Thank you so much! Glad you found this technique useful. Great thing about this one is that if they defend it, it opens them up for many other attacks such as sweeps or other submissions, at least with the version from guard. The other ones work even better than the guard version.
You're very welcome. I got all of them from Flavio himself at a seminar. The last one I show is kind of one I worked on on my own, but the others are all him.

@@whateveritwasitis Depends where your grip is at, if it is behind the neck, it'll just be uncomfortable for them. And with the step over, you need solid timing as well. That being said, I still get it from the stepover far more than any other position.
The leverage is different with the cross collar, plus with the same side grip, opponents aren't really expecting any attack off of it. With cross collar, they are. You could call it a step over choke from side control, but I specifically asked Flavio about that choke from that position at a seminar last year. Still a canto choke, but names really don't matter.
I’m not up on the rules completely, but on Chadi’s channel ( he’s another RUclipsr who’s a black belt in judo), he talked about judo’s constant rule changes and mentioned it now being illegal. But I haven’t looked it up, I took his word for it, the video was from last year sometime.

Sweet man thanks. This looks vicious.
It's so simple too. And their defense can open up other attacks
The best variation and explanation that I’ve seen of the Canto choke! Thanks

Great content. Quick videos & effective info with no nonsense or fluff. Thank You.

Best demonstration of the Canto that ive seen. Also!, Canto from bottom just blew my mind! Thank you
It’s available from an open/seated guard position as well. Canto showed it at a seminar I went to last year. It’s slick, this fits my game better

Can't see what the other arm is doing, the hand thats not in the collar.
In which version of the choke? From guard ? Other arm is reaching underneath their leg. In the other positions, the arm is under their arm.
I caught this last night but I couldnt finish. whats the mistake from the finish position?
Which position did you catch it from ?

Canto choke looks the exact same as a Peruvian Neck Tie in the gi.
Just saying
Kinda but hand positioning for Peruvian is different, it’s in the windpipe usually and with both hands, while this one is just a single hand
If you squint hard enough everything kinda looks like everything else
Not so easy. Everyone sees it coming from a mile away and it's too easy to defend
