When I went to China. Delivery was super convenient and quick. I knew that they were hard working but I did not know it was that bad 😢 hope for reform and new laws soon. They need to have a delivery worker union, so they do not need to compete against each other nor race to the bottom.
Workers union in China is not allowed. Wild competition is allowed. Excess regulation and workers right protection like in the Western countries have long term consequences.
In china there are no unions, no deals between corporations, nothing is allowed. You enter the rat race once you're born and leave it upon retirement or death
I worked as a delivery driver for 2 months then I quit, not just the company is scamming us, but also the customers, one time I had an order to take someone 5km, but i ended up driving her 12km, but she only had to pay for 5 since it's already in the system, while in another instance, a customer ordered me the transport a fricking fridge, on my motorcycle then proceeded to yell at me for refusing.
I live in Beijing. I finally worked out how to give tips to delivery drivers on Meituan last year. (I don'y speak Chinese 😏) You can see how many people have given tips to a driver and I was shocked at how low it is. It's maybe a couple of times a month. Why don't people at least tip? They must know how badly you are paid.
Same thing happen all over the world. The delivery company took WAY TOO MUCH share from their drivers. Making the amount they receive not worth it anymore.
I used to work full time as Uber in USA, although the disrespect is different, I fully understand the slow down and loss of income as well as there being too many delivery people flooding the market.
This way of doing gig work has been a major issue globally. We see the same in the US/EU and likely in most countries where Gig work has little to no protection. People are hired as individual contractors instead of employees putting all the risk with the worker while the company who really just operates the platform makes bank. Unionization is the only way to break out of this.
The algorithms for food delivery people in Indonesia is also equally dehumanising. It looks like our local companies modelled it after what's tormenting these guys. I always try to tip because with how cheap my subscription is & the crazy food discounts, you've got to wonder what they actually earn in the end?
Competition creates "innovations" but at the same time it can also lead to "exploitations". When the companies starts the pricing war, it is a win-win for the company and the consumers, but it is a "bad news" for the delivery men. This kind of competition is so cancerous. Any government on earth should do more on regulating the delivery apps to protect the livelihood of delivery men. Since all of them are economically vulnerable people, if any government wants to develop its own delivery app as part of their socialist platform, I don't think it is a bad idea at all.
I respect and sympathize with these people who bring convenience to our lives regardless of the scorching heat or the cold winter, day or night. I always feel that the delivery time requirements on their platform are too strict. In addition, if they want to deliver the goods to your door, they will inevitably have conflicts with the security personnel hired by the community. The government should formulate corresponding policies in this regard.
Unfortunately something similar also happens Indonesia. Gojek and Grab ride hauling apps at first pay their drivers quite well leading to many people becoming drivers. After many years, the companies are running out of investor's money and started increasing the amount they take for every payments and in some cases until 30-40% of every payment are taken to the companies instead of the drivers but the price stays low because they don't want to lose customers. Yet these companies still spend a lot of money paying famous people for advertising.
I am Chinese. There are multiple reasons causing this issue. Firstly, the main users who order delivery are still not wealthy enough. Although they are referred to as "middle-class," they have limited budgets and are price-sensitive. If platforms increase the delivery fees for riders, customers may choose other options. Secondly, customers are under the pressure of the "996 culture," leading to the fast-paced nature of society as a whole. Finally, there are insufficient decent job opportunities. According to statistics, among delivery riders nationwide, the proportion of those with an associate degree or higher is 30%(including about 10% with bachelor’s and master’s degrees), resulting in intense competition.
Everyone wants cheap delivery. Everyone wants to get paid the most for their time. Companies want to maximize profit. You can't have all three happening at once. The more people hear about getting paid more, the more people want to do it, and the less they get paid.
Dont do this job. It doesnt pay well. It operate as gig work under demand and supply principle. When more people do delivery work it also cause people who order foods to pay higher delivery charges as well in order to pay for the increased volume of people doing the delivery. Everyone end up miserable over it.
@@Andy0770 yeah of course rather than having people earning less than they can eat, we should pay more instead of seeing people beneath you begging and suffering

It's an easy entry level, easy to be replaced job. Now it's overcrowded. If you don't do it, others will. People rushed in like bee for honey. Surely the bubble will burst.
The problem is some baoan who think they’re superior than these drivers. In my xiao qu, one guy was asking where the building is and instead of answering he started yelling and ask him to look for it himself meanwhile the baoan is just smoking and watching douyin… as a daily user, i always try to give 5* review
When your spitting in your plate and you live in America or Europe, remember this thing : it can be bad but actually is the less worse of the choices you have.
This industry never provided these guys or Didi driver a stable income. These guys are super hard working and have always made a pittance. But the real issue is that if they are late or someone complains, however unfounded it is then they get fined by the platforms. Sometimes the fine is 10x what the amount they would have been for that delivery is. also the average they make per delivery including Shanghai is at most RMB5 per delivery.... The reality is that the platforms and businesses need to share more of their income with these guys and customers need to be nicer. till then yes there will be some meltdowns. But neither you or I would endure 1% of what these guys go through
This is what capitalism turns into. If the market is allowed to free reign, then employers will continue to exploit their workers until harm to workers and society occur. This is why pure capitalism doesn't work. In order to have a balance, there has to be a way to make sure that employers always think of avoidance of harm to humans and the environment. This is the role of the government. Thus, in this case, the government is to blame for a lack of regulation on the employers' greed and exploitation of their workers. The Wests love to demonize China for tyranny. However, this example shows why we need to demonize pure capitalism in China, and why China needs to go its own way in social governance.
Same garbage job in France, and I assume worldwide. Especially Deliveroo, pay went down about half or more in a few years. Uber is a little better, but when there are orders (can easily spend hours making 0, even during rush hour at times), and the self-employed status is also the worst possible one. It's a dumping system, I believe, and the end goal is being replaced by drones or autonomous vehicles once that will be allowed.
Chinese residents care too much about family, the anti-human idea that you can give everything for family will make so many people schizophrenic because of high-pressure work, and I've remained single all my life nobody dares to mess with me.
The situation may deteriorate further as, Chinese people aren't Confident about long term investment in the Economy after the Largest Real estate Scam & Tight Scrutinization of Financial markets. Moreover, the declining population is also making people anxious that their Long term Capital can sustain their value years after. But, instead of investing all this money into short term Capital people are saving it to later on flee from the Country. And,
Yeah this is kinda algorithm fault, but also it's just a competition like in any other market.. if you are a CEO of a company and you are competing with many other similar companies, usually you are extremely stressed as well, especially if you are barely surviving as a company, so this is a problem. Also, this is the kind of relatively boring and dangerous job that shouldn't even be done by a human and hopefully will be automated with AI self-driving deliveries in the future. But that will only mean that they will make even less money, so as I said.. it's the problem of competition, like when farmers were replaced by machinery. This can really happen in any type of job, just this one is especially painful, because of how difficult this job by itself can be.
They should migrate if they cant find hope in mainland china. Dont waste your best years living in despair. There are many countries facing low fertility turnover and ageing issues. They will welcome you all with open arms.
Stress is everywhere; it’s a part of life. If you want to earn more, you work hard; if you want a better work-life balance, you work less. It’s about making choices based on your priorities.
The Chinese are very poor. For example, China 🇨🇳 has 2 million members of the 50 Cent Army. They used to be paid 0.5 yuan, equivalent to USD 7 cents, per comment. But now the government only paid them 0.05 yuan, a tenth of the previous rate. LOL
