  • In this video we show you some amazing footage of Kingfish feeding on our baits we were trolling behind the boat! It was crazy how these fish stalked their prey before attacking. It was also cool to see how many more Kingfish were down below than we realized. This video helps us to see why live bait chumming helps you catch more fish and how the fish hit your baits!

    Other Kingfish Gear:
For most baits I use 40lb camo wire that is NON-COATED. amzn.to/2S7dYUD
    Spro Power Swivel-Pack of 50 (Black, Size 6) amzn.to/2Gf4Nuc
Sea Anchor Drift Sock (we use two and shut off 1 motor to go slow enough for the live bait) amzn.to/2zkYLUl
Below are some links to the hooks I like. I typically use a #6 treble hook when fishing with pogeys (menhaden) or ribbonfish. If I am using Blue Runners or Goggle Eyes in a tournament I might go up to a #4 hook though.

    amzn.to/2G5gHYn
Most reels I use are TLD 20's. These are great all around reels though for Kingfish a reel with a faster retrieve is more ideal, like a torque, fathom, or speed master.

I'm with you, I always thought they acted like an assassin and just crash a bait out of nowhere. It definitely is possible they acted like that because of the camera or the clip, but it made me think that we will occasionally see a bait acting erratic for several minutes before a strike. Wonder if that's why or if I'm just making things up in my head, but I'll definitely be taking note of that on future fishing trips. I've always been told that Spanish Mackerel are very leader shy, but kings are generally not. Definitely makes me think twice. Great video and very useful information for fellow fishermen!

Thanks! Yeah I used to see baits get real nervous and I think it’s cause the bait was stalking it. The camera could have affected them but I tend to think it doesn’t. I have fished with down rigger balls close to baits for years and have still been successful with it.

@@ReelHazardous Noreaster has made it hard to fish the beach but have been doing well inshore. Caught a good tarpon yesterday! Probably over a hundred pounds! Fought him for almost an hour! How about you? Still tearing up the kings?

No unfortunately. We went last Saturday but nothing. Too windy this weekend to try but hopefully we'll get some good reports soon.

Come sight fish for kings off the gulf coast piers if you want to learn how they eat

Do you see them often? Which pier do you fish off of?

@@ReelHazardous people have been sight fishing kings on our piers from Panama city through Pensacola longer than both our ages combined. We snobble, free drift, fresh dead cigar minnows and get to watch them eat or give it a twitch or hop to fire them up. Watching them fly by eat the back half spin around and clobber the other half after a twitch. Or having one sky on your bait while you're jacking it up in the air. Tail walking schoolies back to the pier with 9ft king rods.

Alot of sharks in the keys. Better to speed troll sometimes cuz if ur fishing stationary that brings more sharks. Stationary use goggles

I'm not sure but they are definitely one of the faster fish in the ocean!

I think the weather may be starting to push them back down south.

Use the thinest wire. They see it less

What size do you like to use? I'm using 40lb seven strand.

@@ReelHazardous the thicker they see it more but the thin one they see it less do u have to work it more. More strikes on the thinner but u have to change it every 2 fish or if its big change it every fish u catch. I use the thin one in Miami but there are some many king's in Tortuga use thicker. Good luck 👍👍👍.

@@ReelHazardous Also depends if the water is dirty or clear.

@@ReelHazardous I use 14 strand 26lb wire. Landed 18 to 20 kg kings without fail from kayak. For bait we use live orange spotted trevallies or yellow tail scad. Also use 20lb mono as your main line. Make it as minimalist as possible. No joints or swivels etc. Mono to rig straight. I like to keep the spread on different depth. One free swimming top water and two with weight. One down close to bottom and one mid water.
