I think I came through search (Johnson 4HP, since need to do maintenance on that) and stayed because you tell things clearly and explain why you do them and what you expect to happen. Entertaining and educational. Thanks for making the videos!
People only have to watch once to see you know what you are doing. Most of what I know about these motors I learned from your vids here on RUclips. Thank You
Oh please, where are you when I need you. I have a controller I need you work on for no spark on a Evinrude 140 and now I see why several of the wires that are hanging out go to the tack. Disconnect the black / yellow on the power pack and the motor fired instantly and actually ran quite well despite not running for years. Did I mention how much I despise electrical issues!
I have a 1990 Johnson 50hp outboard motor and we went to change the key housing cause the one that was in the throttle casing went bad well the guy that was fixing it didn't take pictures of how the wires were hooked up and I was wondering if you by chance know what wires go where?

Hey I’m doing a conversion from the regular outboard tiller to a steering console, and I want to put a controller like that in. What electronics would I have to install in the motor to get it to start remotely from the console?
Great Videos. I have an 85 Johnson 70. Controller looks just like this one. The motor starts and runs great with the safety switch disconnected at the controller. Put in a new switch. Ran and started but then died. Disconnected safety switch and runs great. Tested switch and it has continuity when lanyard is off and none when lanyard is on. I'm assuming there is a short somewhere. Maybe post a vid how to test the key switch for shorts? Thanks
Good video. Question I have the same control box and motor when I turn the key, the beep stays on. Do u think u know what’s wrong y the beep stay on? I just bought the motor thx
I need step by step on this rebuild. I have never done this, but been waiting 2 years to have someone rebuild a controller and hook up to my evenrude 88spl. Never been hooked up on this boat I have now.
Brandon i really need a video or tips on the wiring harness on the boat i can tell you just had to replace those motor wires in the engine!! Im about to do it in my 60hp evinrude 82.
Congratulations on the subscriber milestone Brandon! Happy Friday from here at the "ranch", hope you have a good weekend with your family and get to play with some of your toys lol Nice fact-filled video again today, 2 thumbs up from here! Doug@ the "ranch"
Hopefully, weather is right, but the pontoon boat is in pieces. Maybe Ill strap some floats to a lawn chair and go float in the river making outboard noises.
See how those cable and throttle shifter cables are big and metal, do I just splice and cut them and connect them to a new throttle? Because the new BRP throttle will have the shifter already inside right?
So I just got an old boat with a 96 Evinrude 40 horsepower there's no key switch can you show me how to wire up a makeshift switch or at least which wires need to be tied together for the engine to run
None, unplug the wiring, and jump the solenoid. (yellow wire to red wire) to turn it off, you'll have to get creative or plug the 6 pin connector back in
@@BrandonsGarage ok I'll try that. And do u mean unplug the Big red round connector under the hood? I don't have a solenoid on it right now but I can spin it over by touching bat+ to starter wire. So then I need to hook small fused red wire to yellow or just bat+to fused red wire?
@@joshrose9587 oh, I figured it being a 96, you wouldnt have the red connector. Yes, unplug it. if engine starts, to turn it off, plug it back in. Also, if no solenoid, just use the battery cable, no need to make anything up.
Where can I find parts for my 40 hp evinrude 2 stroke on my 1993 bass tracker? I broke the red button on the control (the one that allows it to move forward & reverse ) 😞
i got same motor I THINK with the same controller SAME ONE ON THE VIDEO is a 1989 envirude 48HP SPL engine model IS E48ESLCER I BEEN LOOKING THE POWER TRIM BUTTON TO RAISE AND LOWERED THE MOTOR YOU HAVE ANY VIDEO OR IDEA WHERES THAT BUTTON OR I NEED ANY OTHER CABLE OR CONNECTION???
You can buy a new handle cover and a new switch and install it, but you'll have to do some wiring to connect the two. I have a video called "rigging the aftermarket trim switch" That'll give you an idea of what you need to do. Maybe I can do a video on the subject in the morning...
Hey Brandon I have a 1974 Johnson hydrostatic controll . The one with diodes and a rocker-type shift/mistral saftey switch. That switch costs $300 ! Any way to replace the complete controller? Is there a Specific kinda of controller needed due to those diodes???
I have a 1986 Johnson 140hp connected to an OMC controller, which I believe is the same year. I was working on my fuel gauge and noticed I lost power to my volt gauge and tach. In checking what the problem might be, I found I lost 12v at the ignition switch B pole. Any thoughts?
I just got a 1975 roughneck with a 70 Johnson motor put on a new ignition when I turn the and I’ve it won’t crank up but I can hot start it and it will run and I can turn it off with the key but won’t start from the ignition what can it be
Hey man I don’t think if you will see this but I just got a 1990 Johnson 140 and I had to get a new ignition and I don’t remember how it goes back I need help!!!!
Hi can you help me please. We took the boat out to the water and while the motor was running the control box started to beep constantly. Do you know what is wrong?
I lost my key for this controller and my question is if I can only replace the key switch. Is this possible? And if yes where can I find a new key switch?
I have a 1989 Johnson 30. When I turn the key to the start position, the horn goes off but when I turn the key further to start the motor my starter doesn’t rotate. I have jumped the starter so my starter does work and I have replaced my starter relay but it still doesn’t want to rotate my starter. Any ideas?
I appreciate your videos. Learned a lot by watching. I have "rebuilt" my 1984 OMC control unit as a result. Where can I source a tachometer harness for these controllers?
I have an 89 evinrude 50hp VRO while opening the control box the ignition switch touched the metal case and arched out, (I assume blowing a fuse). Now I have no power to the ignition switch. I can not locate an inline fuse anywhere. Repair sites have stated by the starter. I can’t find one. It will crank when jumping across the relay. Where should I start my trouble shooting?
its along the engine harness, in a small round red rubber cylinder. you'll have to pull apart. Its probably black from age. Unless you have an aftermarket harness, then its yellow or a square black box.
@@BrandonsGarage I’m looking for a fuel filter assembly for my 1987 110 Johnson out board that has the 398384 filter Any idea where I could find one or a different replacement one?

fuse on the outboard blow?
Great video. Any idea what the knob below the key switch is for?
It adjusts the friction of the handle. If you want it firm to move, or a little loose.

N safety switch, igniting, wiring, bad terminal in red plug, or solenoid.
If you are jumping the solenoid and it works, you can rule that out.

The fast forward thing is not spelling! You can not show something in continuous fast forward!
