I don’t quite understand the comparison as one is a planted clover plot and the other is a bare crop field. And as far as fertility and all that go good luck trying to even break even doing all these plot management practices on row crop production

The point is not about clover! The point is about having something green and growing in your plots no matter if it’s wheat, rye, oats whatever. Doesn’t really matter about the farmers field people always say you can’t compete with the farmers on soil health etc. Yes you can. Food plots are easy to fix. You can still disc your plots and improve soil you don’t need big no till drills etc. As mentioned I’m not for row crops or anything like that. This particular farm they never use cover crops. 5 mins down the road is another farmer and all his fields are beautiful and green filled with a cover crop of wheat. You can only get out of it what you put into it.

This is about deer hunting and creating food plot, not about farming. I think his comparison was made for food plots, doing no till on a food plot like a farmer versus cover crops and limited tilling. With deer hunting there’s no break even, it’s all a loss because it’s a hobby or for fun.

For seeds that require little or no soil coverage, can you recommend something to spray on the seeds to protect them from birds and bugs eating them before they have a chance to germinate?
    thanks,
    Trav

I don’t know of anything for that. But I’ve never had a situation where that’s affected me to m. Much.
