      @@brianbrian4016 Very true. It would be suicide for Voyager to try to destroy the Voth ship with them still inside. @john smith the ships in Star Trek aren't reliant on being armored for dealing with debris or weapons fire.
      That's what they have the Deflector, the Warp Field and the Shield for. It would make perfect sense not to specifically bother with armoring the hull at all, but rather using materials that offer other properties, such as being easy to replicate or manufacture, possibly being lightweight and offering other properties such as low conductivity, radiation resistance etc.
      The ships are probably made mostly of plastics, ceramics and specific lightweight alloys.

    The best thing about this episode is it subverted expectations. You expected Tom Paris to blow a hole in the side of the city ship with the torpedo over ridge, you expected Chakotay to make a speech and for the Voth to consider the lineage and you expected Voyager to find some last minute way out of the situation. All of these expectations were proven false, for once Voyager was totally at the mercy of a technologically superior race and only by doing something human like the scientist falling into line saved them.

      Makes you wonder why they never saw any of the Voth again. Given their technology, you'd think they'd have a presence all over the Delta Quadrant.
      But I guess the budget was limited, they'd already set up the Borg a few episodes earlier and were spending money for the Borg set peices....which they go their moneys worth from.
      The borg were the flavour of the decade in 90s Trek. Fans wanted Borg, the movie First Contact was out and it seemed a better bet to focus on a species already established as "scary"
      But. In retrospect, we have hindsight of years to look back and ask why they didn't use the Voth more. Why didn't they do this or that. They just had to appease the board at paramount and get more sex appeal and viewers...whu g equaled money.

      truthhurts101 not sure what you mean by that. If you mean ship size Star Wars has way bigger ships. Hell darth Vader a flag ship is literally twice the size of this voth ship voth ship in this video=citadel class dreadnought AKA voth city ship which is a little over 8km long. Vaders flag ship=executor class super star destroyer which was 19km long.

      @Hazardous
      An actual Voth City Ship is the size of Ireland.
      Another example of a monumentally vast vessel/structure from Star Trek is the Iconian/Solenae Dyson Spheres, which can teleport to other Galaxies. They are so big the inner surface of their spherical hull contains land and sea equivalent to 250 million Earth's. Actual numbers given in-setting.
      Also, Star Wars technology levels are vastly lower than Star Trek's, with the exception of AI and the fact that Star Wars uses Hyper-Lane Travel, rather than FTL, which is a lot faster, but requires mapped lanes. In Star Trek, the Hyper-Space equivalent travel is called Underspace and was used by the Vaadwuar to make lightning fast strikes on their enemies, further adding credence to how much faster Hyper-Space travel is.

      @hazardous8301 3 года назад

      @@alphanerd7221 lol this comment shows how little research you do. The Doomsday machine is less then half the size of the voth city ship at only 2,700 meters long. That’s barely bigger then a standard Imperial II Star destroyer 😂. As for your nonsense about the both city ship, it’s literally HALF the length of the Executor. The executor also has the same length to height ratio as the City ship. I will give you that voth city ship has a larger width to length ratio then the Executor, but you’re absolutely delusional if you think that one ship having a wider width to length ratio makes it over all even comparable to a ship twice it’s length, when both ships are longer then they are wide. I’ll give you the Dyson sphere. But stuff like the Dyson spheres, is more of the exception then the reality, given that as I’ve already proven with the whole doomsday machine issue, even ships considered massive in the Star Trek universe, are pretty standard size for Star Wars capital ships.

'Oops, I thought this wouldn't work. Can we still talk about you teleporting my ship back out of your huge dreadnought, which probably also has more firepower and shields and faster engines? No?'. This is a tremendous achievement for us - in our entertainment no less, that we decide to use it to imagine a civilization far superior to ours and see beyond our own culture, and recognize in it our own positive and negative attributes. As a Catholic I fully appreciate this episode's indictment of how the Catholic Church handled the Galileo Galilei case, which was outside the authority its own teachings give it(it has no legitimate political or civil authority to punish even an errant scientist or a deceiver, and no faithful Catholic could defend its secular actions, such as military incursions and civil/political interference). While it assumes the single-source theory of evolution, fiction is free to imagine many things, reasonable and unreasonable - what was important about the episode was the relationship among truth, power, and well-being, and the playing out of these elements both rings true, and speaks for itself. I know people will count this a not-so-great episode of Voyager and the current generation will not appreciate it except as an elevated form of ammunition for anti-religious sentiment, I couldn't care less that most of it was people standing around and talking, because of what they were talking about. If there was more time, maybe there could have been more action to demonstrate the discussion, but you only have 45 minutes a week, and why can't it be a shootout one week and a philosophical debate the next, and a combination of both throughout?

You're telling me they can make this tech but they don't have the collective maturity as a species to accept that they originate from Earth, and their sense of identity is so fragile that accepting they are related to mammals would destroy it? It just doesn't make sense. How much do you think we could have evolved if we allowed the Church and other religious groups to continue persecuting scientists instead of telling them where to stick it and minding our scientific business? My bet is, not much. It's difficult to make advancements when you're worried that the next idea you propose might get you burned at the stake by religious authorities that don't know their proper place and insist on keeping everyone ignorant and even constantly in danger of dying of some infectious disease if it means their precious little doctrines won't be challenged.

      I've always wanted to see Star Trek Online follow this arc. Here is how I envision it.
      Your doing something on Earth, when suddenly a Worm-Hole opens in orbit. This is amazing because holy shit a Worm-Hole. From it, a damaged Voth fleet emerges, asking for help. Before you can properly respond, more Voth ships come through and open fire on the first group of ships, it's Voth vs Voth. After a battle, more Voth ships come through, but they too are damaged, but they belong to the faction the second group belonged to. Then, Borg ships start emerging from the Worm-Hole. You team up with the Voth to fight off these Borg and are told about a civil war taking place amongst the Voth.
      The Voth Empress decided to reveal the truth to the citizens, that they hail from Earth. This caused quite a bit of confusion, but was eventually accepted by the majority of citizens, and plans for a pilgrimage to Earth began. However, the Inquisition did not like this, and tried to depose the Empress, created two warring factions, as the Inquisition tried to quash all ideas of them originating from Earth. However, the Voth millitrary leader accepted that they came from Earth, but he did not want a peaceful pilgrimage, he instead wanted to conquer the Earth, and a third faction was created.
      When you travel through the Worm-Hole you find a planet under siege. Voth loyalists(who embrace the truth and wish peaceful pilgrimage), defend a new capital they were kicked to by the Inquisition, from the invading Inquisition, which was itself blind-sided by opportunistic Borg, who have decided to attack their ancient enemies - The Voth. So now this world is clamped between two hostile factions in the Voth Inquisition and The Borg. This planet would become a Space and Ground Warzone for players to take part in.
      The Worm-Hole created was a test for a new technology developed by the Voth Loyalists , which the other factions try to capture. They close the Earth Worm-Hole and open a new one in a different location, since Voth and Borg pouring into Earth space is really bad.

      Instead of Nemesis have the Picard arc a Voth mother ship returning home would have been an awesome storyline... Especially if they found that Earth was too over crowded and decided to Terraform Venus!

      @Klaus Toth Not bey the time of STO. By then the federation had transwarp/slipstream and could fight voth ships on a nearly even keel.

    I cant even imagine how long it took the Voth to construct that ship.

      Kevin Howard what about all the technology. I was thinking how amazing their transporters are. Star Fleet can beam people, the Voth can beam ships. There isn't a number to count all the atoms that need to be kept track of so that you can put the ship back together
