- Ann experiments with several types of tape resist to find the most flexible, durable, water resistant, and stickiest! Links for all the tape used are below.
If you would enjoy a deeper learning of Ann's painting, decorating, and glazing process then check out Ann's Video Workshop Series. These workshops are very detailed (typically 1.5 - 2 hours in length) where Ann provides step by step instruction and are designed to help potters take their work to new levels of craftsmanship and artistry. vimeo.com/showcase/6725318

Your video is exactly what I was looking for.
Very informative and very appreciated!!!
Excelent, thanks for the video!!
Fabulous video - I have all the underglazes and now have to get the tape!!!!
Got for it and share your results! Thanks for watching!
Thanks!! I used chart tape once. My goal was to leave lines of unglazed areas. I found it was great going on and you could do nice flexible lines. But I dipped the piece and found it did run underneath so the lines weren't that crisp when I pulled off the tape. I'm going to try it again, but with brush on glazes to see if that makes a difference. It was really nice to see how they behave with underglazes...thanks for the video!
Thank you 💕
Its nice to see different techniques :) Thank You
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching!
This saves me a lot of time testing - thank you once again. Happy to know I can “borrow” some of hubby’s car detailing tape to use on pottery!😎
Ha! Glad you liked it...would love to see your work!
I have been doing a lot of tape resistant work and find that car detailing tape works best, but it is expensive. This was an excellent video, with lots of good information. Thanks.
Thanks Ken. It is nice to get the advice from someone who does this all the time. I appreciate that.
Thank you!
Thanks for watching Penny. Im glad you enjoyed it!
👏👏👏👏 thanks!!
Great video!! Subbed.
Cool thanks!
Just got tape in before seeing this Ann, fingers crossed it will work on raw glazed pots. I will try with underglaze and glaze to see the difference.
This is the tape I got: Selizo 14 Rolls 1/8” Whiteboard Pinstripe Tape Dry Erase Board Tape Line Thin Striping Graphic Chart Art Tape Grid Lining Tape for White Board
Thanks for sharing another informative video!
Hi Freddie. I have had a lot of people tell me that they like the whiteboard tape. I didnt have any to try. If you get a chance, share the results to the POttery STudio fb group.
@@annruel1982 Will do Ann, if memory serves me well.
Well done...subbed. The Awards video was epic!!!!!
Thanks for watching Tim, glad you enjoyed it!
@@LittleStreetPottery Are you related to Emily? She is awesome!
That was genius! Thank you for sharing! But I would like to ask: first you bisque fired the pieces, then you put the three coat of underglaze, (first Color) then the tapes? Then the second underglaze Color?
Thanks Gabriellla! I appreciate you watching....Yes, you have the sequence correct. I bisque fired them to cone 04....three layers of underglaze. Tape, then second layer of underglaze. Then I glazed with the Amaco C-11 Clear, then fired to cone 5. Let me know if you have any other questions!
Thanks for all of the great info! You said you used UG. Can this also be done with Stroke and Coat?
Hi Deb! I havent used Stroke and Coat, but I would think that you could. Sounds like there is some experimenting in your future :-)
Hi Anne, can I ask, which tape do you habitually use? The car detailing tape held promise but I want to know what you use on the daily. You are one of the best and most helpful ceramicists I know of on RUclips. So your advice and comments are always helpful and really appreciated. God bless you and your family and team at work.
Hey Carly...when I do use tape it is the car detailing tape for fine lines, the electrical tape for taping off smaller areas, and the painters tape for large areas. Good luck!
How many coats of the overlay underglaze did you use? I heard you say 3 coats for the first underglaze. Thank you!
👍🏻
Hello Ann, thanks for this very useful video. can I ask you if you have ever tried on greenware ? Why do you prefere painting on bisque ? thanks.
I only paint on greenware but taping is easier on bisque - thanks!
@@LittleStreetPottery Thank you!
I'm just wondering if you can use paint on glaze instead of underglaze?
If you are asking if you can use regular glaze with tape resist then, yes, you can. If you are asking if you can use "paint" *like acrylics or house paint" - then no.
@@LittleStreetPottery yes, I meant glaze. Thanks so much.
