- The home DIYer performs a humbucker to P90 pickup conversion and refinish on a beaten-up 1978 Yamaha LP copy:
I purchased this project guitar without hardware and decided to convert it to P90 pickups, and give it a new paint job - Koi fish themed of course.
The completed guitar was used for the sounds in this video, along with the following gear:
- Suhr Shiba Drive overdrive
- JTM 45 clone amp from Ceriatone
- Hotbox 60i MkV2 attenuation from Audiostorm
- Jensen Vintage C12N speakers X 4
- Shure SM57 mic
- Audient evo 8 interface
- Reaper DAW
- Eventide Space reverb
- Chris Lord-Alge Signature Series plugins from Waves
Most of the ideas and techniques in this video came straight from other RUclips videos/channels. Most notably:

Man that was alot of fun to watch, I loved the suspenseful part with uplifting happy riffs when you didn't quit the build hahaha. Huge amount of work with awsome results mate, look forward to the next build vid!👍👍
Thanks mate!! Yeah got a little carried away in some bits ...hmmm maybe the whole thing. Haha Good fun to do though. ...mostly
Hell yes Dan! Tidy job man!
Thanks matey!!
Those decals look great, really good job.
Thankyou so much!!
Great job!! A lot of work there. Beautiful finish. Well done. I built an LP kit from Artist Guitars at the beginning of the year. Enjoyed the learning process.
Thank you. Have plans for many more. Hope you do too!!
Greatness! Gorgeous guitar and cool video. The fail part was awesome too.
thank you so much!!
Sick work brother...and nice riffage too! \m/
Thanks heaps man. That was fun to be back recording even if it was just guitar.
@@dgreenshloff picked up the guitar again meself recently after neglecting it for ages, so this vid was nice timing
@@scottwoodside4458 cool. Do you still have the tele or another guitar?
@@dgreenshloff still the tele...needs a tune up though, action is terrible, so been bashing away on an old nylon string acoustic for now til I can take it in for a service
Boy, you really put in the work. Good job.. 👍🏻
Did you consider the humbucker sized P90s that just drop in? Or were you after the soapbar look?
Thank you!! I did consider the humbucker sized p90s but mainly wanted to have the full p90 sound, and look. From memory the winding is quite a bit different. Thanks for watching and commenting!
man, that is a masterful job, do you think a p90 conversion would be possible on an es 335?
Thanks mate!! I'm sorry I don't really know. I'm not all that familiar with the construction of the 335 and I wouldn't want to give you bad advice.
