      Loll, I think it really comes down to the hours put in to learning. It doesn't matter though I found it's best to compare your own progress month after month because everyone (and everyone's game) is different. I've been using Unity for like 8 months now and I put in about 1,000 hours so far. The scary part is there is still so much more to learn. Good luck!

      Agreed. Most people don't think about the "behind the scenes" but it is a lot of work and time management to get everything done. But if it's fun it really doesn't feel like work. Also, it's a great feeling of accomplishment when you fix that one bug which has been driving you crazy for days!

    I also started learning unity half a year ago.. my games don't look this good yet
    Also a tip: make micro-games with 1 core mechanic to learn the engine, then eventually recycle all the assets for a newer, bigger project. Rinse and repeat.

    • @indieprogress7170
      @indieprogress7170 5 лет назад +11

      That's definitely a great tip. Even when models are created in AAA games they just redo the textures/skins and it looks like a whole different model. I wrote this in a comment above but You may think your Unity skills are not good, but if you compare your progress month after month or will really start to see the results. Compare yourself to your past self rather than to others or you will often get discouraged.

I normally think up something cool like a 'Ccalable, physics based conveyor belt that automatically adjusts the angle/model for whatever purpose you need with a full wrapping/animated material'. And then I do it, say 'that was nice but now what do I do with it. And then I move on haha.

    This is really similar to how I started with unity!! I was always interested in game dev and programming but never really dabbled in them until I one day downloaded unity and started just googling how to do stuff all day long building little projects and improving all the way. After half a year of doing my own projects I wanted to learn more complex and advanced stuff so I applied to a vocational college game programming/dev class and got in since I knew some basics already and I graduated just a month ago.
