Excellent review. I found the specs on the AF Slim R and it is a very cheapened version! Do a web search for Samsung AF Slim R manual. In the owner's manual the AF Slim R has shutter speeds from 1/64 to 1/300! EV meter range of 12-15! Avoid the R version, get the original as you pointed out. edit - also the R version has only a three element lens and DX settings of 100, 400, 1000. The original has a 4 element lens.
This video came right on time. I recently bought a similar camera from Nikon. Has a 28mm 3.5 with macro focus as well. I received the scans from my first roll just a few days ago and was completely blown away! Super sharp with beautiful colors. The lens performs really well and the metering and autofocus are on point. I’m shooting a few more rolls and then will make a blog post/review as a resource for anyone interested in these type of cameras. (commented before the video finished, as mentioned by a commenter in the live stream it’s the AF600)
I had one and like yourself got it cheap. Gave it away to someone just getting into film. Whish i hadn't now its worth 200. Great little camera. Thanks for the review.
I have the Vito C-AF, but to me it looks like it's just a rebranded AF-Slim R. It has a light in the same spot as the R and doesn't have the motorised lens cover.
Watching it a bit later but I really enjoyed it! I also continue hunting old jewels from my local second hand shop, just recently got a Kyocera Samurai X3 (with a broken visor which I removed, otherwise mint) for just 110¥! Can’t wait to shoot some Ektar 100 with it around downtown Tokyo. Sadly those Samsung’s are nowhere to be seen over here!
Awesome video! I just picked up a white version of the original Samsung AF-Slim that you showcased. It's working really well, and I'll make sure to share the results once I get the film developed. I already finished some Portra 160 in it, and I'll be loading it with Rollei 80s next. Thanks again for the helpful video! Btw, does anyone have the manual for the AF-Slim? The only ones I've found online are the Zoom manuals.
So I just picked up (kid you not!) This camera at a Op shop in Yarraville for $10 as well as Pentax Espoo 838g for $10 also. I thought I was in a dream when I saw the prices. For a $10 gamble it was worth it and they are both working and well!
I just got one of these:) Does anybody know how to rewind the film? Mine is flashing “E” and although I took a full roll ( thought I did anyways) it’s not rewound…
Nice. It rewinds automatically when the roll ends, so the "E" usually means empty. Was the counter going up with each shot you took? and when it reached the last number did you hear an extended winding noise? It could be some error, so if you need to force the rewind, there's a weird button press combination that manually rewinds it... but I can't remember what it is, sorry! I remember googling around some time back until I found it (it took a few tries but eventually worked).
@@pushingfilm Thanks for your advice! A friend of mine wound up taking it into a darkroom and pulling the film out. But yeah the counter was going up and I'm not sure what happened. I just shot another roll and it rewound automatically at the end of the roll. I wound up buying a manual for this camera. You can rewind it at any point in the roll by going to the film rewind mode and then holding down the mode and shutter button together. ;)
I just checked the manual. Push the Mode button 9x to where the film icon is blinking. Then push the Mode button and Shutter button at the same time to have the camera rewind the film. You can do this at any point in the roll. If the screen flashes "E", that indicates a misload of the film.
Same camera as the AF-Slim! I have owned both, along with their manuals, and they have identical specifications. I have since sold my AF-Slim and have two AF-Mini
anyone have any clue about the difference between the AF Slim and the AF Slim Zoom? I just happened to buy the zoom as im getting into film photography and this little camera caught my eye for $60. Currently looking at its performance online and Pushing Films pictures look absolutely mint. Just wondering if theres any kind of downgrade
@@doozledumbler5393 I can't speak from experience, so I think 35mmc might have reviews for both and maybe some comparative opinions. I have also heard that they aren't as good as the AF-Slim... but I'm sure there can't really be that big of a difference, and the Konicas would still be solid performers.
This camera was made by Samsung. It is not a rebranded version of Konica. The other cameras that are the same as the original Samsung AF-Slim are the Samsung AF-Mini and Rollei Prego AF. You can find all of this information from Popular Photography from 1991.

Good to hear! Yeah that Nikon looks like a gem too, there are many point and shoots out there which aren't as popular, but produce great results.
Partly thanks to your excellent video, i just bought one AF Slim :) Can't wait to use it......
Nice!

I've had this camera since at least 2014 and till this day I can't find a manual 😭
@@nitecrwlrz I have the manual. What can I help you with?

Excellent! That's the way it should be with op shops :-)
I would get one just for those sound effects but it's the Olympus Mju2 Zoom for meeee...
I just picked one up, I was surprised to having found one. It looks promising =)
Awesome!
The Konica A4 performs very very well, these cameras are very similar
From Popular Photography magazine, Samsung took inspiration from the Konica A4 and made their own version with higher specs & features.

I have the Rollei Prego AF, looks (and sounds) identical to the Samsung slim with the same amazing results!
Nice, yeah it seems just as uncommon too!
The flash renders nice and creates sharp, contrasty and in focus pictures. Less impressive otherwise in lower light situations.
Yeah I would agree there
Does anyone know how the AF-Mini (the one with the ridges on the left side) differ from the normal AF-Slim?
Same camera as the AF-Slim! I have owned both, along with their manuals, and they have identical specifications. I have since sold my AF-Slim and have two AF-Mini

Yeah-one zooms and one doesn’t. Non zoom is always more desirable
hmm, do you think it's as sharp as the Contax TVS? Looks like it.
TVS is not very sharp to begin with, easy for a fixed focal length to be sharper than a zoom
Hey, I find it sharper than my copy of the TVS
Do you think any of the Big Minis would be as good? I’ve seen a few reviews for them but none say the lens is particularly breathtaking.

Found a samsung af slim r. Is this the same camera ?
It's a little different!
Did you watch the video? He answers this question
The "R" version is not the same. It has less lens elements, slower top shutter speed at 1/250, and has a smaller range for DX coded films.
This exact camera was rebranded brought out by Samsung, olympus, minolta, leica, Konica, Rollei, Nikon and some other brands I think
Hey James, thanks so much mate! Hope you've been well
Do you know the names used for these versions? I know the Rollei Prego AF but that's all
@@athmaid pfff ehmm Olympus af mini, Konica big mini, leica mini something.. A lot of em have mini in the name but not all.
