This is too cute. You have no idea how happy it was for me to finally have the strength to watch something like this. I recently lost my green cheeked conure, Aloha, and thought that I'd probably never want to get one again because of the bitter end but this video is making me think otherwise. Love this video and thank you.
the stories of these animals always remind of those kids movies from the 80's where the main character is abandoned and goes trough all this horrible stuff, only to find a great place to live in the end
Jessi I'm so happy that there are people like you and your hubby who can take in these critters. I've always wanted to but know I can't. Thanks for all you guys do.
God bless you for helping these poor sweet little ones. I have a cockatiel and a dusky headed conure, and I love them both dearly and spend a LOT of time with them. It pains me to hear how many of these potentially loving and wonderful little creatures are neglected or abused. I can't imagine life without my two selflessly loving little boys.
Jessi, thank you for your compassion for this poor bird. Your joy and happiness when discussing Ginger is absolutely amazing. God bless you and everyone else at AnimalWonders and I wish you continued success in your work.
I have the BIGGEST smile on my face and teary eyes after watching this. What a warm and wonderful ending for this little girl! Thank you for all the care, love, and thoughtfulness you exhibit for all the animals under your care.
I love that you are so passionate about animals and that you are always so excited in your videos. Thank you for increasing my love for animals and helping me gain more knowledge about them. Again, thank you!
Omg Ginger is so cute as well as Maui. You are amazing human beings and I am so thankful that people like you exist to save these little babies when they have no hope.
I'm so glad sweet little Maui eventually got through to poor Ginger! Sometimes our pets need their own therapy animals to recover from trauma just like people, and it's wonderful to see them want to take care of each other. Thank you for sharing!
Quite a while ago, i volunteered at a local humane society and got to work with a conure (i am not sure the exact soecies.) He was very selective about who he would let near him or take him out of his enclosure. All it took was a few seconds and he was climbing to my shoulder! I couldn't give him a home with me, but i got to see and experience all of his spunk and pizzaz before he found his new family! It makes you feel good when such sweet friends finally find the best homes.
Goddamn, the day i stop smoking, I'm going to start a plan to rescue a parrot like bird. They are such darling birds, are so poorly treated and deserve so much better
Thank you for never giving up. We have a small avian sanctuary here, with over 20 birds of all sizes and species. All of the birds here, but one, have come to us from rescues or the Humane Society. We take the birds, like you, that have been returned again and again after a family no longer wants them and the bird has lost its' way. So much patience is needed. We are looking for a perfect friend for one of little GCC, and like Ginger, she chases away everybody. Maybe someday. Like you, we also keep trying. Thanks, again
It's good to hear how much Ginger has improved! When I first got my green cheek conure from her previous owner, she was also on an all-seed diet (one of those awful 'parrot mixes' full of peanuts and sunflower seeds'), and all her perches were dowels and were all the same size. While her feet aren't malformed and she has all her toenails,, she had a noticeable wobble whenever she tried to sleep on a perch (she sleeps in a happy hut at night). The wobble has decreased considerably since I switched her perches (all natural perches from non-toxic trees - no more dowels!), changed her diet (a mix of cooked whole grains, veggies, and fruit that I prepare myself), and started flight training, but she still prefers sleeping in her happy hut or having something (or someone) to lean against. She climbs around, but doesn't do as much hanging upside down as other conures, and she can be kind of a klutz. XD Otherwise, she's very happy, healthy, and playful, and quite a troublemaker, haha! Her feathers grew in beautifully during her last moult, and she often demands spontaneous flight and trick training sessions. I'm planning to get another green cheek to keep her company at some point. I just want to put it out there that anyone who says green cheek conures are easy or good for beginners is either lying or has a truly exceptional bird. While our relationship is unlike any I've had with any other animal, my conure is demanding and sets extremely strict boundaries. If you want the amazing relationship, you have to be prepared to put in the work! :)
@@dromeda6066 Yes! My Pineapple GCC is now a lot quieter but for the first few MONTHS, we thought we were going to lose our minds from the screaming. It took a long time of not give any attention, not even eye contact. When he was quiet, I would shower him with attention and a healthy treat. They might be the quietest of the conures, but they aren't quiet lol
What a sad but eventually happy story. Unfortunately, so many people don't do their proper research to know what is involved with having a parrot companion for the bird's lifespan. Then the bird is re-homed multiple times through no fault of their own. And I have heard so many unfortunate stories about unsupervised parrots biting off each other's toes, cats and/or dogs attacking the parrot. I can't even imagine the emotional & social trauma that this causes for an intelligent animal said to have the understanding of a toddler. Not to equate children to a parrot, but I couldn't imagine adopting a 2yr old child, then returning them to the adoption agency 6 months later because I didn't really know about the time commitment or because they cried too much & too loudly. I'm so happy for Ginger now that she has a human & parrot friend that she can trust.
We have a GC Conure that was given to us by the 1st owner. She bonded with me very quickly. The great thing is she also bonded with my wife. Depending on whether a person is a "bird person" or not, she gets along well with others as well. She is still nippy at times, but that's part of the GC territory. Enjoy your videos. Thanks for introducing Ginger.
Ginger is one lucky girl to have a home with you and the other awesome animals at the santuary! she is so adorable! I have been following a parrot rescue on Facebook that is in WA and one of their new residents is a 10 month old Congo African Grey boy that had both his feet chewed off by the parent birds, due to over stressed/crowded breeding conditions in a breeder-hoarder situation. the breeder was going to put him down, but a good Samaritan neighbor took him to the rescue instead :( so young to have such a horrible thing befall him, but he is adjusting well to life with no feet, and scoots around, and gets lots of snuggles. he sleeps in a pack n' play crib because he can't perch in a cage. special needs animals are the best, so much love to give to those willing to understand them
I love stories about birds, but especially ones who have special needs. I'm a human with special needs (CFS/ME and OCD) and I helped a citron cockatoo I used to bird-sit trust humans and pluck less, so now I dream of the day I can adopt my own parrot and help them recover. Thank you for letting me live vicariously through you for now :)
This is so cute!! I really connected with this cause I have a conure myself (who's turning 7 in a few days) and my best friend has a starling. Thank you so much for rescuing these birds, I can tell you're a wonderful owner! ^^
I have a black capped conure, so basically the clown cousin of the green cheek. He's still a baby, actually hitting six months old tomorrow. Feisty little guy, but wouldn't have it any other way.
