Oh Julia....I am absolutely loving the mugs with the blue flowery transfers on the bottom and twisted handles!, Oh, and that Scarab...awesome!! oh and wait!!WOW the open carved plates/bowl with the coils...WOW, Amazing!, loving that "orange peel" texture in the center...its like leather as well! OK, so now your blowing my mind with the other coil bowl/plate with the rosette and flower pattern in the center! Thank You for your inspiration...and hoping that you continue to feel better, as I cannot wait to see more of your talent! Take Care, Stay Well.
Oh Marie, thsnkyou so much for all your wonderful words, they really do mean so much to me and give the the reason to push through being unwell and to create more pieces to show you. Thankyou so much for your support it really means so much ❤️ 🙏
Fantastic Julia, those coil bowls are absolutely wonderful! I love them. And my fav mug of course is the great big one at the start! I love a big mug and I love the caption too. Be lush with a big hot chocolate in it! Oooh collaboration!! Who with?? Xx Also if you need anything grinding off the bottom, I’m happy to help, so you don’t ruin your pots. I knew that scarab would turn out nice, it’s gorgeous. I have a thing for scarabs too! Xxxx see you soon x
Hi Michelle, thankyou so much, I really appreciate your kind words. A collaboration 😁 any time! Oh I didn't know you loved scarabs too! I will have to do one for you 😊 xx
Hey Julia, I love your coil bowls......and the tea set is great and the colour works too, even though its not what you expected. Look after yourself and take time to do what you love because pottery is good for the soul as well as the body and mind! ( but you know this already ) xoxoxo
Thankyou lovely I really appreciate your kind words. I am being kind to myself. I have my small garden studio being done end of July so hopefully will be OK to make more pots by then xoxoxo
Some amazing pieces here Julia, such variety! Your last bowls wow!!! Love it, and georgous colour. So good to see you back, but sorry to hear you've been unwell. Be amazing when you manage to get your own kiln back up and running, thank goodness you have a community kiln close by!
Hi Jeanette, lovely to hear from you, thsnkyou for your kind words, I made another of the coil bowls but bigger the other day with a new white clay but it all fell apart laugh 🤣 I finally have a date for my little studio to be done 24th July so working towards that! I have been tooing and froing as to what to do and finally just did it. It will only be small at 10x8 but it will be a dedicated space. I am lucky that there a re a few kilns about, the is a lady in the town I'm in who has a studio too if I was stuck. Hope all is well with you lovely😊 😊
Good to see you back and see the different things you are making. The scarab is so clever, love the spheres and coil bowls, I’m still having so much trouble rolling a round coil 😅
Hi Lesley, thankyou so much, yes I just kept going with the square coils 🤣 light handed and just on the palms with fingers firmly up at an angle I find works for me, they still roll square but I can usually get it back. Hope your kiln is working well 😊
Julia, you are so wonderful, beautiful and so so very talented! I love to see what new creations you have. I absolutely love so many pieces you have shared today!! The braided handle mugs....just gorgeous, the coiled bowls are so wonderful and I love the glaze choices! You are an inspiration to me and to all who are potters! I hope you feel better... I know it is so difficult to be creative when your not feeling well.
Ohhhh Nancy you brought tears to my eyes, thankyou so much for your so kind words. I have toyed with the idea of giving up pottery because of my health but when I read the words you have wrote it makes me know I have to keep going. To know I inspire you and other potters means so much to me. Thankyou for supporting me and my channel Nancy 💓
@@ceramicsbyjulia8552 Oh how exciting! Can’t wait to see what you’re up to. I can’t imagine having to take my pottery somewhere else to be fired. Did you ever find out what happened to your other piece your missing??
Super pieces Julia, great to see you back with the vids. The coffee set is very Art Deco style, love it. The mugs are getting to a proper tea mug size, yeah! With the buttons did you buy a mold or make your own?
Hi Derek, thankyou for your kind words, yes you are right the coffee set is a little Art Deco I didn't see that before now 😊 those Mugs hold a whole day's worth of tea I think 😄 the buttons were from a little silicon mould that had various flowers on there are a few of that size then I put the holes in. I am loving doing the little things like that at the minute 😊 you could def make your own bisque ones or I have seen some people use silicon guns to dispense some silicon and push things in for a mould which is a great idea.
You are so incredibly creative. Your tea set is amazing!! Love the orbs. Please tell us how you made the ball with the smaller balls inside!! My favorite are the coil built bowls. Stunning. I pray for your health. I have Lyme disease and for a long long time it was sooo hard for me to find my words but I must say that it has gotten better. Bless you.
Hi Michele, ahh thankyou so much for your kind words, it has been much harder to find the energy for pottery so to know you like my pieces means so much. I shall do a tutorial for the spheres once my small studio is built if you like. I do love the coil bowls too, I did do another one a bit bigger on Thursday with a different clay but it all fell apart 🤣 Oh bless you I totally understand the Lyme, there is a lot of crossover with M.E which is one of my issues. I am glad your word finding has gotten better, my brain just does not keep up with me 😊
@@ceramicsbyjulia8552 I can’t wait! I’ve been doing a lot of slipcasting since spring started and now that it’s so dang hot I’m done with that and will work on my handbuilt pieces. I went on the Temu website but didn’t really know what to look for. I put in pottery tools to search etc but only found placemats for texture. Can’t wait to see what you found. I pray you are feeling well.
Bless you, I haven't tried slip casting yet, I have a mould but just pressed some clay in 😅 In Temu I put in silicon moulds, wire cutter tools, craft supplies. My Temu haul is up on my channel 😊 have a few more bits delivered to do a second one.
@@ceramicsbyjulia8552 Slip casting is how I started on pottery. I used to take ceramic classes where we just sat and painted pottery then I took a summer long class in low fire slipcasting and glazing. I had a mobile paint your own pottery store for a little while where I would take everything to a persons house or a church, school etc and everyone would pain there pottery and I’d take it all home, clear glaze it and fire it and then I’d return it. I wasn’t making anything in the end though. Then I started handbuilding and using stoneware slip for the slip casting. I’ll be learning the wheel hopefully this summer. I got a wheel 2 winters ago but hurt my hand and didn’t have the room to learn. I pray my hand is healed enough to try my hand at it now.
For your orbs you might consider making your own props in the shape of a cone or witch hat. Bottom heavy for stability then if you have a hole on the bottom you just stick it on the cone top
Your creativity provides so much inspiration. Sorry you haven’t been feeling well, I hope it is temporary & that you’re on the road to feeling better! The mugs & all of your creations are so much fun! Thank you for sharing! Hugs 🤗 how did you get the decals on a round surface? So cool! I’m curious what cone your community kiln is fired to?
Hi, thankyou so much that means a lot to me, in those times I feel like giving up because of my health words like yours keep me going😊 I have pretty serious long term health issues that are getting worse, so just have to do what I can 🙏 I did the decals in strips on the sphere and then tried to fill in spaces when they came up. I also found a way of hiding the seams ( use some scrap pieces and wet a small paint brush and use the decal as a dry paint to stiple and disguise the sharp lines) 😀
The community kiln fires to 1210°c with a 30 minute hold, I do think it fires quite hot. They ramp up 100° an hour. Think that works out at a cone 6 or 6.5 it seems hotter than when I did that temp in my kiln.
@@ceramicsbyjulia8552 I’m very sorry to hear your health is declining. You radiate love and kindness and I hope hope hope you will get better. As for the decals….brilliant! i like the scarab too and perhaps i can do one before summer ends here north of Seattle. i have 2 questions for you, seeing the size of some of your works i wonder how big a kiln you use and i wonder what part of England you are in, my guess is the north parts.

The spheres are completely hand built I don't do any throwing so everything I do is hand built. Thankyou for supporting my channel it really means a lot to me 😊
Hi, really like some of your work, really beautiful design the only thing I would be a little cautious with is the practicality of some of your pieces. The knitted mugs are great just because of the ease of use. With your triangle coffee cups although beautiful please be careful serving someone hot drinks in them as the handle would be hard to grasp securely, I hope no offence is given by that comment maybe as you weren’t happy with the colour ( I personally think they are beautiful) just redesign the handle to a safer one, ❤. Hope you also feel better soon
Thankyou for your comments Tegan I appreciate all feedback, I totally get what you are saying, It is really just a decorative piece for home I wouldn't serve hot drinks in that shape mug, they are just an experiment with shapes as I love Clarice Cliff's work as she made some conicial cups 😊
