I use a long handle bulb planter with handles to dig my soil samples. Works great and saves your hands and back!! 😮

Just got my results back. Was very surprised being I have reclaimed strip mine land. 4.5 OM and a 6.5 pH. Granted, it is only 2 in deep before I hit rock. Will take some years of soil builder rotations to get it showroom ready!

Lime or Sulfur depending on where one is at. much of southwestern and western USA is alkaline with 7-9 ph soils

So after you get the soil sample results and you add lime to it. How long does it take to see the real Ph results of adding pelletized lime ?
Does it pay to add fertilizer when tilling the soil or is more beneficial to add when planting ?
    Thanks

You should start to see it changing in a few months and at 6 months to a year but there’s a lot of factors. Organic matter and cec levels.
Also I only add fertilizer at planting time of seed. If the ph is low I’ll make sure to spend my resources on lime and not so much fertilizer
