I'm really tempted to pick up the King Kong with Pteranodon and Pit Monster, especially after watching this video. I really like both head sculpts, especially the one with the angry facial expression and gashes. King Kong is nicely sculpted, painted and detailed. I appreciate the fact that NECA included Pteranodon and the Pit Monster. Overall, this is a solid looking figure. Otherwise, thanks as always Spot for another great video. Interesting fact for you, Spot. Original NECA King Kong release and later Skull Island and NYC version are actually based off of two different models of Kong in the original 1933 movie. The first release sculpt is based on “Long face” puppet, which is a prototype model that was made. It can be seen in various ad for the movie and, specifically, in famous log sequence and T.rex battle. While 2nd and 3d NECA default head sculpt based on “Round face” puppet, it is essentially featured in most of the Kong sequences and especially can be visible on the Empire-State. Another interesting fact - historian Bob Burns and director Peter Jackson both own Round and Long faces original armatures, there are even RUclips videos about them.
Dang. I bought the first Kong but like this one much better. The first head looks so much like the 1933 Movie Kong. They really nailed it. It looks just like the ‘life size’ prop version they made for close ups like when he eats the Skull Island native.
