    I use mayco sw 001 cclar glaze over underglaze and fire my stoneware up to come seven with no problem. If you don't fire stoneware to temp it will not vitrify, and over the years will powder o bottom.

    • @ceramicsbyjulia8552
      @ceramicsbyjulia8552 3 дня назад

      I appreciate your advice, I already have Mayco clear. I can't take it upto temp as the underglaze used have been mislabelled by the pottery store and will only go to bisque temp. The 2 platters are not needing to vitrify they are non functional pieces smile 😊

    Adding, I've found Spectrum's Ginger to be a strong glaze. One wouldn't think so based on the light color, but it does overpower other glazes. I love your flail. It doesn't sound at all weird to me to say one is in tune with other dimensions. In fact, the property I live on has several haunted buildings, so I've experienced it first hand. Some people just close their minds to the possibility that there are things we don't understand. As far as the concept, I love it! Another way to look at it, is that some things can be used for good or for evil. The item itself is neither good or evil. It takes a person to decide how it will be used. A flail could be used to victimize people, or to defend good people against bad ones. There's nothing silly about your art. And pieces that evoke emotion and conversation are successes in my book!

    Hi Julia! You may have changed my mind about Rose Quarts. Too bad that bowl ran! What a cute shape on your milk jug! I bet your platter didn't get as hot. Copper float likes a good cone 6 or even hotter. To bad the platter cracked. It's lovely! The square vase is beautiful! I love that combo and don't think I would have even considered doing that. Too bad about the large bow. It was beautiful. Refires always run the risk of that. The next one will be even better! I like the square bowl as is. If it were me, I wouldn't risk a refire on that. Sooo excited for this!! You look absolutely beautiful by the way!! Oh honey those poor shelves. lol. Have you ever made kiln cookies? You can just make flat little pieces of clay and kiln wash them and put your pots on them. Or you can make ones that are raised in the middle. Sarah Walton has a video on how to make them on the wheel if you have a wheel. Spectrums floating glazes really run! I didn’t know that at first and applied 3 coats instead of 2!! I love that pot that ran so badly. And the cups with matching jug are gorgeous!! Ooh that pumpkin is gorgeous! I’m so sorry that big platter is cracked. Do they use alumina hydrate under big pieces? It would look beautiful on a plate stand! I love the vase! That clay is gorgeous!! Did you use a mold to make that one? Oh no that big beautiful bowl!! It looks like it was stuck to the shelf and couldn’t move. Try and get some alumina hydrate to sprinkle on the shelves to put under your bigger pieces and kiln wash your shelves. It will really help! Oh wow that flail is amazing!! It turned out perfect!!! Your chains are so perfect!! Mine have come apart as well as having bulges where they meet but I’m practicing. I love the idea behind the flail! My husband is a martial artist and so is my son. He knows alot of the history behind weapons. If that piece was really old it would probably have a few things missing. lol. It looks great and I totally get the idea.

      Hi lovely, thankyou for your kind comments ☺️ I do have cookies and raised cookies, I was in a real hurry to get the kiln on and just didn't think, especially as I had fired the big bowl without a cookie last time and had no problem, I should have known better than to fire a new glaze especially Spectrum without a cookie, think my brain is in backwards atm 😆 they don't use anything at the community kiln, the last couple platters fired no problem, think that one maybe got a little thin where I pressed the placemat in. I haven't been in full pottery mode recently. Oh wow how fabulous that you hubby and Son do that, I wasn't sure how the flail would go down, I didn't want to upset snyone😊

      @ I’m sorry. I know how it is to have brain fog!! I have Lyme disease, since I was about 10 but only diagnosed when I was about 33. It’s absolutely terrible and so hard to concentrate and think of simple words. I hope you have time to get back into your pottery. I just love that your boyfriend, mate? Not sure what you call him, likes pottery too!! Spectrum has been a little hard to figure out. I have a big kiln so it’s quite a while between kiln loads but my last load I had just a handful of pots with spectrum on them and where the glaze is heavy and drips it just turns white for me. It’s so odd because I see everyone else having these beautiful colors but I think it’s because I used 3 coats and I fire to a hot cone 6 almost 7. So I put a few spectrum pieces on the top shelf where it didn’t get as hot so I’ll see how they turn out. Don’t be afraid of offending people with your art. If they don’t get it that’s fine.

      Bless you lovely, I'm sorry about the Lyme, that is so rubbish, a lot of my symptoms cross over with Lyme so I understand a bit how you feel. I've been 24 years so not as long as you, it's awful being limited by something but we are so lucky to have our love of pottery and be able to channel what little energy we have into something wonderful. My partner/ boyfriend Tolga is not normally a creative person but wanted to have a go and now has lots of ideas, they are of course beyond his beginner status but luckily he has me to help him so will see what happens. Yes I saw all the lovely spectrum colours with the other potters and was drawn in by them too, I shall work on the inside of bowls till I can work it out. Let me know how your latest ones have turned out 🙏

    Great opening Julia. Some beautiful pumpkins too! Your first one which you thought would turn out pinker I thought was fabulous! The variagation in the glaze ❤ Love the milk jug shape, especially the handle. Looks pretty cool with the glaze just at the top with the raw clay. Power Turquoise looking good there! Nice result. Such a shame about the fusion! Made me smile how you held it to hid the mini pan 😅. Beautiful glaze in the dish ❤ Wow that skull and flower platters must have taken a long time to glaze!! Not used a low fire clear myself so interested to see how these turn out. Fingers crossed. May be worth adding a fine mixture of the 'paper glaze' I used on my jug to save the cracks from spreading further? Good luck Looking forwards to seeing your 'weird one' 😂😂

    If it was me I would wait to glaze that plate. I would run a few tests on the underglazes with different cover glazes in future loads. You could get a low temp clear, but I think in the end you're better off coming up with a clear glaze that works for you. There are lots that you could mix yourself and trouble shoot that way. I don't use any clear commercial glazes, so someone may have a better recommendation there. Zinc free clear? Personally I mix "Kitten's Clear."

    Hey! Soo happy to see you have a new kiln opening!! How awesome your partner is doing clay stuff with you! The closest my husband gets to doing anything with my pottery is carrrying the boxes back and forth to the shed for me!! Oh and trying to work around all the pots that I have drying everywhere!! I love the little soup bowls! I may make some today! By the way, I made some chain links a few days ago and kept forgetting to link them! Just kept making links! lol. My gosh that square bowl is absolutely stunnnning!!! Oh my!!!! When you said to ignore the pan stuck to the side I was laughing soo hard!! Hope it came off ok!! For the crack in your skull piece, which I can not even imagine how long that took to do, use bisque fix or make some paper clay with the same clay that you used for the plate and fill it. When you do this on a bisque piece be sure to burnish the paper clay on the crack. I have done this for several years and I swear I have not had it fail a single time!! I hope you’re able to save that!! It’s soo beautiful!!! The flower plate is soo pretty! I would go online and find the number for Colombia and ask them what clear glaze you should use!! I don’t want you to not be able to use the rest of the glazes you have!! Just a hint when cutting things out like the plate. Never go to a point like a V when you cut things out. Always use a curve like a c. Hope that helps. What a great kiln opening.

      Hi lovely Michele, I know it was so funny finding them fused, when I looked at them again after the video I realised they had made themselves into a chipa and dip 😆 I did manage to separate them it took a lot of grinding but they will get refired to covere their bare spots. Thankyou for all the advice, I will try to do something with the cracks. I have had quite a lot of breakages lately, all my little Tuesday group had, just goes like that sometimes doesn't it. I had made a jug last week with a coil on the front and a couple bits had come off when I went in this week so I threw it on the floor and smashed it, it felt good doing that 😃 It is nice that Tolga wants to do a bit of clay work with me, however he is overly ambitious for someone right at thr beginning and now wants me to help him make clay mopeds with flags on, told him it was too ambitious but he said I believe you can teach me. I might have to encourage him to take up a different hobby 😅 sounds too stressful having him playing with clay 🤣 xx

      @@ceramicsbyjulia8552 Omg how funny! That is a bit ambitious!! Hahaha!! I’m glad you got the pieces apart. I’m sorry for all the breakage. You know I have that happen to me when the weather changes. I think it’s due to the fact that the clay acts so differently when it’s hot and humid and when it’s dry and cold.
