Pilgrim;I have been waiting for ever for you to give us this. Robert Cray - guitarists guitarist and amazing vocalist (as are you)- and this fabulous arrangement. If it sounds like fan mail.. it is. Today is the best day.
Oh how beautifully you play this groovy masterpiece, your Strat has the perfect tone for it. I can also imagine you playing Sultans of Swing. People would think you were Mark Knoffler from afar... 👌🤌🤘👏❤
Awesome. I was learning this song a couple of days before this video came out and this really helped me improve my playing. Thank you very much for sharing.
Most amazing players are not particularly good teachers. Most fantastic teachers might not be very inspiring players... you got it all man!!! My favorite guitar teacher!!!
Great song to highlight both picking and fretting hand dynamics. Also a great choice to highlight a song with rhythm and lead/solo......not different from Hendrix's strongest attributes. Also, great job of showing the "flavor" of variations, noting that tension in the right hand will restrict he picking/strumming feel. Great video!!
Now that was awesome Thom! Obviously, very complex and difficult to play. I know that you don't do much with Jazz guitar. However, you should look up Joe Pass and watch a few of his videos. One of my all time favorite guitarist! No one played like Joe! Hope that you & your family are doing well! 👍👍🎸🎸
I’m interested in how you hold your pick? I’m experimenting with different ways of holding it atm. Do you hold it differently depending on the technique? I think I can see you get quite a lot of motion from your thumb whilst strumming with a pick. Great video, thanks!
1:34, the first chord. what is that? I can't really see which fingers are down and which are floating? I wish he used an overlay like Scott Paul Johnson
I don't play percussion on the guitar. I don't mind hearing other people do it, like Michael Hedges doing finger tapping, and percussion. Or like this where people tap the beat muffled. But it doesn't interest me to do, I would just leave that part out. Or what I do is intricate it into finger picking. I can play like a metronome without that guidance.
Well I guess after 50 years playing guitar in band's and writing and recording songs I can't play guitar. Cause I never played that so I guess I should give it up.
Your choice of songs is always great. I know the song already but it sounds better more groovy when you play it. Congrats. I am a happy Patreon supporter.
Really nice playing there. Robert Cray was the first strat player I noticed using the 4 position on the pickups. Knew a few that were using the 2 position. So great job even including that little detail.
That's exactly the type of guitar playing I enjoy most! Have been trying to incorporate it into playing with the band but this doesn't always work good. This task was accomplished successfully by legends like Hendrix or John Mayer Trio - the kind of arrangement where it works is really rare and requires a lot of skill
Hi Thom how are you Please man I'm begging you i have questions about you I wanna know your hands size length from line that separate your wrist from hand to top of middle finger in (cm) and if you can sent me pictures while measuring it or tell me i would really appreciate it please man I'm keeping asking this question for years I really love your channel and your guitar playing I'm a guitarists as well and that would really help me thank you 🌹✌️❤️
Can you play THIS riff? Anyway you could do the James Burton lead electric guitar intro, solo and fills from the Judy Collins version of Someday Soon as found on the studio album Who Knows Where the Time Goes? NOT the Buddy Emmons Steel parts ... a LOT of vids out there on that ... but NOBODY on YT has ever done the James Burton stuff. That is a shame because this tune REALLY helped to get Country Rock rolling back in the day.
My personal opinion has ALWAYS been that Robert Cray is the most underappreciated guitar player of the last 25 years
More like thirty to forty, I remember listening to him in the eighties and nobody knew who he was
I didn't know Justin trudeau played guitar. Well done!
I thought the same thing!

Thanks for doing this song, soulful and funky. I remember when this album came out and I was just starting to learn guitar. Thx
My favorite song from Robert Cray. Thanks! Time makes two is also a great but rather hard piece:)
His solo on I was warned is so good!
Awesome Thom! Looks very difficult, but it’s actually quite difficult. This guy always gets the thumbs up before the video starts.
😂
The song is actually called "Right Next Door (Because Of Me)." Thank you for another great, detailed lesson!
Robert Cray and his band are awesome! I saw them live in Oosterpoort Groningen last year. I was blown away with how they play together.
Hey I was there too, Loved the show
So true if one can groove with love n fun one can play
Every time you show a song, it gives me apetite to play it.
Brilliant song, great playing. Some more Robert Cray would be highly appreciated😊
Never heard this song before!! Great playing! You gained a new subscriber 👍👍
Great playing and great technique of stowing/retrieving that pick!

Awesome. I was learning this song a couple of days before this video came out and this really helped me improve my playing. Thank you very much for sharing.
You’re fucking amazing, mate!!
😱. Haven't heard that in FOREVER! Almost forgot about him. Thanks
Most amazing players are not particularly good teachers. Most fantastic teachers might not be very inspiring players... you got it all man!!! My favorite guitar teacher!!!
Fantastic lesson about a great song. Love your gritty tone as well!

Tk you! It´s amazing the way you decode music. Very unique. Congratulations!

I couldn’t agree more. Helemaal met je eens. Prachtig nummer en prachtig gespeeld en uitgelegd.
Great interpretation, great playing, great lesson, funky groove, you got it man 👍
Zo'n geweldig nummer! Gaaf dat je het kent en ons leert!
I like the way you play the beat specially sound of Fender a glassy i like the version best groove congrats.
Another great choice as always, how about Strong Persuader next?
Keep up the fantastic playing!
If you think about it, the title of this video can apply to literally anything he could have played and it would be true.
It's very, very good. I love it. Good work, man.
I'll have fun with this one! great video as always :)
Thank you very much. Wonderfull feel to it. Personally, I find it much easier to use my thumb (root) playing that cm11 bass part.
Great tunes as usual sir
so good...thanks for posting
john mayer has done a different level of mastery in such rhtymic level playing.... watch his live versions of vultures !
Super 👌
Nice and smooth.
I will learn this song and become a grandmaster at bullshido when I'm done.
Qué bueno!!! Than good! Congratulations!!!
Superb. Thanks GP.
Funky, groovy yeah! Herrlich!👍🎸🎶👏
Bewundernswert, wie locker flockig Sie Ihren 6- Saiter im Griff haben!👏🌅
always helpful ❤
Now we're talkin' !
I can indeed play that!....hurrah for me...I've passed!!😀
Formidable !!!!
Love a bit of Robert Cray...
amazing! sounded a bit like little wing
Hey clean that fretboard haha
I try this later

Is that a John Mayer strat with big dippers?
Do you still play with the same rig as 4 years ago? Or do we need an update? 😃 awesome playing
Guitar rig 6
@@GuitarPilgrimwow! Do you also have a “real” amp or mostly playing via PC? De groeten van mede Hollander :)
😮🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
1:34, the first chord. what is that? I can't really see which fingers are down and which are floating? I wish he used an overlay like Scott Paul Johnson
Can you do a vid on paul kossoff.
You sing well, start a band!
Challenge accepted 😎
Oh dear, it seems like I can't play guitar.🤣😂. I'll just keep noodling. Keep up the great work love your channel.
aint got long enough fingers for that, guess I can't play guitar then
Cm11 kicking my ass. Middle finger keeps muting A :(
But, if you don't want to play this and prefer to play something else really well, then you also can play guitar.
10:18
I could tell I can't play it even by the thumbnail 🤣🤣

I can play like a metronome without that guidance.
I didn't watch the video Pilgrim, but the song better be "Stairway to Heaven" :)
If you cant play that, you can still play guitar too. Lol it's a great exercise for beginners.
My guitar doesn't actually do that.
Yeah…no I can barely make a chord
disagree - if you can play that, you cannot play guitar.
Well I guess after 50 years playing guitar in band's and writing and recording songs I can't play guitar.
Cause I never played that so I guess I should give it up.
🤡
Says you.
Yeah no.
Cool, except the title that is pure meaningless BS.
This is some of your best work, sir. Amazing. Love it. Ashamed to say I had never heard this song
Your choice of songs is always great. I know the song already but it sounds better more groovy when you play it. Congrats. I am a happy Patreon supporter.
👍 what he said 👍
Mr. Cray is a great craftsman. Strong rhythm, sing-a-long solos and efortless R&B singing voice.
Great breakdown on the song as usual! Inspirational and informative! Thank you! 👏👏👏
One of his best albums 👍the last time I get burned is a beauty ❤️
Good pick Guitar Pilgrim; I'm going to learn this song, for I love Robert Cray songs, and Robert Cray is a good blues singer.
Really nice playing there. Robert Cray was the first strat player I noticed using the 4 position on the pickups. Knew a few that were using the 2 position. So great job even including that little detail.

Espectacular vídeo . Tono maravilloso de strato

Seems a bit creepy TBF 😮
Just make an educated guess and leave it at that. What difference could it make to know an exact measurement ?
Thank you for pointing out that Cmin11 chord at the beginning, it's got a nice dissonant ring to it, funky.
Yesssss! Those 11ths are to die for. Thanks for the lovely reminder ❤
Gracias por el video, mi hermano.
This was an absolute pleasure to learn and I love your style of interpreting it and teaching it
If you can play guitar, then you can play guitar.
I thought it was called strong pursuader
Any chance you can add in the gpx file, Thom? Ta
I definitely cannot play guitar.

You are too eco friendly ❤😂
fabulous surprise to open my machine to see you today, FANTASTIC lesson , thank you!
He’s a god amongst men.
Very tasty. Sub'd
That's awesome! Not a super hard set of riffs, but VERY effective!
i have the same strat . Your the best you know how great ABBA is . Are those th stock PUs?
I was expecting some math rock polyphia type riff, was surprised to see/hear a simple Mayer-type line
amazing video
