    Fascinating. I feel however that I only understand Hegel at a very basic level, and I'm not really sure why Hegel is so attacked as Slavoj says he is. What exactly did Hegel get wrong which caused philosophy in the last 200 years to be Anti-Hegelian, or for the Not-Yet-Hegelians to feel the need to nonetheless modify Hegel?

    • @MM-bx1ei
      @MM-bx1ei 3 года назад +2

      That's a lot to answer but I'd say the ontological split between Hegel and Spinoza revitalised in 20th century was the biggest factor.

      I know evangelicals hate Hegel because they think he’s a pantheist. I think also right wing Hegelians have made people recoil, the strength of their convictions in the _corporate state._ The “philosopher of fascism” Giovanni Gentile ghost wrote a book with Mussolini justifying the fascist worldview as Hegelian.. “the state is the march of God on earth” etc-even if it is a pure distortion of Hegel’s heart, a fascist fire broke out in history. I love that Zizek and friends have been able to clear the waters.

    I’m curious to know what it was on Kierkegaard that appealed to him specifically, other than knowing he was obviously anti-Hegelian.

    • @kiwicfruit

      I think it's because Kierkegaard's anti-Hegelianism actually fits within Hegel's philosophy so it's quite interesting to see how Kierkegaard's misunderstanding of Hegel came to be in the first place. I think it might be because Kierkegaard attended JWF Schelling's lectures on Hegel, who purposely tried to eliminate Hegelianism in Jena at the time. An example is Kierkegaard's criticism that Hegel's absolute Idea is this monstrous devouring of everything and understanding reality as All, many people even accuse Hegel of having access to God's eye Himself hahaa. But Žižek showed with his radical "Hegel with Lacan" reading that Hegel's absolute Idea is the exact opposite, it is the non-All. The subject acknowledges that the big Other is barred in itself: Reality in itself is non-All. This is also very similar to Kierkegaard's Essential Knowing, so his critique of Hegel is actually very Hegelian. Another reason why Žižek likes Kierkegaard might be due to his respect for Christianity.

      @@kiwicfruit See, that was always my opinion on Hegel as well, but that’s because I had read Kierkegaard before Hegel then went backwards through that interpretation. I think even the theologian Karl Barth seemed to take that as well, even though he really appreciated Hegel’s dialectics. I might be wrong though. Regardless, the concept of “non-All” sounds fascinating, especially in contrast to Heidegger specifically. Thanks for pointing that out.

    All of western philosophy is against Hegel, Zizek, because the subversion of his dialectics by the Young Hegelians, not only served as the model for, but has also initiated, what realistically may become the the destruction of western civilization.
    The commies today have very little understanding of such subjects now. Heck, they can't even bother with political economy, why would they dive into Hegel?
    But that does not change the fact that their accelerationist tactics would not exist if Hegel had not provided the model for change that he did.
    Every post-modern/non-Abrahamic threat to western civilization is owed to the Young Hegelians, like them or not.
    And don't take this as pure condemnation. I'm okay with replacing western civilization. It's just that
    I'll never fall in behind petit bourgeois college students and lumpenproleriat homeless who can't hold a job, so I certainly won't let this generation of "communists" be the one to "smash the state".
