2012 RetroSkins Highlights: Baltimore Ravens vs Washington Redskins

  • The 2010's wasn't much of a decade for the Redskins (although the tally of two division titles does top the 2000's, which is sad). Even so, the 2012 season has to be counted among the bright spots in team history. With the much-hyped RGIII briefly living up to expectations, the '12 Redskins were a magical bunch.
These Redskins shrugged off a 3-6 start with an inspired 7-game winning streak (including 5 division wins over that span) to finish the season 10-6 and claim a rare division title. This match-up with their cross-state sort-of rivals landed in the middle of that streak with the season still on the brink. The Ravens of course, were good. Very good. Baltimore was on the cusp of a division title with 4 games remaining in the season, and headed for bigger things. But it was the Redskins who prevailed in this game that started as a wild shoot-out and ended with high drama.
The high of the RGIII era wouldn't last, but for this day and this one incredible season, football magic was back in DC.
The Marvelous Marv Albert alongside Rich Gannon on the call from a packed FedEx Field (there was a time that it was so...) for this early December not-to-be-missed thriller.

What a bittersweet game. Beating the future SB champs in a wild OT finish but it was also the beginning of the end of RG3 as we knew him.

Every time I see clips of Trent Williams it makes me sick we couldn’t keep him. He may go down as one of the greatest left tackles in history. First ballot hall of famer

He didn’t want to stay and I don’t blame him. Not sure exactly who to blame mostly but seems like Bruce Allen is the one. Plus the team’s doctor for not diagnosing that bump on his head. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Great game and sad as others have mentioned. The RGIII injury and Cousins leading the team to victory made this one historic.

Bro Alfred was such a beast in 2012 every run he was breaking 2-3 tackles, such a underrated piece of that season

Crazy part is if Baltimore recovers that fumble, RG3 never gets hurt. I’m sure they would’ve ran the clock out

turning point game, for the team and RGIII. Shannahan should have gone straight to Cousins the rest of the way. Griffin needed to heal.

Seeing this again reminds me how good this team was. Rg3 should have took on the corner or went out of bounce. Who knows how gd this team could’ve been had he never gotten injured

Obviously a bittersweet game bc of the RG3 injury… but still one of my all time fave skins games. What a comeback! Garçon, Morris etc were warriors on the field.

These are the kind of games that keep you hooked as a Skins fan. They win enough to keep your hope alive. They suck most of the time but they pull out these wins against great teams. I think every Skins fan should take a moment to remember the greatness of Santana Moss and Alfred Morris.

You guys had a good team that year. Drafted 2 good QBs it turned out. RG3 was something special ( like Terrell Davis) and easily could still be in the prime of his career. Hate to see injuries ruin a career..even my team's biggest rivals

The refs just hating us. It seems every opponent we face plays perfectly, no mistakes. 🙄
