I appreciate how honest and insightful Simon is. He doesn't conceal the truth to benefit his personal image, yet he shares his true thoughts and struggles which actually boosts his image. I don't even know if that made any sense, but moral if the story is Simon, you're a great role model, share lots of candid moments (I mean you vlog-that says it all :) ) & keep up the good...EXCELLENT work.
Comment from 2 years in the future: I agree! This vlog is a great way to not get *too* distracted on my work/study breaks. Watching him work makes me wanna work more too.
I liked the singing parts :( Showing what was a big part of your life, and being able to find time for it whilst doing your PHD was cool to see. Can't please everyone though
Awesome. Think you're going to become really big on this platform. You're in a relatable, stressful and time consuming situation, but also have an energy and attitude towards it, that is something to strive for. I wish I had some of that 'I don't see tiredness as an excuse not to do something.' Great work
I am a Physics Undergrad, and I absolutely love your vlogs. There is so much to learn from you; time management and how to be a nice human being. Thank you so much for existing! :)
So happy to see your channel doing so well now Simon, been a subscriber since your first day in the life of a Physics student, and now loving your new content, so happy you are finally getting the recognition you deserve
I'm sure that won't be a problem, I'm a first year at the University of Melbourne and I'm hoping to do a PhD in the future, your vlogs have been a great insight into what it's like doing a PhD so I hope there are many more to come!!
I've had a terrible experience with research that has left me hating it, but your videos have shown me that it's not all bad and that a lot of it has to do with time management and personal outlook :) thank you so much
Im 15 years old Simon, And I have found your videos very damn interesting. Love the content and im even learning from your videos. Topics that are beyond my range as of now
Man I connect so much with all the study problems you observe with your thesis work, I keep hoping I can apply your wisdom while I'm still undergrad That restaurant-game place looks so amazing. And yooo thanks for the playlist :D Bro I need that climbing place in my life
whenever you upload a new video I watch it over and over and over again until you upload the next one, I'm kindof obsessed. You're easily my favorite RUclips vlogger!
Simón, you spend a lot of time editing this amazing videos!! And I must admit you're life as hard and funny as everybody else and that makes you more real. Endless thanks for your blog!
I can really see the improvments you have made over the time you started filming your life. Especially this video, its much better than some previous works/vlogs you have made, not as much as the content( its always been good) but more of the quality and overall Cinematography. Such as the editing, music, etc. Thanks for doing these videos keep doing them. (I like the new name :P)
Been following you quietly for the past year or so. I start my Phd next week and have decided to VLOG the journey on the bases of your videos. First video went up today and so far the feedback has been positive. Keep doing what you're doing, you're influencing people in more ways than you think!
Commenting before I watch it that I absolutely love these week long video projects of yours. The academic focus makes it for me. Other people try and fail :)
Hey Simon! You have truly been an inspiration for me and you have motivated me to work hard in life and you taught me that when you dedicate yourself towards doing something you achieve it. Plus, you have taught me to balance our life! I truly admire your work ethic and your attitude! Thank you!
Doing work in inorganic chemistry redox mechanisms and its pretty hard to organize all the different things going on with the work. I really loved the colored sticky note on paper thing you did! I'm going to run out and get some today so I can map out all the facets of the research - thank you!!
I'm blown away by ur chilled out confidence that everything will just fall into place...i spend most of my phd doubting and quietly panicking...with the occasional maybe i can do this...will try to have more faith :) (ironically i am otherwise and was previously quite a confident person :S )
Also loved the way u stopped the music when u took the ear bud out..man i should wait til the end of the vid to comment - so happy to hear u are planning a non science career and still see the value in the phd :)
Simon, these week in the life of a PhD student videos are absolutely fab! I'm a 3rd year maths student considering doing a PhD and for me, the most interesting thing is your work life balance- you have a great attitude to it all. Really enjoying all the other videos on the channel too 😃
I love watching you because you'll be finishing your first draft around the time I'll be finishing highschool, so it'll be cool to end it around the same time
Its really cool to see places like the board games cafe in Exeter. Maybe you could do other videoes about the places you recommend going in Exeter and where you frequent most. Great vlog as usual!
I'm currently in high school and I absolutely hated physics. It wasn't until I started watching your channel that I actually became interested in physics and now it's my favorite class. Thank you so much for your inspiration!
Honestly, you just keep grinding away at it. For me, the classes I found most difficult/the least enjoyable were Calc II and Calc III, so you just have to put in the grunt work to be able to get through/understand those topics.
love from me!.❤ You are so awesome. Bcuz of your hard work, every week I am motivated to study. The fact that you are doing a PhD and you can laugh it off, makes me feel like my daily procrastination are so not worth it!! Tysm P.S. Wish you made more frequent videos ( I know you are doing the whole week thing, but still xD )
Max Richter is awesome :D been listening to him for quite some time, Morgan/Sleep/Leftovers albums are amazing! Also the works he does with Grace Davidson are unreal!
Happy New Year Simon! Awww shame there's no singing (I really enjoy seeing what other uni choirs do as I've auditioned for ours this year) but an enjoyable vlog nonetheless :-) Congrats on getting the code working at last!
Hi Simon! I'm about to start my second year of Journalism in February at Rhodes University in South Africa. Although I don't really understand your science and PhD related stuff, I still find these videos super interesting :D
Love this bro; not going to lie, really enjoyed it without the singing parts though! For some reason I find these videos so interesting. Keep up the great work; love this series!
Max Richter and Johann Johannsson are some of my favourite composers! Olafur Arnalds is also fantastic and I made a playlist of all three that's like 3 hours long which I always listen to while I study, its great!
Simon, i always listen to The Theory of Everything soundtrack, Johann Johannsson creates such beautiful pieces of music. I knew before i opened the playlist that it would be there, great taste sir!
As a math student, writing and debugging code often makes me want to cry (it's always a missing semicolon lol) I have so much respect for people that are proficient in programming.
You're getting really good at cutting things in a way that keeps the energy high. Nice work dude :)
+Thomas Frank thanks! I'm trying basically every trick in the book by this point haha
I appreciate how honest and insightful Simon is. He doesn't conceal the truth to benefit his personal image, yet he shares his true thoughts and struggles which actually boosts his image. Awesome. Think you're going to become really big on this platform. Keep going! It's hard work, but worth it (Senior in EE here)
RaidsEpicly just want to ask its hard to keep up and work you know all those math parts so how do you catch up to your expectations?
Honestly, you just keep grinding away at it. For me, the classes I found most difficult/the least enjoyable were Calc II and Calc III, so you just have to put in the grunt work to be able to get through/understand those topics.
2nd semester civil engineering student here! Follow your dreams!
Taking Calc II right now. I agree, it's very dull but useful once you understand the concepts.
Quality throwing up sounds. Quality content.

Make the most of it while it lasts ;P
