    Thank you for your videos! I’m going to a meet and greet soon to meet some greyhounds up for adoption. Your videos are very knowledgeable and help me prepare for making the transition for the greyhound to home life as comfortable and easy as possible!

    We have adopted a greyhound 10 days ago and the first car ride was not easy. He didn't want to get in the car and I had to lift him up. Since then, we are trying to show him that the car is a safe place by throwing treats in and around the car so he get used to be around our car. As of yesterday, he put his two paws by himself inside the car to get the treats for the first time. I can see that he is still not fully motivated to get in the car completely. We are trying not to rush him which may backfire. I hope he will get over with his fear soon so that we can drive to the next fenced area to let him loose for his full speed sprint :)

      Sounds like his doing very well. They don't always have experience of travelling in a car before they are retired.

      For dogs that enjoy it, travelling in the car can be fun in itself! Most of mine love to go for a drive even if nothing exciting is happening when we arrive

    Thank you for this video which makes so much sense. Our new girl is hating the car with full-on stress panting and whining. She is reluctant to get into the car, we are working with treats to entice her in and waiting for her to lay down, treating then moving off. Sometimes she remains down, pants a little but usually stands up, turns a lot and heavy panting. Is there anything else we should be doing?

      Hi Wendy, it sounds as if she is really struggling, poor thing. For a case like that you would need to try and unpick the cause and gradually desensitise her to travel in the car. If that is something you would like help with please contact me via my website Www.jillwoodmancaninecare.co.uk

    Thanks for the vid. I've been trying to get mine into the backseat, but without much luck (he's very large and my car is quite small). Even if I manage to get him standing back there he doesn't want to sit down because he's got no room to turn. Any advice?

    • @jwcaninecare
      @jwcaninecare  3 года назад +1

      I wonder, does he lay down without turning circles at other times? If not, it may be uncomfortable for him to do. Could you put the seats down to make more space for him?

    I have a rescue greyhound for just four weeks now and he's really struggling with the car. I've been doing small practice runs, sometimes just sitting in the car with the engine on but he drools every time and gets sick if driving for more than ten mins. I'll keep at it but it's hard work. Any tips /advice welcome.

    Hi we have an adopted greyhound, ex retired racer, he can get in the car, but when we come home, a new habit has developed.
    He refuses to get ou tof the car.
    He will stay in the car all night and into the next day.
    He refuses treats and growls if we try to get him out.
    He has recently been checked by a vet and is fine.
    Any suggestions are more than welcome.
    Its now got to the stage that weve stop taking him for rides because he wont get out of the car when we get back home.
    Help .
    Thanks.

      I'm sorry to hear you are having problems. Is he maybe uncomfortable when he gets out? it could be aggravating an injury or maybe he doesn't like the surface he lands on?

    • @nickl2548
      @nickl2548 6 месяцев назад

      @@jwcaninecare Unfortunately, he can get out other times no problem, but just refuses, being plain stubborn.
      It's only when we come home.
      When we take him to a place of interest such as walk to the beach, no problem.
      Just at the time we come home.

    All the greys I adopted ( from Ireland) used to simple l o v e jumping on the car. Needless to say that I drive big cars just to make them more comfortable, while travelling!

      I have met some who happily jump in, others who don't understand at all. Big cars certainly help!

    I've had my grey (Larry) for almost a year and we struggle on long car trips because he gets so stimulated when he sees open paddocks and farm animals. He will bark like crazy. I think it must be his prey drive. But once he starts he cannot stop. We have had some very long and distressing trips together. Im at the point now where he travels in a fully blacked out crate (which is huge as he is 38kg), but even then he tries to look through the cracks and can still have this huge reaction. Any advice?? PS he loves getting in the car! Just does not travel well.

    • @jwcaninecare
      @jwcaninecare  2 года назад

      I'm sorry to hear you're having problems. Stopping him from seeing out is probably your best option until you are in a position to do some training with him. its unlikely he is used to being able to travel with a view. his reaction to seeing farm animals could be prey drive, or it could be a fear aggression, which could look very similar. either way he needs help to feel calmer about the whole situation!

    • @DrKarinaSmith
      @DrKarinaSmith 2 года назад

      @@jwcaninecare thank you! yes I think it is actually fear aggression! He has been like that the first time he saw chickens, or sheep as well. He does calm down, but I suppose being in a moving vehicle with fast flashes of objects is just a lot for his sweet little brain to comprehend. We will just keep working on it x
