I’m in Shanghai now and though most of the footages above i cant see on our web, i believe they are valid. I‘m a business owner myself and from what i can tell, 40-60% of small businesses will perish if the quarantine last longer than a month from now. We have to continue paying our rent, and salaries/social securities to our employees. 1) Government mandates firms like us to pay at least minimal salaries to our staffs(¥2590+ss¥1628). Laying off staffs is the last option if the company quenches its cashflow. 2) Government indeed gives order to SOC to exempt firms rent for 6 months but in reality, SOCs are using private companies to sign contracts with us tenants.
This experience will motivate more Chinese to migrate to other countries. Lockdowns motivated people in Western countries to move out of apartments and into homes. And from cities to regional locations.
Sadly China is trying to prevent people from leaving. I heard some people have gotten their passports cut up at the airport. Many have indeed left though, mostly wealthy people. The CCP probably isn't very happy that all that capital is trying to leave in hordes.
You act like it’s that easy. Any Westerner in most nations can just up and leave but most Chinese cant afford it and the visa process is extremely corrupted and takes years to get processed.

Also, why are “emergency food supplies” made out of fresh vegetables that tend to rot quickly? What you need in this kind of situation is to distribute MREs, cans, dried food or anything else with high nutrition content, small size and long shelf life.
Why do you believe what little you see? They are fed fake food made literally with cardboard. Its not about feeding them, its about how little they have to spend to not fall into inhumane treatement. "Fresh vegetables" , you poor naive mind 👀
What people should also do all over the world, well those who wants to... is grow food forests, fruit trees everywhere. food rather than lawns, green the deserts (look up Geoff Lawtons work) self sustaining housing (Reynolds) self sustaining cities K(like china has started in some places) etc..
From my understanding, their diet is made by fresh foods. They don't normally eat frozen foods, so because of this the average person will go to the grocery stores every 2 to 3 days.
I’m a college student in China and I’ve been locked in my dorm for 2 months now. My school performed pretty well, the distributed meals are free and I participated as a volunteer as well. But I think the main problem is about control of information. Basically we can only get informed through platform like WeChat, no official reports anywhere and in my school, the positive student cannot be reported officially because the government doesn’t allow to do so. So my school just get those infected ones to quarantine and they just live upstairs of me, so I knew about these details. I mean it’s just so upset to come through this.
From what I can tell from other people in China the problem is people are getting the virus and are continuously testing positive. Meaning a new strain and maybe a new evolved disease. That is all the info I have sorry.
Suicide rates high, depression high, mental health problems high, domestic violence high, increase in social disorder.... but at least COVID numbers are low... sounds logical to me! :)
Maybe if they would actually allow the people of Shanghai to eat healthily and socialize there would be little to no cases at all. When you get depressed, it’s more likely you will get sick. No socializing, no sharing important germs to create immunity. Honestly, how dumb could some people be? I feel like this isn’t about the Covid cases but about control.
While here in Stockholm, Sweden we have never been in full lock down since this started in 2019, restrictions yes. But not lockdown. Now it's summer here, all restrictions have been lifted.
your videos are a part of the full-movies. I had already watched the full video of the first one. Those two women had got Covid-19, the local community had told them to go to degnisigned place to quarantine. Then the women rejected to go there, At last The police came , the policemen Knocked the door ,but they did not open it. So the police had to break down to force them to quarantine in order to their innocent neighbours.
Thanks for sharing about the situation here in Shanghai. It’s incredibly tough for most of us but we are keeping a positive attitude and hope things will be “normal” soon.
Summon a mass prayer ritual. I'd love to switch places with you. Quarantines, restrictions, and isolation mean nothing to me after I had an epiphany that I didn't even survive the first round. And a corpse can't really die twice so I don't mind being a hostage.
Shanghai is occupied territory. Go back long enough before the CCP and you will find it was it's own country with it's own leadership. After they were conquered the people of Wu were denied the right to self govern. Like a child whose inheritance has been stolen the CCP are now the current occupiers of Shanghai and have every right to tell them enough is enough.
forgot? tienanmen square was china actively suppressing the democracy that came with economic integration...this is just a result of an authoritarian state
China did not forget democracy but China did prioritize economic developments. Shanghai relaxed the restrictions too quickly, which allowed the local outbreak, which forced the government to impose wide lockdowns with chaotic management. Luckily the outbreak has dwindled now and Shanghai is expected to reopen in June.
true, US remembered democracy in favor of economic development... freedom to protests, freedom to shoot anyone you like, freedom to die... yes we are paying the price to have outbreak controlled and death toll minimized, we are paying the price to have life back not normal gradually
Why there isn't any poll about the normal Chinese people opinions about the policies? Only cheery picking several 'convincing' cases won't really convince that much. I want to know the statistics, not what the media pushed to me.
I love how they characterize this as frustrations among the Chinese people. It’s absolute tyranny and evil filmed for all to see and our corporate media in America apologizes for it.
If the CCP walks back on the zero policy the people will question the communist gov. actions. It may be quite some time for this to end there. Hence why they are telling everyone its coming in from foreign sources, food, or other excuses.
i'm a student in shanghai ,this is the very first time i feel UPSET and DISAPPOINTTED for chinese government ,endless lockdown, terrible management .....i cannot understand this kind of solution to virus, this is not the case happens in 2020,we have to consider it seriously
As a Chinese citizen living in the US, I wanted to say that the images and footages are authentic and true, and that I am furious and disappointed in the government. And I genuinely hope that the atrocities of the CCP will backfire on itself sometime. However, it is equally important for one to also realize that these images and footages are carefully selected by western media to deliberately show the worst of the worst, and they will never show you the other side of the story, which I believe is equally important as a media to not conceal. This is especially true for WSJ after my years of subscription experience with them. While they boast press freedom, and rightfully so, their contents and reports are in fact deliberately chosen to influence the public opinions.
So what? It’s being done all over the world. At least it’s better than having a fully government controlled state media that blatantly lies. Like what I’m having here. There are no other sources to flock to. With you Americans, you have diversified sources of information to formulate your opinion. That is your luxury. Enjoy it.
Thanks for sharing! I agree with what you have said. I am living in Shanghai and whilst the situation is pretty bad here I don’t know anyone who has personally seen most of these things and it isn’t as common as the media makes it out to be. That is not to say it is at all acceptable but it’s a very fine line when people are making opinions when they aren’t in Shanghai
making an authoritarian state the global supply chain hub is never a good idea. this is a key issue with globalism. where cheap labor is, there's almost certainly bad governance
Yes, even after all of this, Chinese people don’t know what’s going on. The hatred towards foreigners doesn’t change. It’s all because they’re closed off from the world. Sigh
The most surprising thing about China is the silence and acquiescence of the Chinese people for more than 70 years of Communist rule. Of course baring the protest in 1989. But most times nearly 1.3 billion people have accepted this way of life as normal. I think the answer must be in the fact that the CCP has given them development and wealth so it compensates for handing over their freedom.
but its not 1.3 billion people living this way is it? its just shanghai. Everywhere else in china is fine with the 15 day quarantine of individuals instead of locking down the entire province.

We have to continue paying our rent, and salaries/social securities to our employees. 1) Government mandates firms like us to pay at least minimal salaries to our staffs(¥2590+ss¥1628).

Enjoy it.
