Birdsnests are not beginner SPS..they are notoriously fussy about phosphate levels and in my experience not as hardy as green slimer. In reefing forums beginners kill birdsnests more than any other SPS due to young tanks having unstable nutrient levels.

Ouch! 😬 I'd personally try to move the blenny if you can catch it, cause its probably not going to stop once it is done with Marvin the Martian. I think a quick search online esp forums and youtube, Leptoseris and Cyphastrea are generally regarded as sps. After all the term sps and lps are hobby grade terms. Leptoseris and Cyphastrea are considered sps since they are 1. Fast growing 2. Polyps are smaller than what you would would expect from an LPS. 3. Love high flow
I think your forest fire might be a bubblegum? At least the camera angle & lighting has it looking like it has a blue base? Beautiful looking colony, either way.
Thanks Mike! 🙏 Is that the difference between the FF Digi and Bubblegum? I never knew. I purchased mine as FF Digi and when I first bought it, it had almost black skin, orange polyps, and green growth tips. Now in my tank it has white skin, orange polyps and green growth tips. 👍 Thanks again!
Great video! Your frags grew quick! I’m struggling with slow growth and pale colors. It turns out my Nitrates and phosphates are both 0; so I started dosing Nitrates. I do have some algae on the reef floor, so I’m guessing I shouldn’t dose phosphates 🤷.

I've heard from at least one other reefer that his nutrient export was too good and some acros suffered from 0 phosphates. Similarly on some reef2reef posts as well.

@@TheReeferYT if I may weigh in, po4/no3 is a complicated relationship. Zero of one, but some of the other will quickly lead to a bigger discrepancy. That is, for example, in my 90 gallon mixed reef, a while back I had ~50(!!!) no3, but 0 po4. I began dosing po4, and after a few weeks, the no3 came down to ~5. Works the other way around too. Lastly, I've found that in my personal experience, when I have a big discrepancy between no3 and po4 that I get cyano. Hopefully this was helpful.
Good tip on not getting poci. My first tank filled with watermelon poci and never again will I get a poci. The same goes for encrusting Monti. As you tell, forest fire is my favourite.

@@TheReeferYT I have bubblegum, and pink smoothie, all three are different if you look close enough. Bubblegum has brighter toxic green tips and whiter skin base. Ff has even light green colouration on skin base and tip. Pink smoothie has pink polyps and dark green skin base.

The green Slimmer for me has been the hardest coral I have owned and has survived low/high/no nutrients and freezing/extreme heat.

Slimers are waaaaaay more tolerant of wonky nutrient levels than birdsnests. In the wild the slimer is almost regarded as a nuisance coral.

I feel my acros do best at 10ppm nitrate and 0.05 phosphate, anytbing lower and they turn pale. I also dose acropower.

What to set lights to. Blues. Whites.
A mix of both, SPS need at least a few hours of white (daylight spectrum) a day. AB+ is proven.
Leptoseris and cyphastrea are LPS
