• TAKING OFF! Why Some S...
What’s worked for me is always get boxes for 80-90 in price and sell when you can’t hold anymore for a slightly discounted price. You still make WAAYYY more than you would selling early and you’ll sell it faster because FOMO always kicks in when buyers see a great price you won’t see elsewhere. If you sell early and at market price you’ll still run into people choosing others over you.
Incorrect. Market price is what it means, the collective value of product or service in regard to supply or demand. If individual A sells at market price, you as being individual B can sell at the same market price. If you discount lower than market price, you sell faster. If you list at market price, it might take longer but it will sell being that’s the valuation of said product.
@@TheNachris720You didn't say anything that he didn't lol.
Yup. Buy less than $100 and you will never lose

I love that someone is finally talking about this side of investing in the Pokémon tcg. Not a great deal of people touch on this topic enough but it’s one that I’ve put a fair amount of thought into.
I think it’s important to also practice selling pokemon items such as singles or sealed products where you’ve made a gain but it’s not a drastic amount so that you can use these moments to practice the process of listing, selling, shipping, the fees attached and so too understanding the local tax laws around collectibles where the mistakes aren’t going to hurt so much. Because you’re going to make mistakes along the way but you’re going to want your mistakes to not cost you so much for when these moments arrive as much as you can help it.
So whilst it’s great to have that discipline to sit on product to appreciate say 3,4,5x, it’s also equally advantageous to have a good idea on how to sell your items along with the do’s and dont’s of trying to move on your investments to realize your gains.
Great video mate!
Thanks for tuning in mate!
Answered a lot of questions I didn't know I had, and it got me thinking a lot! I realize now I don't have a plan with my sealed collection. I have bought a little of that and a little of this, without a clear intention. And it has felt wrong, in a way. Surging Sparks is the first set I have pre ordered a booster box and an etb from, and I probably will get another booster box now. Buy two, hold one forever because it's fun, and unload one when the price doubles. Worst thing that will happen (apart from going bankrupt) is that the other box will make me a millionaire in 20 years. Repeat for every new set, and add older sets when money allows. It cannot fail! Success is guaranteed 😂 no but in all seriousness... Thank you for the video. The path of collecting starts to become more clear!
Welcome mate!
“Gunna be an advanced video”
So let me tell you a little about this thing I call supply and demand.
😂 great video, just goofin
Haha love it!
I think it comes down to set, the chase cards and how many booster boxes or cases you're holding. It also comes down to how urgently you need the money. If you have the capacity to sell slowly and let market demand slowly fill them over time then do that. If you dont, sell off to recouple initial investment and hold what you can afford to hold long term.
I think long term is the best way to go IMO
Im in the game to buy and hold, cant wait to get my hands on surging sparks
Same.. I know I already have enough that by the time my kids go to college I may have it paid for or close to it.
Keep it sealed brother!
@@brandoboyer731 for sure! We will be seeing 200 a booster in no time
I was just thinking about this topic, you Gave me lots to think about, this video is solid information, blessings your way!
Glad it was helpful!
I think you've summarised it perfectly, the dilemma on selling is impossible to answer as we'll never know the perfect time to sell. I listed a load of S&M at market prices and they didn't move. I had to bring that price down just ever so slightly and they flew.
Glad this has been discussed as I think about it regularly. I think there’s always going to be a demand but you rightly point out that isn’t going to be always a big demand. I think those who retain something for several years will be patient enough to wait for any potential return. Of course if someone needs to realise on part of their investment because they have a more urgent need for cash then yes you’d likely take a sale under market. But that’s no different to any form of investment. My attitude is that I’m buying for todays and the next generation collectors. The real ones will want to get the sets they couldn’t now. I just expect it will take a little while to sell up as collections can get big. If you take that approach I think it will work out. And if the market falls away and our investment is essentially worth very little we can always open it. You win some you lose some. Don’t think that will happen but it’s another option. Great video cheers mate.
Good points mate and thankyou!
ES is going to $2000 a box it’s just a matter if you want to wait or not
Its hard to sell it then
It will be worth more then that😂😂
@@joshmellen9647 I’m not talking 20 years from now. I’m talking about 5 years from now
@@LisaSchmidt-h6y Not sure how hard they'll be to sell. There's so many live streamers out there trying to rip packs for content and Evolving Skies will always be at the top of their desired list and what people want to see ripped if they can afford it.
ES?
Don’t forget S&S era is the last era for yellow border cards so could have a massive boom down the line
This is such an interesting take. Honestly it can be applied to any version of investing. I have never seen anyone mention this regarding Pokémon investing. It makes a lot of sense. Maybe drawing a line in the sand to know what a decent sell off point will be after a fixed amount of years, then you repeat the process with the newer sets in an era. Great video!
Thanks man!
I’m sitting on 2 evolving skies ETBs (I know, not a lot but that’s what I could afford at the time so I pulled the trigger) and am wondering when a good time is to sell given they keep going up, I’d like to get some other booster boxes or buy some singles I’ve been looking at
Stay the course
I think selling around the 800$ is the sweet spot. Enough liquidity and enough appreciation
Is the answer to get cases of the 3 pack blisters? Then can be at an accessible price for more people in the future, and easier to offload. But you've gone the volume route so can still make decent profit.
Much less liquid and harder to sell as the price goes up
Bundles seem to be the best of both worlds imo
When starting to invest, I asked this myself, because no matter how much it‘s worth, someone has to buy it first and the market is getting smaller the higher the price. In my country, outside the US, the market is by design smaller, so I needed a strategy.
I usually buy 2 cases per set and plan on selling 1-2 boxes every year starting 5 years after the set has released. This way I get a good mix between appreciation and risk of it not being worth anything anymore or me not being able to sell it at that price.
Market doesnt neccisarilly get smaller the higher the price goes. Yea people get priced out of booster boxes, but then people just start buying single packs. And single pack sales push the booster box prices. People just breakdown the boxes. Im doing the same as you, i have 1-2 cases of a few sets that i deem lucrative. But im pretty much holding till i can start selling booster boxes for 400-600. Twilight masquarade will be 200 within 6 weeks. If u look at the supply, its non existant. They cut the supply (print run) for scarlet and violet in half, compared to sword and shield, because demand fell off for 1 year, once they corrected the supply, demand picked up, and u get this cool opportunity to make money. It takes pokemon like 6 months to react to the market, and by the time they react, the market already shifted. Watch they probably increase print run right as demand falls off and it will be a disaster.
@@skrufy11 Interesting viewpoint. I have no idea how the single booster pack market is/was performing. I have not considered that they buy single packs instead of a whole box but that makes sense.
Just another reason why having diamond hands is harder than one might think.
I think that high price and lower volume for older items is likely indicative of fewer diamond hands existing for that product, but it’s just a reality that higher price and lower sales volume means that you’re out of luck if you’re a whale and want to sell a lot quickly without reducing the price.
That's exactly right mate!!
Sealed prices will keep increasing as supply dwindles. Even if you have to list something a little under market value 8 years from now, you’re still going to make significantly more by holding that long
i was thinking this, we will never get back to og days. Kids dont even like old cards. Just be old heads collecting till they die. Too many sets coming out, i personally thiknk buy pre order then sell at any profit then re invest.
I've been contemplating selling off some booster boxes right now with all the talk about the US economy going the wrong direction. Sell some now and maybe if the market tanks, buy in with the gains at some good prices.
The recession loom has been on the horizon for a while hey!
Ok in any investing, u should always have an exit strategy. But here is why u wouldnt wanna take a 2x return, because if ur a business, in borderline any industy, and u sell a product at retail, ur profit margin in around 40-70 percent. Which is literally the same as buying a booster box for 100 and selling it for 200, 50 percent margin. Except u have to sit on product for a period of time. Not worth it. U might as well just buy any product whole, staplers, basketballs, t shirts, knives, whatever retail product u can imagine an sell it online at the same margin. Ur waisting ur time sitting on product, unless ur making 5x.
I was hoping to get a definite answer, but in the end, I still don't know when is the right timing to sell.
Sure it will appreciate, but selling at that point will become very difficult
Not if the price is right, you might sell at 15% under market, but people will pick it up for that price. 24 sales for team up might be not to do with availability over market demand
I buy a case of each set, when it doubles I wait abit longer until the market starts to cool off then sell 3 boxes and keep 3. Then use that money to buy another case.
Rinse and repeat only using the first payment.
Sold out of all my SWSH cases now and onto the waiting game for SV to start doubling and working up to buying 2 cases of each and selling 1.
Good strategy mate!
If you could answer all of these questions, you would be a billionaire. It works pretty much the same way as stock market.
Don’t be emotional, and don’t spend money you cant loose. At least if your plan is only to invest
100%
Hard for me to sell some of my sealed but probably the right thing to do... Have a bunch of evolving skies and Cosmic I just want to hold, have evolutions and burning shadow and Lost thunder that has appreciated some, then a bunch of sword and shield, choosing which to sell is the hard part. I have like darkness and rebel clash maybe selling them since their chase cards are not as good and holding the big potential risers is the move.
Not a bad play mate!
Its not about units sold whrn ur talkin about booster boxes, its about how much money worth the booster boxes have sold. Yea 500 evolving skies booster boxes sold, buts its 3.5x more the price of chilling reign. So the dollar amount being sold is more for evolving skies
Always buy to double or triple a % make some cash to reinvest but keep a few long long term to see how they do. 🎉
Boom!
We intend to trickle our collection into the market someday, and enjoy the steady revenue from the sales (🤞)
What is your opinion on PSA 9 vs Raw (advantages & disadvantages)? Fighting with myself and could use a fresh perspective.
I am actually asking myself the same question. Plus I am fairly new and I really wonder how hard it is to get a 9. I clearly have no idea how to evaluate a card but to me, really sound like getting graded card is the way to go when investing...
What's the point stocking 10$ or 20$ cards when the transport is gonna eat up most of the price increase? I would rather get a PSA 9-10 worth a couple of hundreds...
I'm currently on the verge of commiting lol
Thanks for sharing!
@@alexisbosson1721 Our outlook on 9s is they are the balance of Value and Quality. 10s are for investing, 9s are for collecting. We are fine with cards that are real and in guaranteed mint condition (without costing 4 times raw price). We have to live within our means, and if we wanna collect all the hits, 9s are the way to do that.
Just sucks that everyone says 10s are the only thing worth getting. Not everyone has PSA 10 money, and raw tends to be better received than a 9 which is backwards.
@@alexisbosson1721 We visited our trusted LGS and spoke with the staff and they were very clear about how to shop modern cards; If it's modern, then you want either PSA 10s or Raw. Everyone is trying to save money, and unless the PSA 9 is cheaper than Raw, they recommended we go with Raw. Hope that's helpful, still go with whatever your collector heart desires!
These early SV sets are not really that good in my opinion (excluding 151)
I think once we get the rocket and gym challenge set, those will be the most sought after for this era.
Plus, mega evolutions will be reintroduced once legends ZA releases. The later half sets of this era are going to body this first half.
I reckon that's going to be the case as well. But we'll wait and see hey! 🤞
My problem is i only have 1 of each sword and shield box so i dont want to let go..
I like to sell when things get hyped up. for example if waifu cards are all the rage, im selling my waifu cards. If a card like say umbreon v alt gets pumped bc pokerev said it is undervalued, I'm selling that card, and if i want it ill just rebuy it later if price goes back down. Other than that, If I deem it an awesome item to hold like say evolving skies BB, eeveelution premium collection boxes, or eevee heroes gym box, l'll hold those for years because they are way less in supply that a lot of other products like etbs, regular collection boxes, tins, trainer tool kits etc..
Certainly nothing wrong with just realising gains and being happy with it!
From what I gather, it is best to sell your sealed products while the sell volumes are high...
And to be honest, if you plan to invest a set amount, like 1000$ and stop there, at least you can double it after like 2 years, then invest 2k and double it.... and take more chances, diversify... If it works like that, it's times 2 every two years, you're looking at times 32 by year 10.... Your initial investment is not gonna make times 32 in 10 years period...

I gotta admit I was hoping for big bro to say something like "just never sell"😂
Haha that's my plan 😅 outlast!
Best time to sell anything is now, eBay has no fees at the moment, well at least in the UK there's no fees on eBay
Oh really?
Excuse you? How are you not paying fees? I highly doubt ebay would give up their slice of the pie like that.
@@pokeoz91 yeah, I think the no fees was trialed in Germany and it was quite successful, now it's came to the UK. Probably be the same down there at some point in the future.
If you're okay with sitting on a product for 5y, you should be okay with letting IT sit on the market for 5 months as part of the process.
Booster boxes are the holy grail, and I will always invest and collect them, but in the last couple of years I’ve gone hard on cases of 3-pack blisters, and sleeved booster packs, they’re a great investment alternative to booster boxes, and if you’re willing to hold onto them long enough they’ll probably be more easier to sell off than booster boxes.
Another product I’ve been getting into are booster bundles, I think they’ll do well to.
Great video Michael 👍
Same here I'm doing them all. Etb cases also if you got the 10 years to wait $$$$
I think booster bundles will do well long term as well. Like a mini booster boxes as there's no other product inside except packs 👌
for me booster box cases are the holy grail, especially with xray scanners nowadays
@pokeoz91 true I got like 50 booster bundles of various sets
Don’t sell till there’s less than 12 sales a year 😅
When you get to 1,000 or more people usually don't have that type of money
Yeah it becomes less liquid hey.
Not from USA, can someone tell me if in the example of Stellar Crown BB's, selling for $106 average, are you paying any fees or tax on top of that?
Some people have resellers license and they don’t pay tax. end consumers pay the tax
If no license then it’s about 8$ in tax
If you buy from a local gaming store, ebay, or other distributors you pay around 7% tax so that's an extra 7.50. If you're buying a case of booster boxes then you're looking at 40-50$ in tax. Shipping can factor in and the seller pays like a 13% fee. The best way to do it is try to sell locally in person but thats difficult.
Nice try, but you'll have to pry these boxes out of my cold dead hands
Haha love it 😅
Lol guys just took proffits on my teamup up box. 10x is plenty lololol did i make a mistake???? Bahahhaha
this is true, I let go evolving skies booster box around 180-200 dollar because it will be harder to sell above $200 in my country. ETB maybe up to 100 dollars but it will be a hard sell already.
