go to mass at 6pm. She eventually started to attend with me too and now she fell in love with it. So thanks to the multiple mass times we were able have a smooth transition from our previous church to this one. I have gone to a Greek Orthodox Church before and the liturgy compared to our Catholic Church is actually alot more beautiful, and that’s cool, but again I’m not coming just for the ascetic but I’m coming to a church that is in communion with the bishop of Rome. So I would encourage everyone to come back to full communion with the Catholic Church! May we all be one again! That’s my prayer!

As a “high church” Presbyterian, a lot of the comments made about Catholics here aren’t far from my church. There’s no worship band. Children stay with us in the service. We recite the Nicene creed. We stand, sit, kneel throughout the liturgy.
We are a snooze fest if expecting to be entertained. Personally, I would rather be in a snooze fest done to the glory of God for all eternity than to spend even one day entertained by anything else in the world! (Psalm 84😉)
I promise you one thing it never glorifies God if you shout loud at your sports team than you do when worshiping the God of the universe.

If you want to worship God quietly because that’s who you are praise God! @@zachboles8466 I don’t think you can really learn much about a person’s interior life by comparing their behavior at church to their behavior watching a sports game. Firstly because you can never know the hearts of others and secondly because church and sports are two different things with different sorts of appropriate behaviors. Sure, we ought to love God more than sports but having your hands in your pocket at church and then screaming at your tv an hour later doesn’t indicate in the least bit that a person doesn’t love God more than sports.

Like I said before, nothing wrong with worshiping quietly if that is how you are wired but that’s usually the person that watches sports or insert their favorite passion without losing their mind. If you lose your mind and are extremely passionate about everything but worshiping God you may just be worshiping your passion NOT God.
Quick corrections: It's called a homily, not a sermon. The person who did the homily was a deacon. Deacons can be married if they are married prior to becoming a deacon and they give the homily if they are there with the priest. They also stay permanently a deacon if they are married. Seminary priests are deacons at first prior to becoming priest.
We don't go to mass to be entertained. So, to say it was a snooze fest says more about the expectations of church rather than what actually should be done. This also sounds like it was a Mass on the weekday which is why it would be shorter. Sunday Mass has an extra reading and the homilies are longer. Sunday Mass is at least an hour long but some like Easter Vigil can go as long as 3 hours.
Just because you're baptized in the Catholic church doesn't mean you can take communion willy nilly. If you are in mortal sin you have to go to confession first prior in engaging in communion.
We have books in the pews with the song numbers up front if you want to sing along. That's how you know what they're singing our the daily missal as well in the pew.
This is a poor take on the Catholic mass. You clearly don't understand the mass and who brought you set you up for failure. Pretty disappointing to be honest. Please, if you go again at least brush up on the mass and why we do what we do and the significance of it all.

It's pure worship, Bible study and catechism are separate. Mass is purely about hearing the good news focusing on it mentally and meditating while all of calvary is replayed during the mass.
Don't know how he overlooked there were three different readings from the Bible, that happens at every mass, and different ones every week of course. The first two are read by church members, then the Gospel is read by the priest. The sermon, which we call a homily, is the priest explaining the reading and the lesson we need to learn from it. But here is a very interesting part some Protestant Christians may not know, the "universality" of the Catholic church. The readings are the same in Toronto, near where I'm from, as they are in Vancouver, Ohio, Florida, Australia, Africa, Italy etc. I have family living in those parts and if you are talking to them, you can discuss the same readings and lesson from that Mass. So we are literally all on the same page. God Bless!

I converted to the Roman Catholic Church in 2021. I was an evangelical most of my life until my conversion. Mass was a huge reason for my conversion. Thank you for showing us Catholics some love!
Mass, and rote liturgy in general, is what brought my family out if catholicism and into evangelicalism. Treating church as "the place we do rituals, just like in the old days... I think" is missing the poiyof church entirely.
I get it, during mass you don't have to think at all. If you're diligent, maybe you'll pray when you're told to. But if you're getting a 5-15 minute homily every week, what are you actually learning? When the same 6 verses are read every week, what are you applying?
Mass is not rote rituals, it is one long prayer- every mass has the Old Testament, a psalm, and a gospel, where the Old Testament and gospel are connected. If you pay attention it is so fruitful, the word of God. Then an explanation of the word (the homily). That is the first part of Mass, the liturgy of the word.
Then we state what we believe (the creed), and pray for the whole world.
After this we move into the core of the faith, the liturgy of the EUCHARIST. The last supper, the sacrifice of the lamb, where we partake in Gods one eternal sacrifice, and as he says in John 6 and the last supper, we consume him, and in so doing- here is the point of the mass, receive him who is giving all of himself to us, and KEY: GIVE OURSELVES COMPLETELY BACK. That is the heart of worship, the point of Sunday and of life, what God does not force in us but came down for- that he may give us himself, and we may give ourselves completely back (communion).
Side note- just before the liturgy of the Eucharist we recite the Lord’s Prayer together.
The liturgy of the word and liturgy of the Eucharist (the two halves of the Mass) are how Christ taught us to celebrate him- read the road to Emmaus

One thing I will say is that It’s sad to see that so many people get lost in denominations and churches rather than what Jesus wanted for us. We have new believers who join the faith and see this division rather than the unified effort of propelling the kingdom of Heaven here on Earth. It’s almost reminiscent of the Sadducees and Pharisees. I’m relatively new to the faith and have visited Catholic Mass, attend Protestant church actively, and am looking to visit the Orthodox Church all in search of greater intimacy with Christ. Calling it a snooze fest is ignorant, especially when it’s in the name of our Lord Jesus. Happy to hear anyone’s opinion and corrections of my perspective
The Sadducees and Pharisees could've unified and they still would've missed Christ because their hearts were not right. They were blinded in ignorance, sin and hypocrisy, and it's the same with many movements today. Not all who say Lord, Lord will enter the kingdom of heaven. Christ will tell them that He never knew them, and so the goal is not unity with such people. The goal is to find the Lord and follow Him with all of our hearts, souls, minds and strength. The Bible says believers pass from death to life. Not only do they know God, but God knows them. The First Epistle of John is a great book to read on this topic.

Catholic here. The sermon is generally after the reading of the Gospel but we call it a homily. Also, priests don't have to don't have to sing. If the priest can't sing, they are permitted to read those prayers solemnly.

The Priest is married to the Church. The focus of the mass is not a sermon. We do have our liturgy, 3 readings from the Bible, but the mass is about the sacrifice Christ made for us all. It’s a celebration ever week of the lamb of God sacrificed for us and participating in the Sacrament he left us at the last supper. Where he mystically enters our body and soul so we can be in full communion with him even as he is seated at the right hand of the Father.
I think is interesting that the Catholic mass in focused on the Bible readings and on the mystical body of Christ that binds all Catholics to his real presence. His criticism is that there wasn’t enough time focused or spent on the priest giving a lecture on his thoughts and his ideas. He was missing a person spending the time to tell everyone what he thinks and taking that time away from the Bible and from Christ.
Disciplining children and having them involved in the mass is very important to Catholics so it is encouraged to have children in the mass. If a child becomes disruptive then a parent will step outside with the child. How well behaved children are in mass has always been something I’ve been proud of as a Catholic. It shows how well the community can influence a child’s behavior. The children behave better because they see all the other children doing the same.
This is ridiculous. There is no excuse for not knowing the gist of what the Mass is(Catholic Sources). It is a sacrifice, not a concert. Catholics are participating in the Supper of the Lamb, with those in heaven, depicted in Revelation.

We aren’t automatons, what we do affects how we think. Bowing and crossing ourselves in reverence helps us understand and respect God more.

Edit: I don’t get why priests taking vows of celibacy seems to be such a hang-up for you guys. Would you say the same about Paul? He said it is better to be single and fully devoted to God. Priests are spiritual fathers, and Paul said he was a father to many children.
Because not all teachers or spiritual fathers should be celibate. Devotion to God doesn't automatically erase sexual desire or the need and want for a family. The apostles were not all celibate, so I don't understand your points.
This right here! I go to the Latin Mass (hoping to check out a Byzantine rite soon) and the Mass is so reverent and really beautiful. I did go to a novus ordo mass too and yes it’s a valid form but the one I attended was not as good as the Latin one. The traditional one has all kinds of people and from all walks of life. Young and old, babies etc. it gets packed! Catholicism is really rational and mystical and I love the history, liturgy and truthfulness. God bless!!

That being said, forsaking marriage, intimacy, and children is why it’s called a SACRIFICE. Read 1 Corinthians 7 where Paul talks about this. If you can’t control your urges, then get married. But those who choose the vocation of priest are more able to serve than a Protestant pastor with a whole family to tend to. Give and take.

Because >mandating< celibacy is not only unwise and unscriptural, but inconsistent as well. The “first pope” had a wife. That’s the only argument needed. If they all voluntarily make vows to singleness and celibacy that’s great and totally fine. But if they officially, canonically, dogmatically, etc. cannot be a priest and be married that’s a problem.
The Catholic Mass is one of the few places on the planet that is 75% scripture, containing 7 of the 8 forms of prayer and worship (no prostration), Old Testament, Psalms, New Testament, Gospel reading, Book of Revelation, prayer of thanksgiving, forgiveness, and praise. The only human insertion is a short homily by the priest, reflecting on the readings. I wish the priest faced the alter again as in the old days.
I attend an FSSP Parish. The priest faces “east” leading the people. It’s beautiful!

According to this man’s logic a psychologist/psychiatrist could not help someone with mental health issues because they themselves do not experience the same mental health issues of their patient.
I am a Southern Baptist...during College I started attending a Catholic Church. There are 3 things I LOVE about the Catholic church....#1) When you go in (and I like to go in early) and it is peaceful, quiet...except for the folks saying the Rosary out loud (together). Not so much in In the Baptist Sanctuary....kids are running up and down the aisles, folks are greeting friends across the sanctuary ("Hey, Dave...how's the family? or "What did you do on Saturday night...?" etc) #2.) Lots of folks coming forward and greeting you in Baptist Church....which is a bit rough when I am trying to pray, or read my Bible, etc. I like the friendliness, but I like to be quiet before sermon...prepare my heart. Very distracting in Baptist Church. #3) One other thing about the Catholic Church....they are all different. Some depend on who the Priest is...in charge. Kneeling, bowing..(.I like that too).
As a Catholic, I also experienced protestant churches growing up, because of my parents' co-parenting, from Baptist to seven day advantist and episcopal. I stopped going to church altogether as an adult. One day as an adult I decided to go into a nondenominational church. Like you said, so many people came up to talk me and welcome me, which isn't bad, but I didn't go to talk and make friends so I was put off.
I decided to go back into a Catholic church last year, and I think like you said, it was perfect for me. I did end up making friends naturally, but no one came up trying to chat as I walked in or even walking out. I had people bow in my general direction as welcome or greeting as we're leaving, until I went for the 10th time, and a guy came to talk to me and invited me to a dinner that the parish was having.
This is why I pray in my car before service. Gives me a chance to center myself before I go inside the church building. I actually really love that people greet me in the church. I'm on my own a lot so it means a lot to me that folks care enough to check in on me and see how I'm doing. When you're new to a church, it's a massive help
@@dahliaherrod4301 In a HOT TEXAS Summer...especially between the end of July through Labor Day weekend...you have to be a glutton for punishment to want to sit in your vehicle to pray or read your Bible (unless its short as 5 minutes). And BELIEVE me I have tried that one. Even parking under a large Pecan tree for shade isn't much help (and I have done that one too!) Cracking a window doesn't help, because usually a fellow parishioner will stop by your car TO WALK INTO THE CHURCH with you. Believe me...I have tried the above...glad it worked for you. I live in TEXAS...and it is a totally different ballgame here. Even if you are lucky enough to have undivided time to pray & rad in your car...it isn't safe to do that in certain neighborhoods. In Arlington, TX (where I lived in my College days) we had deacons guarding the parking lot, because women were getting purses snatched...and cars were broken into...and that was in the late 1980's)! That was BEFORE church shootings became a thing to worry about too!

I rarely have people coming up to my car though. I guess most people sense I need a minute and leave me alone until I get into the church. Never had to worry about safety. Not on the church property at least. People are generally pretty respectful of churches where I live.

The most brutally evangelical critique of Mass that I’ve ever heard. lol. The Mass is actually patterned on the road to Emmaus, where you have part 1, liturgy of the word, aka Christ explaining the doctrines to the two men on the road, and then part 2, liturgy of the Eucharist, where there is the “breaking of the bread” and the disciples eyes were opened to Christ with them. You’ll also find st. Justin martyr explain a matching description of the mass in about 150AD, so boring or not, this is a very ancient way to worship!

I love when protestants say that Catholic masses are boring, because going to church isn't about being entertained. 😂 It's about praising God and seeking communion with God. The parish I am part of can get pretty crazy towards the end with our recessional hymns, and we all sing and dance along, but only during ordinary time.
Going to church isn't about being boring either. I cannot imagine being so disrespectful to God as to literally believe "if I act depressed and quiet, maybe God will be happy".
This is such a dumb strawman of protestantism, we aren't entertaining anyone except God. Our worship has something called PASSION. We actually care about our service to God. While you worship, as an angered teenager being forced to tell her mom "ughhhhh i love you, i guess", we shout from the mountain tops "I LOVE YOU!"
Perhaps you're okay treating God with zero passion, as if he's a pagan deity which needs to be satiated by some magic words or else bad luck happens, but as for us, we genuinely poor out our hearts with effort and genuine gratefulness.

@@rujotheone it's really called an homily, not a sermon, but I don't know why the different name. I never looked into it. Length is usually kept short, because it's customary to fast before mass. Which is also the reason why many parishes have mass at like 5am or 6am, or 7am. The fast traditionally would be 8 hours prior to mass, if I'm not mistaken. It's just another form of worship, by basically saying "no" to an earthly desire that you basically need to survive and saying yes to the holy spirit through discipline.
I personally still follow that tradition, but many people now do an hour prior to mass, which still requires discipline if you wake up hungry or usually have a coffee in the morning as a routine. Or if you tend to have dinner at a certain time if you're going to an evening mass.
The crazy thing is, Protestants could literally still go to their non denomination churches and get their music and sermons and still be Catholic. They could do all of that on Saturday, and come to mass on Sunday!!!

Please talk with a current practicing Catholic before the next mass you go to so you can have a baseline of understanding of what the mass is, and approach it with the right posture/expectations. The mass is ordered to engage all of our senses in worship (ie hearing, speaking/singing, movement (standing sitting kneeling), smell with incense, etc), and is divided into the liturgy of the word first (including an Old Testament, Psalm, New Testament, and gospel readings) and liturgy of the Eucharistic second (following Jesus in John 6:54 "Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day”). And the rest of the prayers during mass are quotes from the Bible. With everything oriented toward Jesus there is only a small time for the priest to share a short human teaching, but that isnt the purpose or central focus of the mass (there are Bible study groups and other things in Catholicism for that). The purpose of the mass is the Eucharist primarily and secondarily to hear god's word in community in the readings and the prayers.
I was raised Catholic so just a few things..No the Catholic priest doesn't have to be able to sing. The raised ceiling is a steeple. The idea behind it is so the church stands out from other buildings but also to draw attention to look up to God. And technically to receive communion you've had to go through the sacrament if making your "First holy Communion", kids study to understand the meaning of it in religious education classes which usually happens between 2 and 4 grade. Its different in different churches. And Technically once you have made your first communion your supposed to go to confession or 'reconcilation" to be absolvd of your sins before receiving communion each week.

I pray to God that the scales of your eyes be removed. You offended JESUS. This is how the early apostles and church fathers worship Jesus, not some band and blaring music, which does have no reverence, no respect at all. If you just remove the music in a Protestant service, everything is also a "snooze fest" and visually unappealing.

I had the opposite experience. Went to a protestant church recently (2nd time I went to a protestant church in 2 years, been going to an EO one) and the pastor literally took out his phone to take a selfie with the audience. Suffice to say I made a good choice and only ever go to a protestant church for friends or family. I find it empty and mundane regardless of the lights and music

What does dude think liturgy means? There aren't multiple liturgies at a Roman Mass. If you want to try out a Liturgical branch of Christianity that will be more familiar, try an Anglican church (not episcopal, try an ACNA affiliated parish).

In chapters 65-67 of Justin Martyr's first apology (written around 110ad), he describes early Christian worship. The apostolic churches hold to that form of worship much more than the low l church services you might be used to.
It's fascinating to see into the mind of a modern protestant, who is so of the world that he thinks worship is about YOU instead of about God. Sounds like it was a modern, novus ordo type "mass" he attended. I shudder to imagine someone of such a mind at a low Tridentine Mass.
Tell me you don't understand worshipping God, without telling me you don't understand worshipping God.
The Catholic mass is based around the Liturgy of the Word and the Liturgy of the Eucharist. It is not based around the sermon of a certain pastor. Every mass is just as meaningful because we get to partake in the sacrifice of our Lord, it does not depend upon how good/bad/inspiring/entertaining the homily (not talk) is. Nor does it depend upon the pastor. This is not to say that a good homily isn’t desired. A difference in the Catholic mass and Protestant services is that Protestant parishes are often based on and depend upon how good/bad or inspiring their pastor is.
Also, the Catholic mass is not measured by or dependent upon how inspiring and heart wrenching the homily is (although some masses are the most beautiful and reverent thing there is). People do not have to be deeply moved every time they go to mass. Rather, true devotion is going to mass when it isn’t entertaining or “fun”. True devotion is duty. It is not based on the feelings with a certain pastor has induced with a moving sermon. Again, this is not to say that a great homily is not desired. And there is definitely a time and place for inspiring sermons concerning the faith. This is just to point out that if you think that that is what the Catholic mass is about, you have missed the point.
Ive heard the same type of feeling from people that only eat fast food and love going to those place, and when they go to a higher end restaurant that requires more sophisticated taste. They think is a snooze fest and dumb and pretentious and blah blah. Idk if that may make sense to some 🤷🏽♂️
I love my Lutheran church. It's WELS, and it's beautiful. We don't do the child care, either. We want the little ones to come to Jesus and be welcome.

The preaching matters, but isn't the focal point - the Eucharist is.

The crazy thing is I've been to many exciting American style Protestant services and I honestly don't "feel fed" and much rather the solemnity of mass and participation in the worship of the sacrifice. It's just profoundly different . The Catholic Church has seperate events that are for speeches/preaching/band music, but it's not really considered "worship" but a form of praise.
I’m very Pentecostal and my best friend is very catholic. I do my best to take it seriously when I visit. I just worship my Jesus just like at my church.

Catholic Mass was too deep for dude. Only saw the surface. Takes time to understand the underlying meaning and significance of it all. I'm still absorbing it after being confirmed. I expect to continue learning and discovering until my final days.
Again, the SBC did NOT reject the Nicene Creed.

It’s not that Protestants go to church to be “entertained” rather it’s the receive the word and its application to our current life. It’s not wrong for them to be turned off by a catholic mass, it’s just different. I believe God intended there to be different denominations because people are different, as long as they preach FROM SCRIPTURE, Jesus, and Proper salvation then just Go to the one that you Vibe with most. We are all brothers and will be in the Same Heaven! ❤

How does Jesus commanding us to “be one as I and the Father are one” indicate that He intended different denominations? He didn’t, and schism (the inability to be unified with other Christians which is the root cause of denominationalism) is a grave sin.
I think it's really important to examine the truth claims of Catholicism and then go from there. When you find that it is true you will fall in love with Jesus in a new way that is hard to describe. The. You will love the Mass and the liturgy (find a reverent one). God bless you 🕊️

As a Catholic I understand where you're coming from. I love the Mass and receiving my Lord in the Eucharist, but for an uninitiated newcomer, it can be hard to understand the significance of every ritual. I highly recommend reading a guide on the Catholic Mass (Catholic Answers has one called "Why Go To Mass?"). I was shocked at just how much it resembles the gatherings of early Christians and how rich in meaning every little detail is.
I went to one this last weekend. Walked in 20 min prior and it was dead silent, people were either praying having towards the cross with christ lifted up or waiting. They would bow before the cross before sitting down. I loved the reverence. Only thing was, nobody said a word to me whole time even after. Seemed as tho once people received the eucharist, they bounced and the service wasn't over yet. Found that weird
I was baptized protestant but i follow catholic values mostly because of both of my grandmothers, i think both religiona together are stronger than fighting over whos right, its like theyre both missing Jesus's teachings, thats why i put my ear out to any words of our Lord, they all have value because Jesus is still their savior on both sides.
There are many different rites in the Catholic Church. Sounds like you went to a Novus Ordo. Those are the most common after Vatican II but even then some are a tiny bit different due to some priests in different churches being in different orders. Some priests are local, others from different countries, hence the accent.They are sometimes moved to different churches.The readings are the same around the world, the priest's homily can vary. Some churches offer the chalice, others do not but according to the Cathechism, offering the host only is acceptable. Regardless, whether it's captivating or a "snooze fest", the greatest gift in mass is the Eucharist and taking part in the sacrifice and banquet of our Lord Jesus Christ.
‘Boring’. Church isn’t meant to entertain you but an act of coming together to worship God and partake of the sacraments. I travel for work and appreciate the Catholic Churches which are always open. I am able to quietly attend mass and pray and reflect on what Christ has done in my life. It’s difficult finding an open Protestant church during the week, and then determining if they have sound doctrine or teach heresy. At least I know where Roman Catholics stand on certain positions. I’ve had beautiful experiences at the basilica in Madrid and Notre Dame while on work travel, I don’t know their liturgy but know that it’s scripturally based.
Loving the comment section, also would like to say that once you realize what’s actually going on during mass, it becomes much less of a “ snooze fest “ and more reverence, praising, and worshipping our Lord and I can’t call that boring. When I was a kid forced to go to mass I was bored out my mind, now that I’m older and understand what’s going on and what’s being said and why, I Love mass. To be fair to my Protestant brothers and sisters I do enjoy attending some Protestant churches aswell with my wife, I get why mass would seem boring to someone who literally goes to a party every Sunday ( which I’m not hating on, I love the joyfulness and worship music on stage ) , I treat Protestant churches more as a Bible study for me, but I go to mass for my own personal reasons and Ofcourse to receive the Eucharist, which I believe is our Lord Jesus Christ. I love you all and I do pray for unity between all Trinitarian true believing Christians 🙏❤️
I actually wouldn’t mind if there’s a church service experience segment in this show. Doesn’t have to be every week. Maybe monthly or bi monthly but it feels like the content setup RUclips is known for with a sincere Christian twist
I get the "boring" perspective. Myself had it until I got to 15 and stopped attending. BUT, I eventually got back years after, humbled-up and decided to take my Catholic faith seriously. Ended up learning so much, it all suddenly made sense. All of it. You have no idea how deep the theology is. It's 2000 years of wisdom.
If you want a top-shelf mass, check out an FSSP traditional High Mass.

The reason why it’s a snore fest for Protestants is cuz the main attraction is the Eucharist. The sermon (homily) is the least important part. But protestants are all about how the sermon and music make them feel.
I think that's it in a nutshell. Although, I do also look forward to the homily, because our resident priest is so great at connecting real life to scripture and he has a real passion for preaching, but the main attraction is of course the Eucharist.
Jesus loves all forms of worship. Singing praise music is joyful.
Can we just respect each other and understand that Jesus is for everyone? we are diverse.

@@gameologian7365 so if the main attraction is the eucharist, then mass really is only for catholics, because we can’t even partake in the eucharist. no point in looking into it. also makes sense why evangelicals are more inclined to do reach out.
@@gameologian7365 teaching is a gift of the spirit so it’s equally important, service is inclusive to communion and discipleship, how are we discipling people without proper teaching? what about the great commission?
Mass is beautiful. I'm not RC, but the tradition and symbolism in the mass is something Protestants have no time for which is a shame. Worship is supposed to mirror a lot of John's vision in Revelation.
Worship is not primarily for your benefit it's for Gods. So sorry you were bored by worshipping God.
The Lutheran understanding of Christian worship is that it is primarily for our benefit, not God's. God serves us through His means of grace -- the word read, sung, and preached, confession and absolution, and the sacrament of holy communion, when God invites us to His table to feed us with the body and blood of Christ. We respond with our thanksgiving and praise, but the primary direction is from God to us. The liturgy is almost identical to what you would find in a typical RC mass, but with some important differences in theology.

I'm not Catholic but I'm from Philippines. It's not called a sermon but a homily for like 20-30mins.|
There's also a "Catholic Church" that has a vibe of protestant service, the priest is called a Pastor with a worship team.

@@hermanwooster8944Some parishes do, but less and less are having the entire church drink the blood of Christ in mass. Idk why but/c I haven’t looked into it. My guess is for sanitation purposes

Please don’t criticize catholic priests for celibacy. We have a lot to criticize priests for but the vow of celibacy is not one.
Additionally, it sounded like you didn’t take your visit very seriously and didn’t seem to be grateful or have any semblance of awe for our Lord my brother, please see past anti-Catholic nonsense and allow yourself to enjoy the process of Mass.

@@SN-cy7kj not necessarily, people leaving a mass feeling empty do so for many reasons, not enough bible focus/ reading, lack of fellowship, it’s overly meticulous, ritualistic/mystical not relational, prayers are not engaging, not understanding the worship, and not being able to partake in communion could be one as well. Heck, if you aren’t used to a particular church tradition and feel lead to fellowship/ honor God in other ways, one might feel empty at mass or any church service.
no different then catholics feeling empty at protestant services (which some have expressed in the comments). does that mean God isn’t present? not necessarily, it’s just not a way people are used to communicate with Him. But I really wish Catholics would just accept that diversity of the body, rather than displaying haughtiness.
@@living_epistles yup you’re spot on and confirmed my comment quite well. If it is fellowship or other self fulfillment you’re looking for, you’ll find those at other churches. Those are not priority and main focus of the mass. It’s first and foremost about God and not to make attendees feel special and included.
@@SN-cy7kj church services are both, no where in scripture do you see people behaving with a superior than thou mentality. Nothing that I have listed is self fulfillment, all are done to glorify God.
The first time I went to a Calvary Chapel service I was confused at the end. In fact I was confused that service was over as all that had taken place in my mind was some sing-along, something the could have been a sermon, and a video about the church with announcements. Coming from a liturgical tradition it looked like a disorganized mess. I think both Zack and I would have had a better experience if we had taken the time to read up on what to expect first.

Find a Traditional Latin Mass. incredibly different. The “new Mass” is a woefully lacking in 99% of Parishes. You should have Taylor Marshall on your show. He is like a more based Trent Horn.
